Hi ladies, hope you all had a lovely weekend!
I'm going to need to post and run as I can't get my phone to load previous posts today! I'll try again later though!
So no news from me - still no baby at 10 days over
Got myself a bit upset last night at the realisation that it's more than likely going to be an induction for me, which I really didn't want to have to go through. I've never been in hospital in my life and the prospect of labour itself scares me but having to do that while they send DH home out of visiting is really getting me down.
I'm not uncomfortable at all but getting really fed up of the daily text messages, fb messages and phone calls asking if baby is here, giving advice on how to induce labour (like I haven't tried them all!) and generally feel like I'm just being very irritable, which just isn't normally in my nature.
I know it will all be worth it in the end and lots of woman have to be induced but I somehow feel like my body I failing me but not going on my own0 -
Oh Clara, so sorry to hear that you're feeling that way about it
Any way to avoid social media / turn off phone alerts to avoid all the unhelpful comments?
Re hospital and labour, are you sure birth partner is not allowed to stay during labour? That seems very backwards - round here, they only get sent home once you're on the post-natal ward. I'd be terrified too if DH wasn't there to help!
I know it's easy to say, but any chance of being able to lock yourself away somewhere and try some serious relaxation and breathing exercises to restore some calm?!
I seem to have been missing loads of posts - thread alert gone a bit wobbly recently, so I'm trying to catch up! I should never have said I could sleep through anything, as I then promptly had 2 nights of really poor sleep, plus third trimester symptoms seem to be kicking in now - feeling much more tired, abdominals seem to have given up, so more backache, and just generally want to sit in the garden and snooze! Unfortunately there are still a million things to get ready, so that's not really an option. Still, have started putting the hospital bag together, but am still a bit lost amongst all the 'nursury lists' and have yet to make sense of what I think we actually need vs what people who are intent on selling you things think you need.
I took Mum to the Mamas and Papas expectant parent event yesterday, which was utterly useless - a short talk on baby first aid (choking/CPR) was useful, and we bought one set of cute sleepsuits, but it's flipping expensive!
On the maternity clothing front, I'm also struggling with jeans - ended up with quite a baggy pair of Gap ones which are too big, but require new elastic, everything else has been too short/too small or just wrong! Frustrating. Luckily I found some combats which are fine, just need turning up an inch, so I may just resort to those. In fact, Gap have proven to be pretty good - I bought some normal size 16 crops that are the most comfortable thing at the moment.
Edit: Sorry, bit of an epic there - clearly I needed to get all that out!0 -
I really feel for you Clara. I went ten days over with Isla and it was awful. I was due for an induction the day after I gave birth. I ended up turning my phone off and disabling Facebook because I was so fed up with people asking if baby had arrived yet - like you would have a baby and not tell anyone!
As far as I know you can refuse induction, I think you just have to go for very regular scans etc to check everything is as it should be.
Forgive me for adding another bit of advice on how to induce labour but I hadn't heard of this one. Have you tried Clary sage oil? It was suggested to me by the midwives and definitely helped start things off.
I really hope something happens for you today.0 -
I'm really sorry it's all quiet Clara- really hope that baby appears soon and you don't need to be induced. I think your hospital anxiety is completely understandable, and it must be worse having been building up over the last couple of weeks and more medical talk. Have they said a date for induction? In my area it is 11 days, but I think that is on the early side compared to others.
In my local unit partners are completely unrestricted once you are in the delivery rooms, but unfortunately the sitting around bit after being induced and the post natal wards are restricted unless in the most expensive private room (which one of the NCT girls used and really recommended as she also felt very strongly she wanted OH there). OH feels a bit miffed that my unit has no male toilets at all! All delivery rooms are ensuite so they can use those, but when visiting they have to leave the ward (unless in private ensuite room).0 -
Thanks for the replies
My understanding is that once they get you started partners are only allowed to stay 10am-10pm as you are on an assessment unit. So potentially I could be in early labour during the night and he won't be there. Once you are moved to a labour suit he will be allowed to stay as I would be in established labour. Then when moved to ward, visiting restrictions apply. I have never heard anyone talking about private rooms at our hospital so not sure that is a thing here. As I said though, this is just my understanding.
