The powder needs to be mixed with water that is above a certain temperature to sterilise it. The instructions are the correct way of doing this and your midwife is wrong. By making formula up differently to the manufactors instructions you are opening up the posibilities of gastroentiritius and other bacteria that causes tummy upsets as they have not been killed off by the hot water.

To be fair you don't put formula into boiling water, you put it in cooled boiled water, which is essentially what this is. My midwife and health visitor have no issue with how I do it.

It sounded great flutter. I do remember seeing there is supposed to be a bf group local to me so will look into it more once my mat leave starts.

I have my small hand luggage suitcase out the loft, that's about as far as I have got with my hospital bag!! I probably should start washing baby bits and working out what I need to buy myself!!

Was going to go to Ikea to buy baby's wardrobe but my feet were sore and swollen and I was so tired we will have to go another day. Baby's room still isn't quite ready yet but hopefully a new radiator will be put in this weekend and I can order a new carpet to be fitted for when oh has a couple of days off next week then we can finally get organised!! Can't believe I'm over 33 weeks already, bump doesn't feel as big as I thought it may be, but I think after I start maternity leave next week I am going to stick to just driving around town as bump is getting a bit close to the steering wheel!!
  • Hope you feel better soon ThinkPink... I hate that shop at the best of times! We were going to buy the childrens furniture but ended up buying the Herefoss drawers and wardrobe as we much preferred it.

Today the cot should be being delivered... luckily my neighbours mum has offered to wait in for me so I didn't have to take another day off work. I left strict instructions with the delivery company how to find us (we are on a new build estate so postcode doesn't work!), and to call me if there is ANY issue. Fingers crossed it arrives this time!

  • I quite like IKEA. For small bits anyway. Not a huge fan of furniture from there. Last used them when we moved in 7 years ago but haven't been in store since and I think the only stuff still standing are the desks and chairs in the office. Husband HATES them. Goes back to when we bought things when we moved in..the first and only time he even stepped foot in there. We were going to order a few big bits online from them, changing table and wardrobe. But ended up going to Mamas and Papas instead. Their delivery guys put on little paper boots and take it up stairs for you. IKEA won't even bring it in the door because they aren't insured! When you think what they charge for delivery it's a joke.

M&P have some good deals on if you're buying whole sets at the moment, for anyone who is still looking. And you get vouchers for money off buys after that.

I love Ikea! I love looking at all the rooms laid out all neat. We have non matching furniture for nursery. I couldn't find a set I liked that wasn't extortionate or white. Our cot and change table are from Mothercare, chest of drawers from Ikea and 2nd hand nursing chair. All are various shades of pine.

I thought things were starting last night, I had strong period pains from about 5pm to 3am but then it tailed off. Have mild period pain now. To be honest I'm hoping I hold out til Friday as OH'S kids are here today til Friday day and it will be a bit of a faff to rearrange childcare lol.

I think you've probably just jinxed yourself into having it happen today ;)

That doesn't sound right to me? The boiling water is to sterilise the formula powder, if you are using cooled boiling water then it won't be hot enough to do that?

Happy belated due date flutter! I'm surprised your midwife has offered a sweep so early, it's minimum 41 weeks here but she also knows I'll be refusing them :D

I went to a la leche league group a few weeks back and it was really informative and they are all nice ladies, just a little 'different' to me. That said, there's three really experienced bf ladies at my positive birth group who are lovely too, there's a lot of support out there for those that want it

37+4 here today, birth pool currently blown up but sitting empty in lounge ready for a trial run. Hubby was making me test out birthing positions in it last night so he's happy my butt will be under the water :rotfl:. The snuzpod is set up next to the bed and I now have pram and isofix Base, just need to clean them up.

Baby was 2/5 last Tuesday, midwife doesn't think she'll see me at my 39+3 appointment but we will see! I'm so jealous of all the ladies with little nurseries set up, I can't see us doing anything until next year now.

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D
