Oh I know! That's what I don't understand. Why is it that when you're pregnant people think they can treat you worse than if you weren't pregnant?!
OH's family just irritate me. SIL hadn't spoken to me since the week before she found out I was pregnant until last week and only asked what branded baby clothes we wanted and never once asked how I was doing! Oh and she invited herself to the hospital when I give birth which I told her she wouldn't be doing that. I have a feeling I'll be getting the midwives to turn people away..Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

I give bump touchers a glare! Even had people in public pressing their head on my stomach to talk to baby...hello?! As for visitors, going to put most people off for at least a couple of weeks. Parents will find out after we've had our skin to skin and bonding time. I do not want disturbed in that time!0

Definitely get the MWs to turn visitors away if you're not up to it Lulu, we had all 3 sets of parents visit in hospital the day after my EMCS, and it was far too much. I felt so poorly by the time the last set left, and then it was the end of visiting hours and DH had to go home, so I was left on my own to cope.
If we end up in hospital again this time, I'm going to say I don't want any visitors until we get home I think. Hopefully we'll be at home though, and I won't feel so grim! I'd still like a day or two to ourselves to adjust, but we're under a bit of time pressure as DH's dad and stepmum are only in the country for 2.5 weeks from 18th March and then head back overseas so they'll want to see as much of baby as possible before they go I'm sure, and if we let them come but not DH's mum she'll have a meltdown
3 days left at work, w00t! :j so fed up and massive now, and been suffering with insomnia so feeling like a zombie this morning. Not slept since 3am, zzzz. I had it really badly with DD, so relieved it's only the odd night just now, but it's so frustrating.Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Don't know how your doing it Littlemoog. I'm so uncomfortable now, definately made the right choice about finishing work at 37 weeks. My midwife offered to sign me off work but I was already done. I've had a pretty easy pregnancy so far so the pain is a bit of a shock lol. My MIL would be waiting outside the door if I let her but I won't tell either parents until I'm ready to be visited. As for other friends and family, I will let them know but politely invite them when i'm feeling ready, certainly not straight away. I think that's family time.0

Congratulations Pootle. Lovely news. Hope you are both well.
I am going against the grain again and at the moment can't wait for visitors. Especially my mum! We live 130 miles from my parents and 180 miles from DH parents so will be calling them when I go into labour. I really want my mum to be one of my birth partners so if baby could comply so that she can be there that would be perfect! DH is a massive wimp when it comes to anything blood, needle, hospital related so don't think he will even be in the room when baby is born!
We have no relatives where we live and only a few friends so won't be getting a lot of visitors anyway.0 -
Congrats Pootle!!
I would probably welcome visitors with both arms if they were from far away. Problem is OH's parents (and mine, but I can tolerate mine) live 5 miles from us and as we live in a town centre they use our street for free parking then come and go as they please!
I've just shared something on Facebook called "Etiquette rules to follow when visiting a new mum" - hopefully it gets some reads, but if it doesn't I'll just re-share it and write something like "totally agree! I feel sorry for new parents who have to deal with bad manners!" :rotfl:Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

Congrats Pootle!
My parents live far away, but I still don't want my Mum there as she will do my head in. The only person I want there is my husband. Even if my Mum is told when I go into labour, she'll drive me crazy from afar with constant text messages asking how I am, am I OK, have I given birth yet, oh it's been a long time now, shouldn't you have had a C-section already?, you're not bleeding out are you?, etc etc etc. She'd do all of this whilst harassing my Dad to get in the car and drive her down here asap. And she'd probably post updates about it all on FB too (the last thing I want!). So, she won't be told until baby has actually arrived. That way, she doesn't do manic communication to us every 5 minutes, or updating facebook and she and Dad can make their way down at a more leisurely and relaxed pace.
My in law's are far more relaxed about it, thankfully. My MIL and her husband are actually on holiday a week or two before my due date I think it is, as it was already booked. As my MIL says 'if you give birth whilst we're away, then we'll just meet her and have cuddles once we get back'February wins: Theatre tickets0
