Do you have evidence to show we are the worst country in the world for paying fraudulent claims to 20-34 year olds?

High claim rates in that area do not prove fraud. We may have higher percentage of severely disabled surviving longer due to improved care.

cattermole ... i asked my social worker about rehab a while ago, as ive never been offered any kind of assessment other than my question and answer one for direct payments...
she didnt have a clue what i was talking about and said 'she'd get back to me'
i havent heard a peep from her since last June

I can't say I'm surprised. I used to know someone, who, like you, became blind as an adult. She told me she only got mobility training with a cane because she got run over by a car one day.

why are we the worst country in the world for 20 to 34 year old claiming incapacity or disability benefits,

Read what is written, why does the Uk with the worlds most generous benefit system have the highest number of benefit claimants in this category

    Is it

A Our 20 to 34 year old have a harder life :rotfl:
B Our 20 to 34 year old have more disease and chronic illnesses:eek:
C Our 20 to 34 don't need to work as they can easily claim benefits and let someone else pay for their lifestyle ? :T
    D ...........your answer please

Mine is C, come on answer this question, :money: but read it first before answering and give an answer not a bleating general statement. Shan't hold my breath

my old social worker was fantastic, he was forever phand saying @ ive got this, or ive got that ... would you like it? the camera for the television ... countless different magnifiers, talking clock and watch etc. he was blind and used to work with his PA, \Peta.
he was also in charge of the sensory team and so only dealt with the blind and deaf.
they have re organised now, and instead of being under the care of a soeciality, we are now just grouped by area.
my social worker deals with kids, olf people and people with evey inginable type of disability.
so its almost like me going to the GP and expecting her to be an expert in my condition

I'd say it was more to do with B. Years ago, people with certain medical conditions (cancer, cystic fibrosis, etc) died younger than what they'd do now.

It's all connected to money - or lack of it.

On a side note, I was thinking about another poster yesterday - mysterywoman - after reading some of your posts. Are you one and the same, per chance?
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.

Even though you have asked a bleating, general question, I shall try not to respond in kind...;)

During the 80's, I worked for the DHSS (as it was then) and thousand of people were transferred, for very little reason, off of the unemployment register and put onto sickness benefits, that's a fact! The rocketing unemployment was making it very politically dangerous for Thatcher's government, and this was a way out.

Major continued with this, as did Blair, for a while.

But, times changed, as they do.

Many, during the mid 2000's, thought the system was 'broken', with thousands scamming, so, in 2008 ESA was bought in, complete with independent assessments.

However, despite all the assessments by independent assessors, such as ATOS, although it might mean independent appeal, there are as many people claiming sickness benefits today as there were in 2010.

Which suggest, unless every medical professional is getting it wrong, that those getting sickness benefits, are entitled to them.

Which therefore also suggests that although the system may well have been broken in the 80's, for political expediency, it is, actually, not very broken at all now!

Your problem appears to be that you do not actually understand disability, employment or how it is actually is. You probably also don't understand continuing ill health, it's effects, and there's no reason why you would.

Years ago, many employers had to fill quotas, as to how many disabled people they employed, now the quotas have been stopped, and the majority of employers won't even interview anyone with disabilities.

This government has virtually destroyed Remploy - a major employer for disabled.

The JCP and WP know this, which is why so many are just parked on benefits, and left to get on with it. There are no jobs for even those wanting to work.

As for who's paying for what, well, we all support others (I help support anyone with kids, working or not!), and many people on benefits pay tax, as most benefits are taxable.

Perhaps you should look at the whole thing a little more closely and not take your opinions from papers like the Daily Mail!

I am not clever enough to join in debates but I have wondered why they say the unemployment rate is coming down when this ATOS find so many fit for work.
My partner could not find a job after he was made redundant and after many months recovering from a bad accident I worry about him finding a job at all when he is signed off the sick.
How long before he has one of these ATOS assessments as he has been off sick since last July. Thanks.
