Hi girls, hope everyone's doing well! Can't believe how quickly the list is changing, starting to feel VERY real now lol.

I'm really sorry to hear about your dog Robots, it's never nice to hear that sort of news, especially when you have so much going on at the moment too.

Glad your work are going to make things easier for you MSA. After the week I've had, I would LOVE my bosses to give me even a day with a little less stress. Has anyone else found that just as they are due to leave, management panic and workload increases?

Well today's plans are to finally get the hospital bag packed following a little scare a couple of nights ago. Following my bump dropping over the last few days, she decided to put as much pressure down below as possible, resulting in the worst back pain I have ever felt. So what should have been a 10 minute walk back to the car turned into a 35 min walk lol. I was very worried to be honest, but OH was more concerned I hadn't packed my bag and he would have to go and sort out the bag for me resulting in 'waste of petrol' if he forgot anything. Men eh?

So had a look online and think I will just get the following today:

    Nightdress
    Slippers
    Eye mask
    Maternity pads

I have a few other bits already for baby and me like dressing gown etc, but feel I'm missing a lot. And googling hospital bag lists just confused me more...this should be fun! x

Off the top of my head, how about adding these to the list?
    Big knickers/disposable ones
Flipflops (hospital showers can be gross!)
    Snacks
    Straws
    Witch hazel
    Towel
    Dry shampoo + other toiletries
    Hair bobbles/band
    Change of top for oh
Going home outfit (I'm waiting for my h&m delivery with nursing vest in and I need to get measured up for nursing bras too)

I'd go and look in mine (it's been in the car for weeks) but oh has gone to work in my car today! :wall:

At my 28 week check the Midwife went back over having a Home Birth. She said I am an ideal candidate as I had a quick labour with my DS and with no intervention and not too much aftermath.

Her main concern is the speed I laboured the first time and that it 'may' be quicker this time.

My point is that we have two dogs, a cat, the only suitable place for a birthing pool would be our lounge and I do not want all that mess in my front room.

I can see why it is a choice for some, but I would rather be near professionals and machines if I need them.

I am quite scared this time round that the labour could be quicker but if it is it is there is not much I can do. The Midwife has said that she would like to leave a bag here (A delivery bag apparently) just in case I don't manage to get to hospital.

I am 30 weeks Sunday and I have said I do want the oppertunity to change my mind if I want to. Its my choice and maybe nearer the time I might think it is what I would like. I have plenty of time to change my mind I hope.

I wouldn't get yourself overly worried about it. My mum was told the same thing. When she had be she was only in labour for a matter of hours (start to finish). She was told second births are often quicker and easier etc. But she was in labour for days (from start of contractions to having baby) with my sister. My mum also makes it well known that she preferred it much quicker lol. As long as I am already in the hospital I dont mind if I labour quickly. As long as baby girl isn't born in the middle of the street I don't mind :rotfl:

Oh no, so sorry to hear about your dog Robots :( Sad times.

Sounds like a plan to get your bag packed Faith, hope everything is smooth sailing from now on in.

Nice to read the discussion on birthing places. I thought about a home birth but hope to go to the midwife unit. Maybe next time :)

Your story made me laugh Neverdespairgirl!

Sam - I hope your next labour isn't too quick to as to be stressful / a bit uncontrollable. But a short labour sounds so much more appealing than those 40 hour horror stories :)

Hope you feel some stirrings soon, Emz.

Firey I'm also craving sugar like a fiend :( It is so hard to resist, I am not doing too well. Today I had a salted caramel brownie - argh!

Glad work has sorted itself out a bit Alias.

Today I hit the local NCT sale. It was very small and heaving with buggies. I picked up a few bargains: 10 unused muslins for £2 and an activity mat for £7. Got a bath support for £2 as well but it has a hairline crack which I didn't notice. Oh well, am sure it will still be alright for all the time we'll probably use it! I thought the £2 entry fee was quite steep considering the size. It was mostly clothes and since we are team yellow, I haven't really bought much and we have been given unisex newborn basics. It was too busy to go scouring for unisex stuff through the whole lot and things still seemed quite pricey. The fleabay bundles seemed better value.

  • Lara we've been to the NCT sales, and have been really unimpressed with them. We find the mum2mum markets better. We went to one this morning and got some good bargains, including the Baby Bjorn active baby carrier which we've been after for ages, it's £100 brand new and we got one as new in the box still for £10!!!! I almost bit the woman's hand off when she said a tenner!! OH is thrilled and can't wait to use it!

One of my next big jobs the next couple of weeks is to sort out the hospital bag. I'll be 30 weeks next week and I said I would do the bag at about 30 weeks so that I don't have to worry about it. I think I've got most stuff, just need a dressing gown and nightdresses, and I need to wash the baby clothes that are going into it. It's going to be a big job, especially since most of the stuff to go into it is hidden in the depths of our spare room underneath everything we've brought for baby and house, so I've no idea how I'm going to do it!

How many weeks are others waiting til to do their hospital bags?

So sorry to hear about your dog, Robots <hugs>

Ndg that's hilarious! Stupid woman, makes you wonder how some people even get jobs like that! Glad you got it sorted though, and what a lovely name :)

I'm trying to get OH to take name discussions seriously - he's so very, very fussy. So I tried calling Bump Mohammed last week, and Aethelbald this week, to spark him into thought and then action. OH is joint British-Israeli, so we need a name that makes sense in both countries. That pretty much means Old Testament names (hence our elder son being Isaac) and I hope that ugly Anglo-Saxon names might cause movement.
NDG I laughed reading that, seriously some people just have no common sense do they?!

Not the sense that they should've been born with, no!

We've not actually got an appointment yet, the midwife's going to sort it out, though, I hope.

Appointment went well on Thursday, apart from a lot of tears - most likely because I'm a slight control freak and had already got my head around finishing at the beginning of May, EDD is 18 May, so was going to finish work on 2 May. However, because of the GD the consultant wants to induce around 38/39 so has encouraged me to finish between 34 - 36 weeks.

Now taking one metformin a day to control my morning blood sugars, and first day I saw an improvement! Just have to actually remember to take them :)

Updated occupational health at work, and because of my commute (I live in Bucks and work in Central London) the nurse suggested that I work from home one day a week, had my one-to-one with my manager that afternoon and dropped the bombshell that I have to finish early (they only interviewed the day before for my replacement), I may be lucky and have two weeks with my replacement.

Speaking with HR on Tuesday, it's taken me a couple of days, but I've come round to the idea now of finishing early. Bumped into my mum's cousin in town this morning and she was diagnosed with insulin dependent diabetes when she was pregnant and has slightly concerned me by saying that being induced is painful, but the epidural certainly helps. Parentcraft starts on 18 March, so will no doubt find out a lot then.

It feels good to get everything down and out of my head.

Husband has been laughing at me this evening because I've taken to just sitting there quietly and watching bump move in my belly!

Thankyou! I knew there was lots I forgot :o I popped into town and got the flip flops, dry shampoo etc, hair bands and nightdress (hideous!) and hoping to pick up the rest tomorrow. I also picked up a tankini top as we are hoping to have a water birth and I would feel better with something on my top half.

Oh and as for witch hazel which one is best to get? As they had a bottle in superdrug which said do not use on broken skin blah blah blah and then the one next to it said it was concentrated and good for burns/grazes etc.

Thanks again to you and the rest of the ladies, I would be even more confused if it wasn't for you lot :)
