I'm convinced the nipple shields make your nipples feel / look / be more similar to the bottle teat and it makes switching between the two easier allowing partners to do dream feeds etc (also great for pain, cracking, bleeding etc), I have mine ready to pack in my hospital bag just in case.....

A little update from me, I saw the consultant yesterday and due to a number of reasons he thinks going down the v-bac would be "foolhardy" so I'm scheduled for a c-section on Tuesday at 39.5 weeks.

Hope everyone else is doing well and having a good start to the weekend.

That is great you managed to find a way to bf aunty pickle. My daughter was so sleepy after c section and was taken away for a while too so took us a couple of days to get hang of bfing but was worth it.

Eek Janed are you all ready?

Debatable !! ready in that we have everything left over from last time around so there can't be much else that we need.

Not ready as it's been in storage including two house moves and a year in a garage for the last 2.5 years and is spread around various boxes and probably needs a good wash. Really ought to pack my hospital bag too !! still, have all weekend to do that.

arghhhhh....... I currently have 6 different baby name websites open and am trying to decide which I like !

I had a shortlist of 7, just crossed of 3 but added 2 new ones - this is so hard ! it was so much easier for DD1, we knew her name as soon as we knew she was a girl and I pretty much knew what this one would be if it were a girl too. But he's not and I don't know and now I have less than 24 hours to decide

Good luck finding a name Janed! I think we have a first name but struggling with middle name. Found it much easier first time too.

Having a day off work today and DD has gone to nursery so been doing my best to chill out as feeling tired and achy. Got 3 more days at work then maternity leave yay.

Hi jedi, feeding has been really tough. Combination of diamorphine, forceps and lots of stitching afterwards meant that a sleepy baby wasn't put anywhere near me for several hours so unfortunately missed that vital window of catching the natural sucking reflex.
He then basically refused the breast and I was expressing to bottle-feed - which just kept the cycle going.
Came home and decided to use nipple shields. Best thing ever!! Don't know why the "official" line is to advise against them. Anyway, we are now feeding direct from the breast (with the shields) - hooray! It's been a long hard slog.

hope things progress for you and you get your stress-free home-birth!

Well done for sticking with it, those early weeks/ months even can be difficult. The only way my boy latched as well was with a nipple shield on day 5 after birth. I was expressing and cup feeding before then. I managed to get him directly on the breast from6-8 weeks old and then fed him to 19 months.

An update from me have had some very mild irregular contractions over last 3 days, Sunday evening being the most noticeable. 40+4 today feeling ok to wait for baby but getting frustrated and irritated by other people's comments so I am biting back in the nicest way hehe
