No worries sweetilemon, few people realise that you can still be entitled to childcare vouchers when on mat leave with your employer having to foot the cost as smp cannot be deducted from.

Glad to hear mil is back home Diamond, fingers crossed baby gets a wiggle on, but is considerate enough to time it during the day to make it easier all round x

Well done Rambosmum on getting that painting done. Another option could be a local pet walker/cat sitter? I had one on standby to come in and feed our cat the first time round just in case (didn't end up using her in the end as was all done and dusted very quickly). Glad that your boiler was ok

Baby has some days with more movement than others but I can't figure out if I am doing something different or not. On the lesser days, I still get over 10 episodes of movement through the day so not worried as such. Would just prefer baby to be more set if you like as am 30 weeks now... said to OH this morning - only 9 weeks to go now! Eek single figures!

That is really interesting saffagal, not something I would have thought of. It's my first child so not relevant this time around but I will keep it in mind for the future.

Taken the cat to our new home for the first time, he seems bewildered and keeps hiding behind the fridge. Felt so guilty not letting it into the bedroom but start as we mean to go on, don't want it in the bedrooms when the baby arrives.

Saffagal I really have to take time out at night to sit and wait for movements. If I'm on the go all day I realise I've not noticed any. Baby seems to wake up about 5pm and can feel them on and off until about midnight but if I'm busy and standing/ walking around I don't really feel them.

Thanks for the welcome all. This is first of me getting back on here, had good days and not so good. My b.P has been high, despite consultant putting me on meds and increasing the dosage, which is making me wander round like I'm sleep-walking.

Littleskintdragon - both my previous births were early - 37wks and 38wks, so was hoping this one would be around now, I'm 38+3 today. My consultant discussed doing a sweep if my b.p stays high, but I never get the same consultant, so they've all different opinions. If it's still up at my next appointment then I will bring it up.

Had an urge to nest today, now my lower back is sore, feeling satisfied though. :) Hospital bag finally ready too, It's only taken me about 6 weeks to complete.

Saffagal - I had the same concern re movements. My baby's movements suddenly changed, probably in my early 30 weeks stage, which worried me a bit. MW said it was because my baby had probably had a growth spurt and had less room to move, so movements would feel different. She's now jumping around loads, but it's agony when she pushes hard down below. Keeps moving to back to back position, which ive heard makes labour even more painful! I'm so dreading this labour, as I've been so sore down below.
Hopefully she'll turn around yet fx.

Diamond Orchid - glad your MIL is home and improving. I'm having same anxiety about where the kids will be when I go into labour. I was hoping they would be finished school for Christmas, which isn't until Friday, but I know we'll sort something out. Got a few family members who can take kids, depending where they'll be.

Weight loss the old style way challenge - 7/14lbs :j

Thanks, we're all going to see her tomorrow.

    Welcome to the thread :D
  • Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Sounds like you haven't got long to go horse76. We haven't had a birth announcement on here for a little while so keep us posted!

Sweetilemon, good idea to start the cat as you mean to go on. Dreading having to start keeping mine out of the bedroom. They just scratch at the doors, and one of them can open doors if he is persistent enough, so not really sure how I am going to do it yet.

Starting my hlaf days today so will be finishing at 12! Yippee! Only have 9 more half days left and I am outta here!

Growth scan and consultant appointment next week. The last consultant appointment was really patronising, and made me feel like a naughty fat girl for getting pregnant, despite her saying straight afterwards that my BP was fine, I don't have GD, and I have only put on 3kg. Said I will have to use the labour ward (which I knew), and that they want to monitor me the whole time (I don't mind as long as I can remain active), and I will have to have the injection for the placenta delivery. I didn't know about the last one. I don't mind doing what is best for the baby as they know more than I do, I just wish they weren't so patronizing in the way they talk to you. I am a grown up, a scientist and I can handle long words and don't need to be spoken to like a child. Honestly, it was like being called into a headmasters room. Put me in a really foul mood for a few days, and I am dreading the next one.

Ironically, my sister started her first pregnancy with a healthy BMI that allowed her to use the birth centre, but in the end of the pregnancy weighed more than I do now as she put on a few stone, but I cant use the birth centre pools as they said they wont be able to lift me out. Go figure!

They must deal with so many stupid people each day that they revert to treating everyone like they haven't a clue. Really frustrates me.

We haven't a hope in hell of keeping the cats out of the bedroom - one can open the door with ease, he slips a paw under the door and lifts it so it pops open, and if we put something there to block it he just jumps at the handle until he grabs it. I suspect when baby comes that they'll scarper anyway and will take a few months to grace us with their presence at night.

I'm sooo tired now. It was our anniversary yesterday, we went out for a lovely meal, got home at 9 and I went to bed! My pelvis was hurting as I'd done a bit too much lifting and standing during the day so certainly wasn't in the mood for much ;) anyway.

