New series of One Born Every Minute on CH4 in 1/2 an hour - never watched it before and wondering whether to brave it now?

People keep mention OBEM to me at work but I'm not sure if I want to watch it or not. I thought maybe it was just me! :rotfl:

    Hello

I've come to 'properly join' you now if that's OK? Am 24+1, 'little HB' is a boy! I'm already on your lists.

Will read back as I dry my hair and nod off, but wanted to say hello lol! Not watching OBEM, waiting until OH can watch it with me on Wednesday night... he's in for the shock of his life ha x
  • We shall be watching OBEM, have recorded it to watch now we've finished dinner.

I am back from toysrus and now the proud owner of a Winnie the Pooh nappy stacker, changing mat, and light shade :D thanks Lush for mentioning this!!!

Also a tiny confession, whilst OH and I were in there we got slightly drawn in by the Winnie the Pooh nursery set on offer at the moment....and may have ended up ordering it :):):):)
Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

  • We don't have a cat but we do have a dog and I am worried about how he will interact with the baby.

We got a behaviourist in and he told us to get a crying doll to introduce to him. Not only will he start to get used to the sound of crying but we can also start to train him to interact with the baby without risking the baby. For example, training him to stay away from the baby when we are changing nappies on the floor etc. He also said that before we bring baby inside for the first time to first wrap the doll in a blanket that has the babies scent on it and introduce this to the dog before introducing the actual baby. Doggie can safely get a good sniff of baby without me worrying too much.

We have also brought a pheromone diffuser from amazon as apparently these are amazing at calming dogs down and making them feel a lot more secure in their environment. I know they do these for cats as well so might be worth looking into.

I know these are based around a dog but they might help with introducing your cat to the baby as well.

I hope this helps. It's kind of comforting to know that I am not the only one that worries about having pets around the baby. But I guess the worry just makes me much more careful about safety xx
  • OMG I am in the twenties!!! How did that happen?? I suddenly feel a huge need to redecorate the house and buy lots of storage furniture

Definately not alone. I love my dog and he is so loving and kind and gentle at home but he doesn't like being taken out his comfort zone or getting too close to strangers which is fine.. problem is that health visitors are a stranger to him. We had a behaviourist in ( not bloody cheap!) and she was confident that he will be fine just not to put him in any situations that would upset him ie don't MAKE him be in the same room as health visitor etc.

He does love kids as I have neices and nephews but he is very boisterous so will need to be careful, he doesn't jump on me anymore but is still a big (German shephers) puppy at 18 months. Will be like having two babies ! I grew up with a dog and I'm fine... with ground rules all should be fun. My dog was my best friend throughout my childhood ( I did have actual human friends but they aren't furry :p)

Just watched OBEM... I wish it were me already!
  • My job involves lots of home visiting, and I usually ask about dogs when I phone to arrange an appointment-I'm not a doggie person with dogs I don't know and most of my clients have staffys and scary dogs. I say that I'm just a wee bit wary around dogs I don't know and ask if the dog can be put in another room-I have had too many dog incidents to be shy about it anymore!

It makes me more comfortable if the dog isn't in the way when I have people in the house, especially as he is big and hairy and as you say, not everyone is a dog person and dogs tend to pick up on that. So he goes in the kitchen behind the baby gate or in his crate with a toy to keep him occupied. Even though I am a dog person - I don't like going to someones house and their dog jumping all over me so certainly wouldn't expect someone to have it here.
