Hi everyone, I've just come over from the 12-24 weeks thread  Should have come over last week but it's been mad busy with work and whatnot - 25 weeks today and had a midwife appointment this morning. All seems well at the moment! :)

I've not even started thinking about a birth plan yet!

  • I didn't do a birth plan last time, I gave birth in a midwife led unit so there wasn't a great deal to have on a birth plan as such. I'm hoping for the same again so if I did have a birth plan it would be - gas and air wanted, injection for placenta and vit k for baby like last time, birth pool wanted if possible and not bothered about a episiotomy if it's needed. The big thing this time for me is I want help Breast feeding as soon as possible after baby being born. It was a while after with my son and I don't think that helped. Also would like proper help not some midwife grabbing my Breast and shoving it in my babies mouth and then saying I'll be back in 5. No help whatsoever when he then came off as soon as she shut the door and I couldn't get him back on, she didn't come back for another hour. And I felt rude buzzing the buzzer haha. What about everyone else?

  • I'm having a caesarean at 39 weeks so any hope of a plan goes out of the window for me, they'll do as they please!!

Breast feeding went really well last time, an saved me a small fortune. I know not everyone is as lucky as that though, and uf id had troubles i couldnt have lept doing it.

Hopefully you'll have more supportive midwives and hospital staff this time, and if not keep buzzing them until they do help! That's what they're there for.
Still here..... but working on that!

Sounds like you're making fab progress rambosmum, we've got a few bits downstairs to finish off and then it's time to get cracking on the 'nursery'.

Diamond Orchid, good news about your GTT but I'm sorry your pelvic pain is so bad. Mine isn't so bad during the day, the worst time is in bed at night, but I seem to be in the habit of turning very slowly and with my knees together now, so at least I'm not crying out and scaring DH to death anymore! :o

One of my biggest worries about delivery has always been the possibility of forceps. Obviously with gestational diabetes the risk of a bigger baby and as a result, interventions, is higher. I'm just trying not to think too much about it yet. Has anyone started, or planning on doing, a birth plan?

Yeah it's especially bad at night for me too, and I am having trouble sleeping. Doesn't help needing multiple visits to the loo!

I haven't done a birth plan. I wanted a water birth last time, but my pelvis meant I couldn't get in the lovely bath they ran :( I was gutted.
Also I didn't want an epidural, forceps or epiosotomy - but ended up with all of these! He was a very large baby and had to come out somehow.
Sometimes I wish they had give me a c-section, but I also fear these.

I'd LOVE a water birth but think it unlikely this time round too - I would be grateful for a natural labour and aim to keep more active this time round.

Forgot to add, my little lady was head down at my last appointment on Friday. I thought she was as felt more pressure down there.

Still gutted about the no water birth tbh, but midwife said there's no reason why I can't have an active labour so that reassured me a little. I will be doing a birth plan, if just to help my DH remember what I want in case I'm too zoned out to remember! I've looked at templates online but I don't want it to sound too 'instructional' (I'm well aware that anything could happen - I don't want to appear naïve!) but at the same time I want to be clear about what I do & don't want.

I really want to breastfeed too and am already worried it won't go smoothly, I've been reading up on it as much as possible in case there isn't much useful support available in the hospital.

    Welcome frozenpenguin! :hello:

I had no end of help with breast feeding whilst in hospital so don't be afraid to ask. They told me to buzz each time I latched her on so they could check her latch etc. They write it in your notes too and I'm sure it ticks some of their boxes so they are more than happy to help!
We had a breast feeding support worker come out the day after we arrived home too which was really useful.

That sounds amazing, exactly what I'm after. I think I washould a little niave last time, just kind of went with the flow and thought the midwives would go all out to help me breastfeed. I'll be a lot more prepared this time definitely. It's nice to hear of all the support out there though. Thank you x

My cars broken. Like properly off to the scrapheap in the sky broken. Just what we don't need! So need to go car shopping this weekend. I'm sat in my car waiting for the recovery truck to pick me up. I just want to cry. But I don't want to be the pregnant hormonal girl the driver tells every back at the depo about!