Slept dreadfully, woke up at 3.30 and didn't get back to sleep. Went to the loo loads yesterday and during the night and now it hurts when I go so have booked a Drs app, I'd normally ride out a UTI with mega amounts of water but worried as I'm so close to the end of the pregnancy. Today's get up was really really hard, but only one more until mat leave! Yay.

Upstairs of the house is now downstairs, ready for carpets fitting on Wednesday and in true money saving style I've bought hubby's xmas pressie off ebay - an electric piano, saved about £50.
  • Morning everyone, hope you've all had a lovely weekend? We've been so busy doing stuff in the house and getting ready for Xmas I've barely been on here.

Today should have been my section, but growth scan last week showed that he'd had a little growth spurt and gone over the 10th centile so they decided to let him bake a bit longer, booked in for a week tomorrow now (he's still breech and showing no signs of turning!) and I'm dreading being kept in on Xmas day.

Was up half the night with awful heartburn, still feeling groggy, not sure how I'm going to cope with night feeds!

Got another Doppler scan on weds but assuming everything is still ok on that, they'll just sorting out my pre-op stuff I think! Getting nervous now! x

They may *want* to monitor you the whole time, but you don't have to consent - there's a lot of debate about whether continuous monitoring is useful - it's not been shown to improve outcomes over intermittent monitoring with a handheld Doppler, and is known to increase interventions, and although they say you can be mobile, if they keep losing the trace on the day you may find yourself confined on/near the bed. http://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-based-fetal-monitoring/

A quick google pulled up this document http://usir.salford.ac.uk/30944/3/Respectful_care_for_women_with_a_high_BMI._Dignity_in_Childbirth_Forum_paper16th_October_2013__SDavies.pdf with advice on best practice for high BMI mothers - they specifically recommend avoiding CFM! Something to think about before your next consultant appointment. All the things they told you they would want are their recommendations, you can decide whether to accept or decline any aspect of care that is offered to you. They don't always make that obvious in discussions in my experience, although they are supposed to be giving you enough information to make an informed decision.

I had CFM with my DD as I was induced (it's indicated then, as baby more likely to be distressed by the process), and they couldn't get a good trace if I didn't stay still on the bed, which led to an epidural, and then a C-section. I intend to decline this time if labour begins spontaneously, and opt for intermittent monitoring by the MW unless there's cause for concern. I'm a lot more prepared to challenge hospital recommendations/policies this time around, as I feel my induction led to my c-section, and I was never offered the alternative of just waiting for labour to start with additional monitoring. It was very much, "you're 42 weeks, you must come in for induction now" with no discussion of the risks/benefits etc. I wish I'd been a bit more clued up on my rights and the evidence behind the policies. Might not have changed the outcome, but I wouldn't have been going into it blind.

    Hope everyone is ok :)

I'm 27 weeks now, and feeling really exhausted. Went for my 28 week bloods today, as I was also due a thyroid levels check, lots of appointments for me in the next 10 days! Almost hoping the bloods might show something up, as I feel so rubbish! I had a couple of days off sick last week as I was just so exhausted and low, but it doesn't seem to have helped much. Bring on the Christmas break!

    CONTRACTION MASTER TIMER

Please post your birth stories here when you have time/energy

Thought I would update this list as I forgot to add myself!

I managed to teach until 32 weeks and am now "enjoying" my 3rd week on maternity leave. I had a horrible cold the first week (and STILL feel rough), then DS was poorly the second week. Hoping to at least be lurgy free in time for the birth!

Having had quite an easy first 32 weeks of twin pregnancy, these last two weeks have exhausted me. I have acid reflux, which seems to have triggered my asthma, and then this endless supply of snot which is not helping. Did I mention back ache, and hip ache...?

Still, soldiering onwards and upto 22 days to go (induction booked for 5th Jan) if these babies don't decide to make an exit prior to this date.

I have opted to try for a natural birth, as the girl is head down and engaged. Boy is breach, but the position of the second baby isn't overly relevant with twins as once the first one is out, the 2nd has plenty of room to turn round to escape!

I am terrified of giving birth, but the pros/cons for natural birth (for the babies) outweight those for a c-section. The main one being that going down the birth canal helps remove the fluid from their lungs, so they are less likely to spend time in intensive care.

Obviously if twin nearest cervix decides to change to transverse or breach, I will have to have a c-section.

LittleMoog, I felt exhausted around 28 weeks, and my bloods showed really low iron levels. A month later and some yucky tablets that make your poo go black, and I feel a lot better, and can even stay awake until 10pm if I try!!

Am looking at my long list of things to do, but cannot quite muster up the energy to do them! Think I might have a cup of coffee and watch some TV before waddling down to pick up DS from school.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