Penguin We are 12 days over here for induction and have already been given an appointment for Wednesday afternoon by the midwife at my appointment last week.
I'll have a look into the sage oil stinks but not sure I'd be able to pick this up in time for it to make s difference now but thanks xx
Firebird, I'm trying to keep myself to myself and just not reply to any messages and things. Hubby is trying to get me out the house today to visit his nephew but it's really the last thing I want to do. Hoping he will just go himself and I can get some time alone xx0 -
If you can get to Holland and Barrett, or get someone to pick you some up, do it Clara. I put a few drops in the bath and my contractions started when I was still laying in the water. I was also given it again during labour to speed up my contractions.
Thinking of you, I really hope it happens naturally before Wednesday xx0 -
Sweetbabu, My daughter is also coming up to 11 and I think I am definitely worrying more this time round.
Clara - I am also more than likely to be induced as because I am over 40, they have already said they won't allow me to go over 40 weeks. Given that all my previous babies were late (+7, +10 & +5) I think another induction is on the cards. The last 2 of mine were induced and the last one was a really positive experience, so please don't be disheartened if you end up going down that route.
Hope everyone else is doing OK? Hoping to get the nursery decorated this/next week - can't wait to get the room set up, Ive definitely started nesting in earnest!0 -
Sorry to hear you are still waiting Clara! It's horrid, we spend the earlier part pregnancy absolutely desperate not to go into premature labour (at least, that occupies my mind from time to time - I often Google survival stats for my current gestation) and then if you get to your due date the worry is then reversed!
I hope it all goes well for you either way. Not all inductions are horror stories; most are pretty similar to natural labour after an initial few hours. It's just we only ever hear the long / painful / EMCS stories. Most of the induction stories are too boring to retell. I'm really hoping yours is super boring.
I'll be 30 weeks on Wednesday; feels like another milestone. Only a quarter of pregnancy left (well theoretically!)
Managed to swim 50 lengths last Thursday only around 20% slower than pre-pregnancy which I'm pretty chuffed about. I was such a gym bunny before and have really let it slide which I'm now trying to correct as much as I can whilst I'm still able. I definitely feel better in myself after exercise. As the weather picks up I usually get my bike out at the weekend and go on longish cycles with my dad and sister and I'm a little sad that I think it'll be too much for me this year with my decline in fitness and pregnancy. Plus may be some balance issues. If we get another nice weekend I might try just cycling a few miles (2-5 rather than 15-30!) to a pub.
Anyone else's mood really picked up with the good weather? I'm loving it!Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! Debt free date 04/12/2015.

Not sure if I ever updated on my antenatal class! It was really really good and can't believe how much I learnt given my obsessive Googling and watching of OBEM. Was convinced it was just a "rite of passage" for expecting couples and we wouldn't actually learn that much that we couldn't pick up online. So I'm really looking forward to the next one (tomorrow evening). Only thing which was slightly disappointing was it was a very small group (4 couples) so not sure the potential for friend making. Snow- my mood is all over the place! Definitely good days and bad days. Your swimming is impressive. Glad your antenatal classes were good, like you I got a lot more out of them than I expected.
I'm just back from the midwife. She has referred me to physio for my back, and I should get an appointment within a couple of weeks (which right now seems an eternity, but I know it's not). She was happy with the changed movements and had a good feel of baby- he is definitely head down and although not quite engaged looks like he's working his way there so that's probably why the movements have shifted down. He's not measuring quite as big as he was (he had jumped to above 90th centile last couple of appts), but is still showing good growth so she was happy with that- OH and I just looked at the graph and he is measuring at being about 5lb 8 at the moment! That's more than I was at full term (although I'm a twin).
Heading out again in a bit as the cat seems like he might have a UTI so whisking him to the vets- he's not one to miss out on attention!
edit: update- the vet thinks cat's urinary problems are because of pregnancy stress. !!!!!!...0
