  • really hope it happens for you soon Kynthia!

Does anyone have any tips on sleeping? I am really struggling with tiredness now! I know they say it's best to sleep on your left side but it's just so uncomfortable for me...I think the baby is lying sideways as I have bits protruding from both sides at the same time...thinking hands and feet as she stretches out? When I lie on my left side she just batters me til I move! So I move (slooooowly) over to my right but then the pain starts in my hip. Obviously you're not supposed to lie on your back but even when I do that I get terrible pains anyway. I'm getting max 2 hours a night and I just can't function on that while still at work. I'm still using Spinning Babies to hopefully get her to move and maybe if she does I'll be able to sleep on my side a bit easier...but until then...I could actually cry!

Pink Petal have you tried a pillow between your knees or a whole maternity pillow which has a thinner bit for under your bump? Basically use pillows wherever you need. I got a Mothercare one off eBay fairly cheap. A softer mattress is best with sore hips so could you fold a duvet on top of your mattress (or get a mattress topper) and sleep on that?

Don't stress about sleeping on your left instead of your right as I think the only reason they say left over right is to encourage the baby's back to be on your left which is the prime labour position. I slept on my left for the the whole of my last pregnancy but my daughter's back stayed firmly on my right side and it caused no issues as I still had a fairly quick labour with no interventions. This time I spend half the night on my left and the other half on my right. Your back will be too uncomfortable once your baby gets big as they can compress your artery passing by that area so your body doesn't allow it for long.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
  • Thanks Kynthia, yep I have a full body maternity pillow that is a U shape so goes between your knees. At first it was amazing and really helped me but even that has stopped working now, it just gets in my way as I'm tossing and turning. I'm trying really hard not to moan too much about it as I've had a fairly easy pregnancy up til now so I know I should be thankful that this is the worst of my problems...but try telling me that when I'm trying to haul myself out of bed in the morning...or crashing at my desk at lunch time!

We have a lovely soft mattress topper but maybe I'll try putting something else under my hip. It only seems to be my right hip that's affected so if I could lie on my left I think I'd be ok...but she won't allow it! haha! I finish work two weeks today and I think I'll find it much easier than as I don't have to leave the house if I'm too tired. Counting the days!!

Back from my 28/9 week midwife appointment. My GTT results have thankfully come back normal but my iron levels are low. Got to get iron tablets and have my blood retested in 4 weeks. I think the omeprazole that I take for my heartburn is stopping me absorbing so much iron from my food as I've been really conscious of my iron levels after having pregnancy anaemia with my son (was also on omeprazole then too). Oh well, hopefully the iron kicks in quickly and I will get less headaches etc.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

I'm now 40+2 and was in the maternity unit yesterday morning and this morning for a check up for reduced movements, baby still isn't moving as they would like so I am in tomorrow to be induced, fingers crossed all goes ok!

Good luck Katy_ann. I hope the induction doesn't take too long and goes well.

hi pink! I've found sleeping on a thin/cheap v-pillow really helps me when sleeping and having a pillow between my knees (or a big pregnancy pillow) - I only get sore hips occasionally now.
I think by sleeping in the crack of the v-pillow it creates support on both sides while not putting any pressure on the hip.
  • Thanks newcook, I'll give that a try!

I was awake at 2.30am this morning but am working from home today so I ended up getting up and going down to the sofa for a while until I felt tired enough to go back to bed. Got back to sleep at about 4am and slept a couple of hours. It helped that I didn't have to get out of bed early so once I finish work I think it'll be easier!

    good luck Katy_Ann!!!

Pink - Ive found that that is my new sleeping pattern lol! I joked to OH the other day that I literally sleep like a baby and awake after 4 hours for the toilet and food.

sexymouse - make sure you eat plenty of iron rich foods too!

I think I worried OH the other day as I said I was getting braxton hicks - when I explained what they were, he obviously only heard the word 'labour' and started to panic saying its too early etc! thankfully he finally listened to what they actually were before he'd rushed me to hospital! god help me when the actual day arrives lol
  • Any news Katy Ann or kynthia??

newcook - I think it's probably just nature's way of getting us prepared!

Pleased to report that last night I managed to get 2 hours before I was up for the loo and after that I got back to sleep for 4 straight hours! This is unheard of these days and I think it's been months since I had that much sleep! I felt great this morning! I put a thin pillow under my hips so not sure if it's this that's done it or just sheer exhaustion but I wont complain either way!

So, had anyone had any amazing Black Friday baby purchases? I had a look to see if any of the things I have left to buy were on offer but none are so I've decided not to buy anything! The in laws did buy our nursery furniture with 25% off so that's exciting. Should be delivered in two weeks!
