I also had a surprise baby shower a couple of weeks ago. I was so against the idea as I hate been centre of attention but it was lovely. Lot's of lovely food and drink and a few games. Baby got totally spoilt!

I'm coming up to 35 weeks. Feeling lots of pressure on my pelvis so hopefully baby is starting to get into position. Still got another 26 days until maternity leave starts (the joys of being self employed). We're also still having major work done on the house - we've now been without an over for 1.5 months! Hoping to be almost done in the next 2 or 3 weeks though. Fingers crossed baby stays were she is for now.

Welcome Cats, I hope you enjoy this group and all the prep fur baby's arrival.

Sexymouse I did the group physio class and it's more about preventing the PGP getting worse (don't push yourself, avoid stairs and standing on one leg so sit down when dressing, etc). If you're really bad insist on a one-to-one session after.

Your baby showers sound lovely ladies. I'm not jealous at all. ;) I'm 39 weeks today which is 6 days further than I got in my last pregnancy. I've been thinking every twinge could be tge start of something but nothing yet. However I've been to the loo a few times today which had been unusual and they do say that can happen in the days leading up to labour.

You don't often get them with your first but they apparently get worse each time to my sister has suggested I buy codine to take in this time, but I'll have to check whether that is safe with breastfeeding.

I think codeine is ok in very small doses but check out the breastfeeding network fact sheet (run by a pharmacist with special interest in brestfeeding) for confirmation on what you can take.

Officially codeine is not ok to use whilst breastfeeding because it can metabolise to morphine in the body in rare cases and this is dangerous for a newborn. I was on painkillers for 2 months post baby and found paracetamol & ibuprofen taken together 3x a day was adequate for what i needed it for (split episiotomy stitches and resulting infections....)

I think I'll avoid codeine if breastfeeding just to be sure unless the nurses say any different.

  • I have an NCT breastfeeding workshop this week so I'll note this down as a question to ask the breastfeeding counsellor. I'd be very interested to know the answer as I take codeine when my sciatic problems flare up so I need to know whether to avoid it or not!

Hi All, just checking in from GD Towers at 33+4... had my follow up at the clinic last week and they were really pleased with my post-meal numbers but fasting sugars had crept up slightly so they've put me on metformin... was told if I decided to stay diet controlled after 34 weeks they wouldn't prescribe metformin after that so would be straight to insulin...gutted really but what can I do? The good news is it seems to be working, had great numbers this week so hoping when I go back they will keep me as I am and I will avoid the insulin route. Got another growth scan next week so will see if I have a giant megababy growing or not yet (49th percentile last time...).

Cats its so great to see you on here! Welcome to the "big" thread.

Pink your baby shower sounds gorgeous, I've got mine next week and quite excited about it now... I'm not a very girly girl at heart but I've been to so many over the years will be quite nice for it to be mine for a change!! I finish work next Friday too, AGH its all getting very real this. Our buggy and car seat arrive on Friday and going to get my hospital bag together once I'm done with work... where has this last few weeks even gone?

Glad everyone is well, any twinges today Kynthia? Thinking of you x

Thanks for the welcome all :) Manc how exciting that you're finishing work so early!! I'm planning to go right up until 38 weeks but we shall see...seemed like a good idea but now I'm thinking another 14 weeks seems ages! Having said that, I go stir crazy at the best of times so it's probably a fine balance.

AFM I've got a HORRIBLE cold so been working at home yesterday and today, in between naps. Completely underestimated how hard it would be not being able to take any decent medicine - I always get horrible painful coughs when I get a bug and honey and lemon just isn't soothing my throat at all :( miss medicine far more than alcohol!!

Cats as long as you're not allergic to pineapple, try fresh (not from concentrate) pineapple juice. It contains an anti inflammatory and really works. I discovered it when it was taking a while for antibiotics to kick in once when I had tonsillitis. Another thing to try is basil - natural anaesthetic and antiseptic too.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Thank you for thinking of me MancMama. No more labour pains since last Monday but painful braxton hicks most evenings now where my whole bump is solid. I just want to go into labour now as my bump feels massive and stretched, I'm fed up of acid reflux, I get lots of painful baby movements and twinges below (is the baby punching my cervix?), I worry I'll get stretch marks my last week after getting this far, it hurts to pick up stuff off the floor (there's lots to pick up with a 2 year old) and put my shoes on, I can't walk much, etc, etc. I know I should enjoy this time and relax however I never realised how annoying constantly being on tenterhooks all the time could be. I guess this baby wants to keep me guessing. :)
