I was cross last time they asked over and over again if I wanted a pool through pregnancy, luckily I didn't and hadn't set my whole birth plan around that. As soon as I walked in contracting, midwife said "sorry you can't have a pool due to your bmi " at no point had anyone ever said that before! Thankfully I wasn't bothered.
I saw vbac midwife this time who offered me a "high risk pool"(due to previous section) and I quoted the bmi conversation back to her. She said over 35 usually means no pool but "you don't look anywhere close to that". Flattering but unhelpful! Don't offer something without being certain I can have it. Also agree bmi is a load of rubbish! Mainly because I'm over normal
No early night here, battled through toddler bath and bedtime, back feels so sore! Also bleached every surface DH has been near today. Praying me and the little one don't get iT! Already had gastro once this pregnancy!!0 -
Note to self : do not swig gaviscon with a sore mouth!

So glad we are hoping for homebirth! I know it's all policy but it's !!!!!. When I did my booking in I got the whole bmi spiel so I asked her how unhealthy I was when I'd done a 5k obstacle mud race about five weeks before I feel pregnant... Bmi does not equal health.
So I'm doing one of my middle of the night up scratching and not sleeping stints. Just had some cereal, catching up on forums and hoping sleep well befriend me at some point. Have organised a baby shower for a lady in my team tomorrow, she's due in July, I really hope she likes it!
Hope it gets better soon pig, doesn't sound pleasant at all....

Can I ask a couple of questions?
When do you start discussing where you can give birth and the risks etc? I think we have a mlu nearby or there's the maternity ward at the large hospital on the outskirts of town so would be good to start thinking about whether the mlu is an option. I've not been weighed since my 12 week scan so no idea what I weigh or what my bmi is!!
Also, when have people had the whopping cough jab? It's not been mentioned yet to me!!0 -

It was briefly mentioned at my booking in appointment as she mentioned I was high risk and they advised I go to the hospital rather than mlu, however I could actually do what I want if I really wanted to go against medical advice. I would just ask about options at your next midwife meeting if it's not mentioned? It's all very overwhelming the first time as you don't really have any idea about options etc... My friend said she was high risk so had her second baby at the hospital but then transferred to the mlu for a nights stay... So that's also an option!
Whooping cough and flu were actually mentioned to me by the nurse doing my annual review at the doctors surgery... Again perhaps just ask about it if you do think you want them.Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16Became homeowners 26.02.16

Whooping cough used to be around 28 weeks but I believe it changed this year on 1st April to anytime after 16 weeks. I don't think they worry too much as long as it's done at some point (if you want it) around 28-32 weeks.
As for discussing options I've just spoken to my midwife about options when I've seen her. They will start to encourage you to put a birth plan together at some point in the third trimester although saying that I'm 36 weeks and it's not been mentioned to get something down on paper so I probably need to do that. not that it'll go to plan of course!!0 -
I had my whooping cough at 28 weeks, but discussed pros and cons with midwife earlier than that.
Discussing birth options can be done at any time, in any midwife appointment. Those appointments are your opportunity to discuss anything with them, as soon as you wish.
I still need to put my birth plan together. I haven't bothered yet as a c-section is looking more and more likely. Stubborn little eurobaby! LolFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -
tbh.. with experience of 5 hospitals.. most birth plans are a waste of time.. you have no idea what will happen or how you will cope and I am yet to find anyone at the hospital who is capable of reading notes let alone a birth plan.
Stuff like pain relief is pointless mentioning if you want something just say so and they are more than happy to give you it.. they do ask often if you are ok or if you want anything extra so it isnt like they will say no.
Pools are limited so it is if they have one free you ask when you get there and see.. they aren't an option usually.. but you can mention you might like one if available.
You cannot predict what intervention you will need so saying 'as little as possible' is not worth the bother.. you go with the flow. They are legally bound to tell you what they are needing to do and why and get your consent.
What might be worth mentioning (other than the option of the pool) would be delayed cord clamping maybe if it is possible.. though often they cut the cord before they are delivered because they have it around their neck.. so that is denied too in some cases. Drugs for placenta delivery.. they can also be delayed if you choose. Vitamin K injecton for baby they will want to know about. Read up on these before making a decision.
Oh.. whether you want the baby delivering onto your tummy or if you want it wrapped.. whether you want it passing to dad first or you. This is also an option if you have a section Euro.. you can request they remove the screens to deliver, delay cord clamping and deliver straight into your arms.. so feel free to tell them it is an option.
Also a mention of how you wish to feed baby.. they will try to force you to try bf even if you are adamant you dont want to.. my advice .. try it, even if just once, before deciding it is not for you.. its easy to switch to formula, not so easy to switch to boob.
And.. the closer this one gets to arriving the angrier and more resistant I am becoming.. I need a chill-bean.. I've not even seen anyone and I want to beat them daft. Maybe I'm just tired and not feeling great.. however, I am cancelling the consultant appointment booked for Friday.. I don't have time to deal with them before my 10:30 appoiintment so I'm not going.. if they don't like it, they can cry, I don't care *strop!!*

I think the birth plan is really just to make sure you think about the options and possibilities of what could happen. Most people otherwise would just have no idea as they wouldn't think to ask any questions or read up on any of it.
I will put a birth plan together but only for the reason above, and I am fully aware and accepting that the chances are it won't happen that way anyway!Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16Became homeowners 26.02.16

Maybe different for me but my OB is adamant he wants to see my birth plan in next 2 appointments as he wants to give me as close to my birth plan as possible. But then my care has been different than it would be in Uk/Ireland.
For one, the chances of me suing the hospital are greaterSo him having a clearer picture of my preferences it probably better.
I got my WC vaccine at 30 weeks - arm hurt for day or two after but that was it.
