You're brave missy but I think it's time we need to accept the inevitable!

Aunty-Pickle wrote: »The thing is though, VEs may be "standard/normal/usual/common place" etc but I know of plenty of women who have had vaginal deliveries, assisted by "normal" midwives, who have declined VEs and so haven't had any. So they are not 100% for all vaginal births. There are actually several other methods of assessing the progress of labour that are well researched and documented.
It is, however, more their attitude that I am struggling with. I already suffer with anxiety and depression. This is one aspect of giving birth that is increasing my anxiety. I don't want a c-section.
If they had listened to and acknowledged my reasons (instead of dismissing them) and I had been able to have an open discussion with them, if they had offered to go away and read more about these other methods and speak with other midwives who may have experience etc.. if they had then come back to me and said something like "we have tried really hard to think how we can accommodate your preferences as we know this is really important to you. However, unfortunately we just don't feel that we have the appropriate level of knowledge (etc) to be able to manage your birth safely without doing VEs" - if they had said that then I would at least feel supported and could maybe engage in some discussion about how best to manage things.
The fact that they dived straight in with saying that I would have to have a c-section and that I am "refusing to co-operate" (that's a direct quote) is hardly sensitive, respectful or helpful.
Ah ok in that case please forgive my ignorance! I was going by my past experience and what friends and family have said. If there's a way to have a natural delivery without the need for internals then by all means your health professionals should definitely consider your wishes or at the very least hear you out and have a discussion about whether it's possible and if not why not. It does seem they have been very dismissive of you which will not help your state of mind. All I would perhaps say is please don't rule out a c-section completely. If the worse happens and there is an emergency, the health of you and baby is most important even if that means a section. I am also very much wanting a natural delivery and really wanting to avoid a section but have in the back of my mind that unfortunately it may happen.
I would agree that you need to keep talking to your midwives/consultants and trying to agree in the birth that you want, maybe print out your post from here and go armed with the research you've done. Don't let them bully if if what you want is available and do-able. Big hugs Aunty P.
As for me, I'm in a slight quandarybaby's movements have been hugely reduced since yesterday morning, I'm getting the very occasional tap but nothing like I normally do. Fizzy drinks and laying on my side (which baby normally hates!) hasn't worked, Chocolate last night helped a little bit but nothing all night or since 5am this morning when I've been awake deliberately monitoring. I don't really want to call the hospital and waste their time if nothing's wrong or I'm being over zealous, especially as we had a scan last week but I don't really want to leave it IFYSWIM. I'm thinking I might wait till ds has gone to preschool, OH is at work. I'll try a cold drink and hot coffee and if still nothing call the hospital. Just really don't want to waste their time if not needed

Always, nothing to forgive!
If a c-section was medically necessary then of course I would agree to it - I just don't understand why they think I should have a complex medical operation for potentially no good reason.
Anyway, I hope your baby is either moving a lot or, if not, that you have phoned triage or Day Unit or whatever. You won't be wasting their time - that's what they are there for. I had that recently and went in and it was because baby was in a funny position and probably kicking placenta (anterior) that I couldn't feel anything. Strapped up to monitors, heart beat was fine and then baby moved and suddenly my "movement monitor" was being clicked as normal! But they said I had done absolutely the right thing to get it checked out.

Always_Alone Don't know if you've already taken care of it or not, but never never never leave it alone if you think little one isn't moving enough or is moving too much! You ARE NOT wasting their time! More than likely your little one has turned a bit and is kicking a bit of your uterus that you cannot feel, but I'd rather you be safe and go get checked out. Please do!

Mrs TM, , after having an upset tummy and period pains on and off this morning and lack of movements I went into hospital this morning. I was hooked up and monitored (for over an hour after they initially said 15 mins), scanned and an internal exam to check cervix.
They said baby was fine and cervix was 'long and closed' but they want me back in for monitoring tomorrow.
Although I've been sent home, the print out from this morning showed a contraction and I'm thinking there's something else going on if they want me back again. OH thinks I'm reading waaaaay to much into it but I'm super paranoid as ds was born at 35 weeks and labour started with an upset tummy and period pains but we'll see what tomorrow brings!!
Thank you for the concern and encouraging words, much appreciated x0 -
Always_Alone I'm glad that they are taking good care of you! The contraction that was on your print out is probably a braxton hicks one. I ended up having 8 during the hour I was hooked up for monitoring the other night.
39 weeks tomorrow, and I started collecting colostrum in syringes this afternoon (it's a back up to do with some medication I'm on, probably won't be needed). We had a scan and another consultant appointment today, and my consultant happens to be on holiday this week. So I ended up getting a lecture on how 'risky' me choosing a home birth is (it's really not!). They made me make another appointment with my consultant next Monday (which means ANOTHER bus ride with sick people up to the hospital...) just to talk to her about it. She has already told me that she is perfectly happy with me having a home birth so long as my last gtt and scan came back clear, and they both have come back better than perfect, so I know she's just going to say 'go home, you're fine!' So, we are hoping that the baby comes before that appointment and I can just call and cancel it (and slightly so that I can think nah-nah, I did it anyway!). Someone telling me I shouldn't do something but being unable to give a concrete reason why (just in case doesn't count!) just makes me want to do said thing even more!
Anyway, send over labour vibes during the next week, we need this baby to come asap!0 -
Morning all,
Vibes coming your way mrs tm
Glad they are looking after you always_alone.
Welcome Krusty Louise.
We went pram shopping. Managed to get mamas and papas, mothercare and a babys r us visit out of DH.we rewarded ourselves with a Nandos! We have decided to go for the Mamas and papas zoom. Anyone else got any experience of it?
As far as gestational diabetes, i have just been monitoring my bloods an hour after eating. All levels have been pretty low. I have consultant visit tomorrow so we will see what they say. Probably just diet watching. Good thing is i get another scan. Looking forward to seeing little one again. Must remember to tell them I don't want to know the sex and ask for a picture of the feet. So cute.
Nursery had first lick of paint so all coming along.0 -
Thanks for your reply Mrs TM, I must say I envy your confidence! I wonder why the different consultant was being so contradictory? Oh well, good luck with going a few days early so you don't have to trek back to the hospital!
I'm 40+6 today and feeling like a whale! I think bump has dropped a little so I'm waddling a bit more.
The sunshine is out today so about to go for a nice long walk to try and get things moving!0 -
So I had the same problem I had last Friday, all last night. Finally got to sleep at 6:30, turned off my alarm but got woken up at 8:30 by carpet layer so Im back at work now a couple hours late again.
Works great and haven't even asked why I was late. They can probably see how tired I look!
Ive nearly completed everything I want to get done today so probably leave early and hopefully carpet guy would have finished by the time I get back home.
Must find energy to make Pancakes!!!!0
