There was no problem with stickies on the comping board and unlike most other parts of the forum many of the "stickies" were in constant use - as I posted in a thread on the comping sectionThe dynamics of the comping board are completely different to most other sections of the forum and applying a solution in here where a problem did not exist appears at best unproductive.
In feedback a while ago there were complaints about the number of stickies on one of the boards which meant there were only a couple of new posts visible on the first page and posts by people looking for advice were quickly lost from view.
I think most of the stickied ones there were locked or rarely had posts added to them so putting them in one thread made some sense instead of just cutting the number of stickies.
The way the comping board is used there doesn't appear to be any reason to do it* especially for the regulars section where (I assume) people probably want the daily/weekly etc stickies easily visible as they have much more use than any of the non stickied threads in there.
I cannot see any advantage to it on the main comp board either unless there are people who comp by never looking past page one but it does make it even more likely than it already is that new users will fail to read comping guide etc.
In the IWIWIW section all but one stickie has been cast adrift.
On the plus side I suppose there will now be almost no limit to the number of stickied threads allowed although they will just be lost from open view in the one post.
(*apart from there probably being orders to do it)0 -
I'm all for looking at the stickies and unsticking the ones that are no longer required; but this makes no sense.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

The Ormus thread in the arms and the Squeaky book in oldstyle. These are/were posters held in highest regard, it feels like the new owners don't respect that!
I agree. Ormus' Son very kindly comes back with an update for us from time to time. How's he going to feel when he sees that the thread isn't taking pride of place at the top of the board?
I'm sure many of the posters in The Arms would rather Ormus' thread was left as a stick than the pub thread.0 -

Agree Ash, plus if he has any updates he may have trouble locating the thread.0 -

My first impression was that the 'sticky' posts had been moved to within the new forum 'sticky' but I soon saw that actually they were still there somewhere in the forum, amongst the other threads.
But there still remains the problem that, if you want to access one of the threads from the new sticky, you have to open a new window and start from page one whereas, with the exception of newbies, most of us would want to access the latest posts. Lots of unnecessary clicking and scrolling is then required.
Maybe two links could be provided for each thread: one 'Go to start' and one 'Go to latest post' (or 'latest unread post')?0 -
If Andrea's hint and my guess are right, then when the new forum design is applied these new style sticky threads will be changed into much more than a just a static list of links as they appear now.
If my guess is wrong, I'll be the first to complain.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

It's easy enough to change stickies back later if that seems appropriate after we see the rest of what Andrea and the team have brewing. Maybe we should just take a break and, if necessary, revisit this after we see more of the whole picture?
From past discussions one thing the forum team is really keen on is getting people into the meat of what's new and active in the forums as rapidly as possible, without a need for lots of scrolling. The stickies were a barrier to that so I can see why they would be part of what's being looked at. However, they also answered common questions, so maybe the team has something else coming that might handle that more neatly than stickies... or not, no way for us to know yet.0
