Our antenatal team advise against perfect prep, I haven't looked in to it but apparently they don't boil the water?
They recommend boiling the water because it's the powder that needs sterilising, not the actual water?
My midwife said that they advise against using it as per the instructions. You press the button once and it releases a shot of boiling water, then you press it again and it tops up with water to bring it down to the correct temperature. The instructions say to put in the formula before you press the button again, my midwife said to wait until all of the water has been dispensed. We've not had any issues anyway, I'm sure if it was that unsafe it wouldn't be on sale. Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

The powder needs to be mixed with water that is above a certain temperature to sterilise it. The instructions are the correct way of doing this and your midwife is wrong. By making formula up differently to the manufactors instructions you are opening up the posibilities of gastroentiritius and other bacteria that causes tummy upsets as they have not been killed off by the hot water.Living in a superhero induced haze :A:A

Well clearly baby didn't get the message that today is it's due date :rotfl: 40 weeks and no real signs, odd bit of period pain and loose bowels twice yesterday but nowt else.
I have MW appt later this afternoon, and then hopefully going to go to the local bf group afterwards.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

Flutter I hope baby decides to make an appearance soon!
We bought a wardrobe, drawers and changing unit last night, hopefully the cot is arriving tomorrow.... all ready for FIL and DH to put together this weekend. I always find the swedish shop so stressful, it's never a simple visit! Very much looking forward to our week off next week, not much planned but need a rest!Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16Became homeowners 26.02.16

I'm sure the novelty will fade quickly, but i've been ironing and putting away a mountain of her tiny clothes and loved it. I know she will somehow get through them all, but at the moment there are so many it seems impossible she will even get to wear everything once before growing out of them.
The wardrobe has double rails, so ideal for tiny clothes and the changing table drawers are huge so managed to get a lot of things in there. But there's still loads extra. Argh.
The cats are obsessed with the nursery. They're not used to being locked out of any rooms so every time we pop in to put anything away they're in there for a nosey and have to be in every gap. Just had to lock roomba in for ten minutes when we got them out of there to Hoover up any fur.
I can't believe it's all finally finished. Nursery and Moses baskets for upstairs and downstairs. Everything is ready, so if nothing has changed by the next scan next week and I do end up having to have an early section, at least it's all ready. Seemed impossible at one point.Book a week challenge: 11/52. Competitions won in 2021: 120 -
Thanks ladies.
MW appt was fine, baby is 4/5ths engaged so that's good. She has booked me in for 3 sweeps (+5, +7 and +9) and booked my induction for August 7th. Praying I won't need it! I'm feeling fine so far, I just don't want to be induced.
I'm now sat outside the bf group trying to pluck up the courage to go in :rotfl: I don't like new situations! I've dropped OH at work (he came to appt) so have my car for the afternoon, yay! Going to have a wander round shops later, walk should help baby get moving. Oh and OH says I'm "on his to-do list" tonight lol.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

I hope baby makes an appearance soon flutter. Good luck with the bf group, I always find it quite daunting going to anything like that for the first time. How did you find it?
We've been given some reusable nappies. I like the idea of them, but not sure how practical they will work out to be with regards to washing, drying and convenience, especially in winter.
I've got a bag to use as my hospital bag but haven't really thought about packing it yet. I need to write a list of what to take, and check with midwife what the hospital usually says re: nappies, wipes or cotton wool etc.
30 weeks now... My bump feels so big, I can't imagine what it's going to be like in a few more weeks time!0 -
Beckyy let me know if you do use them... I am tempted but not sure as to the practicalities. I don't like the idea of throwing hundreds of disposable nappies into landfill, but equally not sure about the practicalities of reusable.Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16

Thanks Beckyy. It was a lovely group and I felt so welcome that I stayed the whole time so didn't make it to the shops! All the ladies were lovely, and the babies were so cute. It's run by a MW, who is 7 months pregnant! Some of the ladies were really impressed that I'd thought to come before baby, and when I explained if been advised by a friend to do that cos it's nerve wracking with a newborn they all agreed! Got some useful tips and hopefully started to make some mummy friends. It's held weekly so I will definitely be going once baby is here and we feel ready to go out. I also joined their Facebook group too.
To anyone thinking of bf I'd definitely recommend going to a group pre birth if you can, I feel a lot happier about bf and where to get help.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *
