I've been to the chiro today, keep my SI joint moving.
He said there are studies to show that can reduce labour time by 30%. We'll see but it certainly can't hurt to not be locked up. Slightly shorter interval to next visit so I can try and fit two more in before bean's due date
Just the five minute walk to pick up hubbies car from being repaired has tired me out today. But i need to go and collect my mum as public transport is so sketchy between the two towns that she can't guarantee getting here in the morning to go to the growth scan with me. I was ok, just, on my own last time but NOONE else was on their own and it might be nice for her to see bean on the scan since she's not entirely sure if she even had them for my sister and i in the early 80s!0 -
It's weird isn't it - I've had a couple of midwife appointments at the hospital, and because that's the same department as the scans, everyone is there with husband/parent/company and I did feel a bit lonely last time, even though husband was completely unnecessary for the appointment in question!
I can only imagine that a mobile SI joint is quite valuable in labour. I've got another appointment with the midwife, and I'm trying to keep moving about to stop it stiffening up - sitting on the birth ball really helps... and yesterday I felt the urge to go swimming, so might see if I can squeeze that it one evening, but only if I can find a child-free session, if being school holidays...
Meant to say, Arbrighton, your maternity unit sounds really good - ours has 1 birth pool in the midwife lead unit, and 1 in the labour ward, which doesn't sound like anywhere near enough to me (I'm very keen on a water birth, as I find it really comfortable and relaxing).0 -
Arbrighton your maternity unit does sound good, I think ours has 1 maybe 2 at a push. The midwife led unit also has less rooms/beds than the consultant led unit which I find odd.
Thanks for the tip on nighties Penguin. Not really a nightie person, tend to just wear the OH's tshirts to bed but will need something longer/more practical for the hospital.
Started with the hospital bag, hoping we can finish it off this weekend as I would like to just try and take it easy from next week onwards.
Another suffering from back/pubic pain, noticed its started to travel down my thighs a bit. Also gets worse as the day goes on. Restricted certain exercises at the gym which isn't ideal but oh well. Ordered a sitfit type cushion from Amazon, managed to find a 'nearly new' one so it helped with the cost a bit. Hopefully it helps, it was another thing the woman at our NCT recommended if you sit down a lot during the day.
I bet you can't wait to finish Penguin. I finish the first week in May and I am counting down the days now.
Haven't even thought as far as nursing tops etc, will make sure to have a look this weekend.0 -
Hi Ladies
Just wanted to add to the conversation about feeding/nursing tops. I breastfed my last baby until she was 10 months old and I actually didn't like anything with buttons down the front like a shirt as they made me feel really exposed. It is far easier to wear a loose-ish T-Shirt and lift up from the bottom to feed baby, You will find that there is far less of you 'on show' if you feel self conscious because the babies body kind of hides where your top has been pulled up. I just thought it worth mentioning that in my opinion fancy 'feeding' or nursing tops are a waste of money and this is a moneysaving site after all0 -
As far as I understand, my hospital has 2 MLU rooms both with pools and 12 rooms on labour ward with 1 pool. That's just what I've gathered from the website. Got the tour either tonight or next weekend as part of our antenatal course so will find out more then. One of my best friends is a junior doctor working in the delivery suite and she says it's never full so she can't see a problem with my getting the sort of room I want (MLU or failing that pool in labour suite). Fingers crossed. Can't believe it's actually approaching now. 30 weeks feels like another milestone! And I'm now half way through the work contract I won in February. Crazy. Thankfully still absolutely loving it so not at the stage where I'm counting down the days. I can empathise though - back when I was working for the same company for a number of years I used to clockwatch and count down to holidays - I would definitely be counting down the days there!!Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! I'm down to 6 days in work! I have really loved my job for the last couple of years so it's been a strange process winding down to finish- I'm definitely not normally a clock watcher! I'm the only person in my team who does my job, so I've shaped it a lot since I started, so it has felt weird handing over to someone who is newly recruited and doesn't quite understand all the legwork I've done, but we are getting there and I definitely feel less attached now than I did about a month ago.
Lifestarts- thanks for the tips on tops. Tbh my SIL does the same so I'm definitely not buying much until I know what is needed.
April- our nct teacher recommended OH's shirt for in bed after to get skin to skin, but I just tried on some of his old shirts (waiting to go out with rags) and they don't stretch over my bump so that's ruled that out! Might be handy for slobbing in house after when I'm less podgy.
Arbrighton- don't tire yourself too much, it is so easy to overdo it right now. Could you pay for a taxi for your mum?0 -
Got mum, will send husband out for takeaway shortly then get him to rub my calves again, they're incredibly tight after cramps the other night and I'm shuffling.
And I'm sending her back on the bus tomorrow penguin! They work out ok back if I drop her to the next village. Actually good to have the time in the car to chat with her without dad or OH around- we can and really do talk properly, as friends as much as mum and daughter about things and I can also vent. Am very very lucky to have her around
Then, because I am daft, I'm off to the rowing club for the officials' seminar- I have to do it every three years and this is my home club so easier than trying to go elsewhere (could be an hour away, but in the same region) this time next year. WIll also have dinner with fellow officials but only ten min drive home and possibly won't see any of these folk again for 6 months.0 -

Thanks for posting the list snow - it's a really useful reminder for pelvic floor exercises!
Is anyone drinking raspberry leaf tea? I'm wondering whether to give it a go, but comments seem to vary. I've just started noticing some quite low down tightening, below bump, wondering whether it's Braxton Hicks (or constipation pains!), and it made me think about other things that might help.0 -
Firebird I'm contemplating getting some but I've read some very mixed info on it. Some saying start at 32 weeks, whilst others say start at 34 or even 36. So would be good to hear what others thoughts on it are.0
