  • Ooooh Lemon not long now, it's so exciting!!!

No Pig the midwife didn't do any checks but now I am thinking I should get checked for anemia, I know every area is different but who am I best seeing? the doctor/nurse or go to the hospital? (midwife is only in my surgery on Thursdays) plus if it's needles involved I think only the nurse can do that at my surgery so then do I bypass the doctor? so many questions!!

Skint, I had bloods done at the antenatal clinic but I had a form from MW to do it (28wk test). Speak to MW and she should let u know what to do. Maybe gp can do form for you too.

skint you could ring the mw and ask if she will do it on thursday or ask the gp receptionist what they suggest. My surgery demand you speak to the GP and get a form thing and then make an appointment with the nurse to get bloods done.. usually a week or 2 later.

Erm, what do contractions feel like?

I've had cramping every 15 minutes or so since I got home. Thought I might have, er, needed the toilet at first but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Could these just be braxton hicks?

Well, I did freak out quite a bit as they went on for hours and were in a regular pattern. So we called hospital who recommended hot water bottle, and giving it another 45 minutes (as I'd only just taken some paracetamol). They still continued so I called the main hospital as instructed and they advised to take a hot bath, and if they continued or became more frequent , lost my mucus plug, or leaked waters, then I was to go in.

Thankfully the bath did the trick. Lol at least I have a better idea of what braxton hicks are and what to expect when real thing happens now.

Yikes Euro! That is encouraging me to pack my hospital bag this weekend! I didn't think BH hurt?

Despite being 12 days overdue last time, I thought my mild stomach ache was from eating too much. In hindsight it was probably early and mild contractions as my waters broke about 3 hours later.

Hope they ease off for you

All the info online is a bit conflicting. Some say they do, others say they don't. Some say they are just 'uncomfortable', which is usually medical speak for 'they hurt, but not as much as real contractions'.

All I know is, they hurt. Not screaming painful, but painful. They stopped last night anyway and haven't come back, so must have been braxton hicks.

I think they are uncomfortable.. like cramps when you have a stomach bug at worst.. they often leave me feeling sensitive and bruised for a day or 2. I've had very few with this one thankfully.

But believe me, if they were real contractions you do know the difference! I had other symptoms with real contractions too.. a dragging feeling in the tops of my legs or bottom of my back, a show, leaky waters, loose stools, I couldn't eat, I just felt like there was no room for food.

I also found BHs are really regular but actual contractions aren't.. but I do tend to do things all wrong anyway.
