April- we're quite lucky, I think all the rooms in our MLU have a pool *and* they're hypnobirthing trained.
Seems by luck of postcode, we have a lot of support available.0 -
April- I think we will also be going for a basic BT one. I know the most basic one isn't 2 way, but I'm not sure how important that really is- our house is not very big either! It's mainly for in the evenings as we will put baby to bed a couple of hours before we go up. We did also look at the moto ones, but decided we'd prefer a battery one in case we're not near a plug (like if we were staying at my mum's or on holiday).
In terms of birth, I'd like a water birth as I also find water very soothing and can spend hours in the bath! Our unit has 2 rooms with pools, but I've never heard of anyone not being able to get one and they have said they will move you through if you don't have it and then it becomes available. The tip is to just ask for it from the beginning. On the tour both were empty so I'm hopeful. I'm not adverse to drugs, but obviously want the least intrusive we can get away with and also I want to come home quickly so drugs would likely make that longer. But if they're needed I'll have them all! Really don't want a c-section, but obviously if it's needed it's needed! We're definitely going to try and stay at home as long as possible.
Our NCT class also gave tips for negotiating- so for example she suggested that if they want to use foreceps, ask to have 5 more contractions and move position to see if you can do anything to just progress a bit. She also said that if they say they want to break your waters ask if there is a medical reason- sometimes there is (baby has done a poo), but she said often older midwives just want to do it as that is what they were taught to do.
One of my colleagues is booked for a c-section this morning, so it looks like I'll be top of the work list and this list within the next couple of days. Definitely getting real!
I've just ordered some nighties from asda- I'm not normally a nightie person either, so got a couple of t-shirt style ones (2 for £10) for during labour, a nursing one and a shirt style one that could be used for feeding. Annoyingly I thought I was also ordering some nursing vests, but they went out of stock when I got to the checkout.0 -
Just bought some maternity pads to add to the start of my hospital bag pile. I may actually need to buy a bag too as I don't know if we have anything between day rucksack and two weeks away in size.0

I've spent the weekend on a hen do and it's taken me two days to catch up haha. I can't remember everything i've read so apologies i'm not being rude my brain just can't hold a lot of information now
I think we are mainly down to needing a baby mointor too, we also have looked at the basic BT ones, i'm not to bothered about a movement pad or video as I think it will make me more paranoid. Our house isn't huge so shouldn't be a problem. Would like a two way one though, just incase there is a poonami and I need DH's help :rotfl:
I've started putting my hospital bag together, i've brought some breast pads and just put a handful in incase I need them, they don't take up much room.
I had the midwife again Friday, bump measuring 29 weeks (I'm 28+4 today) and she keeps saying 'baby feels a good size', currently having minor panics i'm going to give birth to a 10lb+
Those that are thinking of breast feeding, have you brought (or thinking of buying) much in the line of feeding/nursing tops? I want to get a couple of night vests as I prefer pj's to nighties, although i've got a couple of hospital as I can see the usefulness during labour and after for checks ect.
Re birthing plan, I'm thinking as little intervention as possible, gas&air, but will be good to get more info when I go to the NCT classes.
For those feeling a bit uneasy with movements, i've actually downloaded the free Kicks Count app, you just tap it when you get a period of movement and i've found it quite helpful after the little scare we had the other week.
Clara - I have my fingers firmly crossed that if you haven't already, baby is on route. My friend was induced not too long ago and although a little long winded up to active labour (for her) it wasn't near as bad as what she expected. At our hospital partners have to go home I think around 10pm unless you are in active labour.
Sorry this was a reallllly long post!Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

Yes - one of my colleagues recommended doing that, so I've bought a few. However, since thinking about it, I realise that I do have a reasonable number of tops that have buttons etc so can be used for breastfeeding relatively easily - worth checking your wardrobe out before spending too much money!0 -
I have realised I have very few tops that are suited to feeding! Have bought a couple of tops from amazon that were super cheap. In terms of nightwear I prefer pjs as well, but am buying some crop top style nursing bras for initial use (as they come in a wide range of sizes) so I think they will then become sleeping bras and I'll just pop any old vest over them (or just sleep in the bra)
I have also read about people who sort of made their own nursing tops by wearing a boob tube style top under a normal top and then they could pull one up/ pull the other down.
I just popped out to lidl at lunch (working from home today) and nearly cried when I got back in the car from back/ hip pain as I think just walking around the shop and standing in a queue aggravated it. Feeling so frustrated. Have got a heat pack on now and am going to have to have a bath in a bit. I'm thinking that by the time my maternity leave comes I'll be barely able to do anything which is really annoying.0 -
You can't have long left at work if you're 34 weeks penguingirl?
I feel you with regard to hip pain (my back has been ok). I'm hypermobile normally and that combined with the even looser ligaments of pregnancy and the bump weight has made my hips feel very unstable. Although I still can't work out whether walking is good or bad for it! It seems to be marginally better the day after my weekly Pilates session and the day after swimming. Not noticeable when at rest.
Current plan if that remains the case is daily Pilates or swimming during maternity leave (too much every evening while working - would never have time to cook!)
I have a feeling I'm being hopelessly optimistic though!Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! Debt free date 04/12/2015.

I finish next Friday snow- and I am so lucky that I've been able to work from home a bit. Would have had to have finished by now/taken some annual leave I think if I'd had to go in each day. I had been struggling to work out whether walking helped or not, but am going with not at the moment. Swimming has been recommended by one of the nct mums, but like you I struggle to find time/energy after work so will try again on mat leave. Hopefully it will get better! At the moment I don't sleep for more than about 90 mins before waking with pain so I'm getting a bit bored of it.0

Oh no, I do feel for you if it's affecting your sleep
Thankfully I'm still sleeping well, fingers crossed this continues...! If not, I suppose it's good practice for parenthood?!Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! Debt free date 04/12/2015.

Ha, yes- it has actually crossed my mind that I would be unlikely to get less sleep than I am at the moment, but who knows!0
