I'm just not looking forward to being at home more before bubs arrives I think - I'm not very good at resting/chilling out!

I'll be fine once she is here but until then I hate feeling like I'm just sitting around and waiting. Luckily I have a few little projects starting now which I can pick up and put down as and when I feel like it :)

Eugh major frustrations with the girl covering my leave part time - my manager is having the same ones too so is well aware of it now and has promised to crack the whip in my absence! Definitely looking forward to time away from another of the new hires though - we have a woman in on a sub contract basis and she makes me feel so awkward as she swears all the time and is generally impatient and unprofessional (compared to the expectations of our workplace anyway) 90% of the time so looking forward to being away from that!

Compared to even last week though I am coming round to the idea that the extra time off is a positive. It will give bf and I a few days together just the two of us too :)

  • Quaveriw welcome, and sorry to hear you're stressed, try not to worry until your appointment, when I'm sure you'll get a chance to talk about what's worrying you and hopefully they can reassure you and give you more of an idea about what they want to do. I hope it goes ok.

Lush you're crazy to not be looking forward to your mat leave, I can't wait for mine as I know we will be in our house by then and I'll have so much to do to keep me busy. I'll definitely have to do my old trick though of writing myself a list of to-do's each day or I'll end up becoming very unfocused and lazing around and not getting anything done probably!

  • Lush I worked out just now (couldn't wait until I got to work tomorrow!) that I've only got 40 working days left until my maternity leave, and they haven't even found anyone to replace me yet! I worried at first and then I thought hey, that's their problem, and if they struggle whilst I'm off all the better as at least they will welcome me back with open arms at the other end of my leave!

Anyway I hate my director so I won't be losing any sleep worrying about her struggling, but I do love my boss and I know she will just get the brunt which makes me feel bad for her. Ah well, I'll have more to worry about once the baby comes!! I'll be making a point of handing my work laptop back though, in case my director thinks it's appropriate to ask me to log on and check for stuff whenever she feels like it!

My first few days of mat leave were strange... Didn't really like it and couldn't relax. Now I'm like Claire and I love it!! Not overdoing it but finding little things to fill my day an potter about!
I'm not sleeping much at night either due to the hip pain but being able to rest in the day is helping tremendously.

This is exactly how i feel! I have 35 working days left (got some annual leave between now and May 9th) They are still waiting to find out if they even have funding to employ cover, it takes a good 2-3 months to employ anyone in the NHS so there is no way there will be anyone in post by the time i go. I feel sorry for my two colleagues though as they will pick up the slack and we are pushed as it is.

But like you at least i'll be appreciated when i come back! :D

I too cannot wait to start leave!!

I keep joking that baby needs to stick to my schedule. Give me a week or so off to get some sleep in and jobs done and then come a week or two early so that i have more time off with full pay with baby! I was so bored last time was DS was 2 weeks late and ended up using 7 weeks of my full pay part of mat leave just waiting for him to come!
  • Thanks for the info/reassurance re movement. I guess I'm not really sure what is ' normal' so it's a worry.

My secret alias - that is totally adorable of your husband :)

NeverDespaireGirl - I guess she she was the daughter of lord rivers that's where the name association comes from but never mind!

I'm a ball of worry about our dog. She's not well and it could be the worst. Husband has gone to fetch her from the vets as he knows I couldn't cope.
Please forgive the badly spelt alias... I am a long time contributor who needed to reclaim anonymity for health/job related posts.

Not posted in this thread before as I'm only 17+3 but just wanted to say how lovely your story about your OH was mysecretalias :p ! Following my OH's initial reaction to my BFP I was worried he wasn't as excited as me about having a baby but since then he has been increasingly excited as we get more things and has this smile on his face whenever we talk about the baby. I said yesterday that the baby pretty much consumes my thoughts all day and was surprised when he said it was most of the day for him too :D !

I think it takes a lot longer for it to be real to fathers-to-be; after all, it's all happening inside us, but for ages, all they can actually see is us being sick and tired and bursting into tears!

Once they can get kicked from the outside, and the bump's about to get its own postcode, it's a lot more real to the Dad, I think.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Why is this even a question? National Insurance pays the majority of SMP so they should have the money available to cover you. They shouldn't be causing you stress by implying that they may not be able to fund cover while you are away.
  • Robots I hope your dog is ok :(:(

Cllola I wouldn't let lack of cover stress you out, as long as you make it crystal clear that you won't be tolerating being contacted about anything whilst you're off I would leave them to sort that out themselves :p
