  • Not read back yet, just an update before I have my bath and will read back later.

Had my 38 week consultant appointment and scan. Baby is far down in pelvis, though they can't measure how engaged she is. I knew she had gone further as been having more pains etc.
She is measuring large - currently 9lbs 12oz! So on track to have a 10.5lb approx baby if born near due date.
I have asked midwife to book in for a sweep in next week or so, and if nothing happens then I will go in to be induced on 21st.
Quite scared of induction as hate internals and find them painful.
I am hoping she comes sooner!

So all good, I obviously just grow huge babies

It's so close Diamond Orchid, how exciting. Hope all goes well. I do wonder how accurate those measurements can be but if that's correct, wow - goodluck :-) a healthy baby.

Yey! Finally got maternity confirmation from both workplaces. I'm taking 52 weeks + 6 weeks holiday and 39 weeks in my second job, apparently not entitaled to any accured holidays in that work because it's zero hour. Better than no pay at all so very pleased. So excited to know I won't need to go back to my second job after a couple of months which I was dreading ( not the work just leaving my baby). The unpaid period will be tough but you only get this time once, I'm sure it'll be worth the sacrifice.

    How's everyone getting on?

    Hope your well diamond orchid.

    Glad you got confirmation sweetielemon.

I've still not heard from my work, and I leave next Tuesday!

I've got a day off today and so far have done a food shop and been to b&q for paint. Just got back in bed with porridge, going to have a nap then paint the nursery.

Our carbon monoxide detector keeps bleeping. It's in the cupboard with the boiler and it stops when we take it out so had transco out, they can't find any carbon monoxide but told us not to use the boiler until it's been serviced so scheduled a service for this afternoon which is a bit of a pain but better than no heating or hot water or dying!

Afternoon ladies, hope that we're all well?

Baby's movements are quite uncomfortable sometimes at the moment! With LO she gave me a bruise from kicking so hard in one spot and seems like this little one is aiming to do the same as big sister.

I have 6 days left at work and can't wait to finish even though all those days are half days. Feeling very unmotivated to do actual work; in part because I am no longer seeing patients just doing managerial tasks. Found out yesterday that our service is being externally audited in Feb with all staff having to attend an interview. What a pity it is the week I will be having baby - am definitely busy that week.

Moved LO into her new "big girl" bedroom and bed last night; she helped me move her clothes, groclock and snuggy toys and books yesterday afternoon. Going to bed was just as per usual and she slept for almost 12 and a half hours so I call that a successful move! Will give her a couple weeks in her new room then change the cot back into a cot and set it up for Baby. Although baby will be in with us initially, I didn't want her to feel as though she was being pushed out of the smallest bedroom hence doing it now.

Our payroll has apologised and are apparently resending my mat pay schedule without the pay being annualised.

Glad that you got your confirmations through sweetilemon - it is such a relief getting your formal acknowledgement.

Rambosmum, hope that you get your confirmation through sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed your boiler gets easily sorted this afternoon.

Glad things are well Diamond, and fingers crossed baby decides to arrive imminently to avoid induction.

Hope everyone has a good day x
  • That's worrying about the carbon monoxide Rambosmum, hope it gets sorted so your not in the cold for long! Reminds me I need to buy those alarms, not had gas in our flat so all new to me. Hope you get your maternity confirmation soon, tbh I was a bit of a crazy pregnant lady - think both HRs got back to me to stop me bugging them! Lol.

Saffagal do you mean your pay is normally annualised and your maternity is based on your full pay rather than annualised? I was wondering that about mine but thought id hang off with more questions for HR for now. I didn't get a breakdown of what I'll be paid, just a standardised letter stating 90% for 6 weeks etc.

Saffagal well done for your enthusiasm painting - not sure if I'd have the energy on maternity! My OH has been doing the DIY while I clean. 12 1/2 hrs for the first night in the big girl room is amazing!
  • Sweetilemon, I am entitled to occupational mat pay on top of SMP. You can choose to have the omp spread equally over 12 months rather than paid out over the 26week period they pay it (8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay). As I claim childcare vouchers I definitely don't want mine spread evenly as they can deduct my vouchers from omp but not SMP. This way when I drop to smp only and the 13weeks unpaid, my employer will still pay my vouchers but without deducting it from my pay as it is a contractual non cash benefit so has to continue to be paid if I choose to remain in the scheme.

It also means I don't lose any occ mat pay should I return to work early.
  • Ahhh I see...sorry, wasn't being nosey! That's a good package anyway. At least you were on the ball enough to sort it out, these things can be complicated, if your not savvy, I'm sure many people lose out by not understanding.
  • Thanks all. Not been able to book a sweep with my midwife yet as she is on annual leave and apparently she is the only one at the surgery! I rang the hospital triage and they said she will be back Monday and leave her a message, but if she doesn't call by 4pm I need to call them back.

To be honest I am quite scared of the prospect of a sweep  The consultant said he was going to check how things were progressing at my appointment this week, but for some reason he shoved both fingers straight up me and caused a LOT of discomfort and I didn't want him to continue. Maybe because I have had a previous large baby he thinks I am loose down there! But couldn't be further from the truth and my cervix is tilted, which causes pain during smears.
So I would prefer my normal midwife to do it rather than a stranger!

Last night I had some awful sharp, stabbing pains in my lady bits. Also had some Braxton hicks. I thought something was going to happen, but they must have tailed off as I fell asleep. Just had one further pain today, but a little achy. I really want things to start naturally.

My MiL is improving and has been allowed to go home. Which is wonderful, but the anxiety in me is now back. They can look after DS which is the main thing, but FiL was going to stay at ours and look after our dog and other pets as well. MIL can't stay here as we have stairs and probably not a good idea when she has just been discharged. I am in a flap about it but husband says not to worry and things will work out. I guess they will. Luckily hospital isn't too far away so if hub has to pop back to let dog out he should be able to, I just hope he doesn't miss the birth!

I'm glad she's back home Diamond Orchid.

I haven't even thought about what to do with the cats (one is on medication 3 x daily and we have no cat flap) so thanks for the reminder.

Painted baby's room yesterday, needs a final coat and then wallpapering. Had a very productive day in the end.

No carbon monoxide but a fixed radiator and a new CO detector. Yay.

Penultimate full day at work today! Can't believe it.
