Unfortunately I think only paracetamol and ibuprofen are safe while breastfeeding...
yes take painkillers, I wasn't offered any! In the 3 days I ended up spending in various hospitals (getting help with feeding and keeping an eye on jaundice) I was offered painkillers just twice!

I know to go to hospital when they are so painful that I'll howl, cry, or be unable to talk at the peak.
Sorry to butt in early (15 weeks with number 2) but I just had to reply and say PLEASE don't use this as your benchmark! That is exactly how I ended up with an unplanned home birth first time around!
My contractions were fine all day, mildly irritating at best. Hubby popped the tens on me as they'd progressed to kind of 'ouch thats uncomfortable' before popping out for 20mins and said we'd do a trip to hospital when he got back just for a progress check.
By the time he got home I was on the bathroom floor vomiting from the pain, my waters had broken and I had gone straight into transition, he phoned for an ambulance and the labour ward sent a pair of midwives. Only one arrived in time to deliver my baby. My pains did not get to the 'unable to talk/crying/howling' stage until I was 10cm and ready to deliver.
Everything was fine, and I am planning a home birth this time but please don't ever use that as a benchmark. Some of us have a high pain threshold and until the time comes you don't know if you are one of those women.
This time I don't think Hubby will be allowed out of arms reach from about 39 weeks! :rotfl:0 -
Newcook your OH is a cheeky one! When he goes through labour then he can decide on the level of pain relief! I bet when he sees you in pain he'd be quick to change his mind.
One thing to bear in mind is that pools aren't always available, you might get there too late to use one, you might need to get out of the pool if it slows your labour down or you or the baby need monitoring for some reason, etc. So don't limit your plan to the pool scenario and put whether you're willing to consider other pain relief options.
oh definitely! I'm an eternal optimist though so the way I'm planning it the pool will be available and the birth will be relatively pain free and it will all be done and dusted in a few hours...
failing the above, I'll have every pain relief going and dont care if a trained monkey gets the baby out lol!
from what I can gather from my friends though, with the first baby we all have this lovely image in our heads as to how it will all pan out and it all works out how we want but the reality can be very different so while I've got what I'd like, if it doesnt go to plan I wont care as the prize at the end is all that matters!0 -
Psycho thank you for the info, I hadn't even thought about dimming the lights etc, I hate those harsh hospital lights!! I'm just on the NHS website and seems a great starting point xMancMama4 (35) TTC since Apr 15, MMC Dec 15, Our Rainbow Baby Charlie arrived Dec 16 :heart2:0

Kanichen, as I said that was my benchmark for when to go in as I went initially before it got that painful. It turned out I was only 2cm and had to go home. Obviously I thought it would take hours before I progressed enough to go back so even though I was in agony and crying out at the peak of each contraction I didn't go back to the hospital until 3.5 hours later when my waters broke and I started pushing. That was not a good time to be in the car and it made it an awful drive plus it turned out I was 9cm!
So going in too early just means being sent home and risking going back too late as well. It's so hard to say how quick we'll each progress as it's individual. You probably missed the earlier discussions about not going in too soon but not letting them put you off coming in when you think you're progressing, as I know of others who were told not to come in because a first baby takes ages even though they were having the required frequency of contractions and then nearly had or did have the baby at home. I believe common advice is to go in once you are having three contactions in 10 mins and they are lasting nearly a minute each but your own maternity triage will advise you.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
It's all gone quiet on here. How is everyone?
I'm 38 +4 today and this is further along than I got in my last pregnancy. So now I'm tired and eager to have this baby. Perhaps I should look up relexolgy points and get OH to give me a labour inducing foot rub tonight?
Anyone got a holiday booked, maybe a short break before the baby arrives or a holiday as a new family?Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Had my GTT test done this morning and routine 28 week bloods. Got my midwife appointment on Wednesday to discuss the results, so hopefully they'll all come back ok. I'm dreading them telling me I've gestational diabetes, as I'm needle-phobic and the idea of even the finger !!!!! test multiple times a day in the beginning is very stressful. I've not felt as ill from the GTT as I did with my son (I had some food straight after and didn't feel faint this time, but had a really bad headache so came home and had a nap).
Baby has been kicking me lots - not sure if it's due to the extra sugar from the lucozade, or whether it's just because he's getting so big that I notice the slightest movements now.
I've been having problems with my back and pelvis, so think I may have PGP - I've been referred to an antenatal physio class that's on the 6th December to specifically deal with this condition, so I hope it is helpful as I've had the pain from around 18 weeks and it seems to be getting worse.
I bought the baby a rainbow blanket on ebay the other day, which is one of the first real things I've bought him. I've found it hard to buy anything up until now due to being anxious after losing my daughter last year. We have lots of clothes etc left over from my son, so just have a car seat and new mattress for the cotbed to buy really before he arrives (maybe a new going home outfit too). I also need to test out my breast pump to check it still works and locate the newborn cocoon for our pushchair (I'd completely forgotten this from my son).Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -

Welcome to the threat cats! Lovely to see you on here!
Hit 34 weeks at the weekend and was treated to a lovely baby shower...I knew my mum was up to something but assumed it would be a a small thing with that aunties. Turned out we had our own room at a local restaurant with 30 odd people, afternoon tea, gorgeous cake made by my friend and lots of games. I thought it would be cringe but it was a really fun afternoon! Totally embarrassed about the amount of gifts people brought for me and for the little lady. Took two cars to get them all back to our house (and we have a big-ish car) and now they are taking up the whole living room...we have nowhere to put any of it! Just another reason we really need to get that nursery sorted!
Hope everyone is doing well. I'm still not sleeping and the baby is still moving and wriggling like crazy making it too uncomfortable to even attempt sleep. I finish work in a couple of weeks and it can't come soon enough!0 -
I had a surprise shower too pinks - though not as many people!
I was so touched by everyone's gifts and giving up their sunday afternoon to spend with me
I'm also on the countdown until my maternity leave starts - I love my job but I cant wait to not have to commute everyday in cold, wet weather!
Ive literally been sleeping like a baby - awake every 3-4 hours then waking for food and toilet!
the other night I had a good 6 and a half hours - it was bliss although I did wake up in a bit of a panic as I hadnt woken earlier but a few re-assuring kicks put my mind at ease!
little madam seems to find it funny to use my bladder as a pillow so even if I have just been to the toilet I still need to go! she also uses my ribs as a foot rest and thinks my stomach is a trampoline (not good for the heartburn or when trying to eat lol!) I wouldnt change it for the world though - such a beautiful feeling having her roll around inside me0
