My bump is now HUGE!!! All of my in-laws keep telling me that she is going to be a huge 10lb baby!! They are terrifying the living daylights out of me and everytime they say anything I want to punch them! Non of them have taken into account that I am only 4ft11 and there really is no space inside of me for her to grow. She has to grow out! Or at least that is what I am telling myself anyway. I have my 28 weeks midwife appointment later (even if I am 29 weeks) and I am going to ask her about it (again).
I felt like I have no room left either upwards but my midwife assured me there is
Still need to buy the bedding but I am so confused about it all. For example bumpers!! They are sold everywhere but they are apparently dangerous?? Also there are quilts are in every bedding set but I am meant to be using a sleeping bag thingy (can't remember their real name). I like the look of a co-ordinated set as it will really add a much needed colour boost to the bedroom. What is everyone else doing in terms of bedding? Any advice is very much welcome. xx
I wouldnt waste money on bumpers. I really dont know why they sell them anymore there are so many safety warnings on the net, in one place in the US they are now banned and some babies have suffocated in them. I think if you do get them it shouldnt be used until the baby is 6 months as by then they can obviously move about.
What we've done - as they were in a sale I think half this price, is buy these breathable ones just incase we have a baby who decides to bang their arms/legs up against the cot, however looking at it now I dont think it was really a necessary purchase. If our baby isnt like that Ill probably sell it or return to kiddicare as they have a year long return policy!

If you look at quilts online they generally also have a warning on them to say that they shouldnt be used before a certain age. For example this one says 12 months

So to start with you just need sleeping bags and cellular blankets or your moses basket might come with a coverlet.
Just check on the sleeping bags that they are for the right size weight, as some start at say 8 or 9lbs so you might need to just start with a blanket.
Weve bought some fitted sheets for the cot, but not putting it on for a while as will just get dusty as hoping to keep the baby in the moses basket in our room for as long as possible up to the 6 months they are supposed to be in with you, as no room for the cot in our bedroom.fireyfirenze wrote: »just a question for people that have already handed in their matb1 forms - I'm 23 weeks on Wednesday and have a midwife appointment next Friday (ill be 24+2 then) does anybody know if I'll be able to get my matb1 form there and then or if ill have to wait? work have said they will need it soon (before 25 weeks!) so I'm sort of in a quandry whether to just ask for it next week or ring up? I rang the centre this morning they said I needed a midwife appointment to get a form!
My drs wont give them out until 25 week appt, but all it is is the dr writing a couple of dates and signing it so you shouldnt need to wait for another appt if you have one at 24.
If your work knows you are pregnant it wont matter if they get it a bit late though, I think I gave mine into my work at 26 weeks. They will just say they need it then.0 -
Birdie and Lannieduck - congrats!0

We bought the full cot set from Toys R Us which includes bumpers - we've put them on but baby won't be in the cot for a while at first anyway. Another way of using them which I thought was quite good was to put them at the foot of the cot (especially if your cot just has open rails at the end) so when they are sleep feet-to-foot they can't kick their legs through************************************

Thanks all, I think I'm going to get the nappy stacker (already reserved for click and collect!), and the matching cot set is going on our list in case people ask us what to buy. I'll decide at some point when I put the bumper bit on but baby isn't going in the cot until 6 months anyway hopefully, so the bumper should be ok to use by then.
I'm really confused when it comes to sheets? I've just searched on kiddicare for sheets and they seem to have about 25 different ones? Flat/fitted or both? And they do separate sizes for Moses basket, cot/cotbed and travel cot but I can't see any for a swinging crib?
I'm so confused!!!! Is just either a flat or a fitted sheet sufficient or do I need both? What's the difference in using each? What sheet do I use for our swinging crib? Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

Re sheets - fitted will be MUCH easier to use, saves time and stops the sheet moving when baby starts wriggling. For a moses basket you can just use a pillow case though!
For the crib though it may be worth you getting some flat sheets (cot/cot bed size) that way you can just tuck in any excess and reuse them when baby is in a cot/cot bed. I'm not sure they do 'crib' size or at least ive never seen them, i am assuming they are smaller than a cot but bigger than a moses basket??0 -
Congratulations Birdie!!! Glad you managed to avoid the induction. He's going to be a cheeky little monkey making you wait until the 11th hour!0

We're not using bumpers, I think they look lovely but not willing to risk it as if anything was to happen I would never forgive myself. I have saw friends put photos on of their babies ( under 6 months) where they have used them but it's not for me.
My mum said it's not really new advice either, when she had us ( now 32,28,24 and 18) she was also advised against them.
Baby will be in moses basket for a bit so I am just going to put a sheet on the cot mattress and put balloons in the cot ( I'm not crazy- we have a cat and it says online that it's one of the best ways to make cat avoid wanting to sleep in the cot if it is filled with ballons before baby starts to sleep in it).
When baby is in cot will just get a nice fitted sheet and sleep bags, as much as cot sets look lovely, they are no use if they can't be used til a certain age.0 -
Congrats to Lannieduck, Kynthia and Birdie on their new arrivals. For those who havn't seen on the FB group Phoebe Rose was born on 19.2.14 at 13.18pm and weighed 6lb 9oz.
I was induced tuesday pm and started with tightenings that night. I was in agony all night as their idea of pain relief was 2 paracetamol. I tried to continue with my hypnobirthing but as my leg was in pot I couldnt change my position or get comfy.
By 5.30am I was sceaming (I'm very embarrassed about this bit, was told off by midwife) and I rang my hubby to come in much to the horror of the midwife. She examined me and things hadnt changed so the induction pessary was replaced.
Through the morning the pains got worse to the point where I had to beg for painkillers and eventually was allowed diamorphine which the mw took half an hour to get! by this point it was 11am and i was getting waves of pain which were increasing in intensity to a peak with 30-60 seconds of rest inbetween. The monitor said they couldnt possibly be contractions. I kept getting the urge to push so they examined me and I was 7cm and rushed down to labour ward!
By the time I got there I was 10cm and babys heart rate was dropping so they got me in stirrups and did an episiotomy. If I couldnt push her out the plan was for an attempt at ventouse suction then section but I got her out with some really good pushes.
Amazingly as soon as I felt safe in the delivery room and got some as and air I was a transformed woman. I laughed and joked between contractions, asked for updates on what was happening and felt amazing. My hubby says I went into work mode (I'm a nurse) and was chatting to the medical student about his placements.
Baby didnt feed for first 24 hours as she didnt suck very well and I wasnt really producing anything so the next day I was hooked up to a breast pump.
My ankle surgery was booked for friday so we made the decision to go onto bottle feeding as my husband and mum would be able to help with that plus I was getting stressed about her not feeding which wouldnt help.
I had my op friday and came home saturday night. Im still on crutches and not strong enough to tackle the stairs yet so we are camped out as a family in the living room. My hubby is being a star. Phoebe has been weighed for the first time today and she has maintained her birth weight- shes taking bottles really well with the amount increasing rapidly.
I didnt get the birth I wanted due to my circumstances and these impacted on my ability to manage things but shes here now and we take it one day at a time.April £5 a day challenge- £15.05/£1500 -

Oh, I didn't know this-I've been worrying about the cat trying to get in to baby stuff, will give this a shot, thanks.
Congratulations Birdie, another lovely big boy x
Congratulations Smartcat, sorry it didn't go to plan, and I'm glad you are recovering well from your surgery x0
