Oh, I didn't know this-I've been worrying about the cat trying to get in to baby stuff, will give this a shot, thanks.

Congratulations Birdie, another lovely big boy x

Congratulations Smartcat, sorry it didn't go to plan, and I'm glad you are recovering well from your surgery x

another option is a cat net/insect net but we are going to try the balloons first and see how that goes, I don't think cat would deliberately harm but he does like to snuggle in and would worry he would snuggle to close to babies face so don't want him trying - he can keep snuggling with us lol!
  • Smartcat massive congratulations again :) hope you recover well from your op and that baby continues to take the bottle well xxx

Con I'm not a cat owner so excuse the massively stupid question - can't you just leave your bedroom door closed overnight so as to avoid the cat getting into your bedroom and therefore possibly climbing into the crib?

I really want a cat but OH hates them and has banned me from getting one :(

Our cats main room is our bedroom and I'm planning on having the baby in with me for at least the first few months. We've only just stopped the cat from scratching and biting us. I am so anxious about him interacting with a tiny baby.
I'm hoping once he's been spayed he will be even calmer, but he is an indoor cat, so prone to bouts of hyperactivity.
I'd not heard the balloon thing before - any other super kitty tips?

    :D

The cat isn't generally on our room, we had to change the handles to round ones as he jumps and swings on the handle of the other doors til the door opens-he can also open and raid the fridge!
I have heard of people using Feliway to help calm the cats, as having a new baby in the house might stress cats out. I don't think the cat would do anything naughty on purpose either, but he does like to know what is going on, and can be a bit of a grumpy old man sometimes!

We could but our cat is used to free access and would howl outside the door , had we thought ahead then perhaps we we wouldn't have given him free access but baby wasn't planned lol.

We also have a dog but he gets restricted access using baby gates , some of our doorways are open planned so we can't just shut the door over so whilst the stair gate keeps doggy out, our cat can still get through.

Have been told crumpled up tin foil also helps keep cats away from baby items

I think I'm going to get some feliway and adaptil for when baby arrives.

For the non pet people they are plug ins that mimic calming hormones( I think) that a mother cat/dog would give off and can help the animals settle and remain happy when there is a change in the household. My dog really doesn't like strangers, he settles after a bit but they stress him to begin with and we have used adaptil before. I was worried about how he would react when health visitor comes out but my MW said just put him in his crate then there is no need for anyone to worry and we can get on without any disruption. She said even the best behaved dogs can act adversely to a health visitor who is poking and prodding the baby so it's best to have them out the way.

Just with all the recent things going on reg dogs and babies I get paranoid ! I trust the dog but would never leave him alone with baby, or any child for they matter, he is an animal after all.

Finally rescheduled the health visitor appt!

Baby is sitting right in the middle of my bump tonight pushing the too of my belly button down and putting pressure across the front of my bump think I prefer her sitting all to the right!

Need to decide what I'm going to wear tomorrow for our little shopping/other team training session excursion...hmmmm what will fit?!
