I've been wearing maxi dresses for months.. cant get trousers on and loathe tights.. i wore them with a long sleeve top and a jumper up until this week.
hayfever.. they wont sell you anything over the counter. Newer hayfever meds are known to cause problems (clarytin/loratidine ones) ... older ones you can take but would have to be prescribed.. beconase nasal spray is ok too.. it is topical .. only works on sinuses so has zero effect on the inhabitant. .. you can get that prescribed too. local honey is supposed to be a good effective remedy if you can bear to eat honey!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Well, health visitor called yesterday and left a voicemail to arrange a visit before the birth. So, I've just called her back and have it arranged for Friday 3rd June after I've finished work.
Do they stay for an hour roughly? No idea what to expect.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Don't expect much..
They bring the baby record book.. they are red here. They do newborn hearing screening here so they usually mention that and sometimes they have a list of baby clinics where you can take your baby to be weighed .. though if they are growing and happy and healthy it seems pointless to do so but some people like to go regularly, no harm in it whichever camp you fall into.... bit of an outing too I think
Waffle about immunisations and tell you all the reasons you should have them and none of the reasons you should not.. you need to look into those yourself to enable yourself to make an informed decision.
And that they will come when baby is between 10-14 days old.. that's about it.. oh, and dump a mountain of leaflets on you..
My appointment was last Monday but obviously, being Monday, I couldn't have gone anyway.. I can't walk that far and OH is at college. They don't bring them to the house we have to go to the childrens centre (no ta!)
They are not knowledgeable about breastfeeding in the slightest but might be able to point you in the direction of breastfeeding supporters/groups should you wish to go.. a lot are happy to see people antenatally so it might be worth asking what is available by you if you are going to bf and feel you may need the support or have questions before hand.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Thanks pigpen.
As ever, there seems to be some variation between areas.
I definitely do want to breastfeed, and they went over some of that in antenatal class last night. I also understand that even if I birth at the main hospital, I can then request to be transferred to my local midwife led centre for recovery and they will provide some one on one guidance with breastfeeding (advised by friend who did it last time, and by the midwife last night). So I plan on taking full advantage of that.
Also, my community midwife gave me a booklet about feeding baby a few weeks back which covers breastfeeding in depth and has pages at the back with details of all the local support groups etc. Also includes pictures, and step by step guide! lol And pictures of pooey nappies over the first 5 days! haha. All I could think was 'they must get a lot of calls about the colour of baby's poo to include this in here!' lolFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -
ooh poo becomes one of the more interesting aspects of parenthood.. it is like the weather.. lovely sunny day and a lovely yellow poo today.. up the back and out of the legs, had to bin the tights!
Do they have a lactation consultant? Midwives have very little training in breastfeeding too so I would recomend asking to see a LC or a peer supporter who have experience and training purely in breastfeeding.. Midwives (according to my friends who recently graduated uni) have around 30-60 minute session on the mechanics of lactation rather than actual feeding.. I'd definitely request someone who has relevant training.
I did the NCT BF counsellor training and the breastfeeding peer supporter training too.. I'd offer to help but I think I might be busyLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
35 weeks today!
I also plan on breastfeeding and have been researching it lots. We have a local breastfeeding club which runs on a Wednesday afternoon so when I start Mat Leave I plan to head down to meet the ladies, get to know them all and learn as much as possible. They have also been running a Facebook group for expectant mums for us to ask questions etc. which has been really helpful.
I can't wait to finish work now. 7.5 working days left. Having a "leaving night" next week, going out for a curry. 17 people coming out of the 23 I work with so I am chuffed with that. I must be liked...0 -
If it is any consolation.. I know few people who had issues breastfeeding and if they did there was often a problem, tongue-tie or inverted nips or something.. obviously not everyone is able to for many reasons and some don't like to but if positioning is right baby is usually born knowing exactly what to do and it falls into place after a few weeks.
and.. (this is why I was 'banned' from the peer support group) ... we are very fortunate that if it doesn't work for your family for whatever reason you have a safe alternative with clean water and formula.. a choice not available in many parts of the world.. you shouldn't torture yourself with thoughts of failure.. you do what is best and you are the best judge of that noone else. I was banned because this is what I said to a mum who was struggling to feed her baby after 8 weeks and she was miserable, baby was miserable and I just hugged her and asked what she wanted to do and said to do that then.. I was supposed to force her continue.. a month later they were both happy and thriving on formula, lovely to see!
So long as your baby is being fed it doesn't matter whether it is breastmilk or formula they will do just fine.. a happy baby and happy parents are the most important thing!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I'm planning on BF - I've already looked into having a consultant come once baby is born at least once to help with latching etc as we don't have home visitors here.
My mum is looking into booking her flights, I've told her I'd prefer if she comes on her own, and she's going to book for the latest date I could deliver (42 weeks) and I think stay for 2 weeks which will be amazing. MIL also wants to come but I've told DH to leave it off until at least 6/8 weeks after til I'm a bit more comfy and more myself.
Been doing some serious nesting - going to tackle putting the wall decals up next in the nursery which is exciting! Tonight is date night so me and hubby are going to go see the new marvel film and I'm cooking pasta for dinner (my favourite)..
Need to do my GD test this week sometime, Doctor said to come in whenever I felt like doing it, providing I've fasted overnight and he'll do the test.. So I'll call up his office and see what morning he's free-ish to do it. I'd like to get it out of the way ASAP..094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

My front room is sparkled.. and the hallways.. and the stairs... I'm feeding the troops and then beating the back room into submission. I've washed everything in sight, fixed the new doorbell, binned the old one.. eyed up the paint for the hallway and decided I want to decorate the middle room and get a new carpet before the small arrives..
I am NOT nesting!
