Happy New Year to you all!
My NYE was a nice and chilled out one, consisting of a takeaway, DVD and then the fireworks on the TV. Had a bit of a moment when I realised that this time last year is the time when DH and I decided we would start trying, and now after many tears and times when we thought it just wouldn't happen this is the year we will become parentsIf the next 3 months go as quick as the last 6 then baby will be here before we know it, hence why I am now beginning 'Operation Baby!'
I've already started looking at sale stuff online to see if we can spot any bargains for the more expensive things we want but there is nothing newWill just have to use the vouchers we have and try to maximise the savings with those as much as we can by making multiple purchases, e.g. £5 off a £50 spend, £10 off £100 etc, also got a 10% off in a local baby shop and some Argos ones too so will just have to be clever in how we use them! Has anyone here spotted any bargains? I'm now currently writing a list of the 'essential items' and then checking off what we have or what we want, so it will all start to come together soon and hopefully I'll have a better idea of spending and budgeting
It's like wedding planning all over again
Lovely to hear from you Trixsie, enjoy your well deserved time off!
Aunty-Pickle - amazing news that you have been cleared for a 'normal' delivery
Thanks to those of you who responded with details of the antenatal classes - I should have guessed that its another postcode lottery! I think I'll have a look at the private ones in my area and make a note of prices and times in the meantime, but I'll wait until I see my midwife in 2 weeks to see what she says about the NHS ones first.0 -
After christmas is also the time our "operation baby" starts! We need to get the room decorated 1st, already got the paint & wallpaper just need to get it done, then the new carpet needs to be laid. Might pop down there on the weekend to arrange a date for fitting to give us a push to get the decorating done! Then once we can get the furniture in we can sort all of the stuff we've gathered over the last few months. There is a lot of nappies and packs of wipes but also quite a few outfit now so I want to be able to see exactly what we have got to know what we still need. I've got 7 weeks left in work & want the decoration & furniture in by then, partly so I'm not tempted to pt a wardrobe together on my own when I'm off but also so I can do the putting everything in it's place while I'm off!
The furniture we want is on sale in M & P, about £50 less than it is in their normal sales they seem to have quite often but we might pop down on the weekend to see if they ca offer any more discount in store, or any freebees to get us to buy there. No harm in asking!0 -
Mothercare have a furniture sale on atm, we've asked for vouchers for there for our wedding presents at the end of the month otherwise we'd be buying stuff lol failing that online4baby.com is very cheap altho I can't speak for the quality myself we were originally going to buy for and pram from their because we'd get more for our money. XxxDebt free finally :j
First house purchase ... 2018 :j0 -
Still here 40 +6
Midwife attempted a sweep on Wednesday, but it was more of a nudge, cervix didn't look ready at all. Not too fussed about waiting, but would prefer not to have an induction...
shorty1978 - really sorry for your loss - glad you were able to see your Nan at Christmas though.
Welcome Bubblepops  Will the staff come back to you soon on whether a water birth is possible, or decide nearer the time? I'm finding that the hardest thing to get my head around. I'd *like* a water birth, but I could end up with any scenario - C section, induction, epidural, 2 hour labour, 36 hr labour
How sweet your OH was getting emotional about the baby clothes :happyhear
£14 for your glider chair Aunty Pickle - wow! :money: We've bought things at the cheapest price we can, but had quite a few gifts and hand me downs too.
sulphate - it's great seeing them move isn't it? I think I'll miss that when I'm not pregnant, even though I will obviously see them moving even more clearly when they're here! :rotfl: It was very sweet of your friend to supply you with all the stuff you need for the "icky bits"!
x_missymoo_x my midwife forgot to tell us about the NHS antenatal classes, so only gave us the slots when I asked her. I did think I might see how they were before deciding whether to pay for NCT ones. Then I decided to go for NCT ones anyway, but the local class was fully booked. My main reason for going was to make friends with other parents locally, so there didn't seem any point going to classes 10 miles away. So we just ended up with 2 NHS classes, which were good. I've been looking at the sales online - not really seen any baby bargains - no better than other discounts there have been during the autumn anyway!0 -
Hi all, happy new year, sorry I've not been on in ages, I can't seem to get my head around the fact I'm due in less than three weeks. I'm wondering if that's because I don't finish work until I'm 38+2. Still need to pack my hospital bag, build the cotbed, finish washing baby's clothes and persuade baby to turn around so he isn't breech. Feels so strange because first time around I was all sorted by about 25 weeks, now I'm 37 weeks and can't seem to organise myself. Hopefully writing it all down will make me get off my backside xxPlanning to be debt free by 11/20. MFW Jan 2028 - [STRIKE]86700[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]83057.20[/STRIKE]

Still here too- was hoping for a birth announcement from you
9 days over today and still no signs- i'll be giving birth to a teenager at this rate!
Induction Sunday- spending my birthday in hospital. I'm so desperate to meet the little one now. OH is beyond impatient.
Off ouy for a bit of a walk- see if that kick starts anything.
Hello to everyone0 -
All the best for all you overdue ladies!
Hope you can get things moving soon!!!Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock0 -
Shorty, hopefully your walk kicks baby into action! How do you feel about the prospect of you sharing your birthday with little one?
Timeflies, glad you're not too fussed that baby is taking its time - I reckon I'd be going mad by now! Have you tried any of the old wives tales that apparently kickstart labour? And I'm intrigued as to why you don't want an induction...?
Lotti - you seem very laidback about your impending arrival! Although you said you had everything ready at 25 weeks last time so I don't feel too bad that I want to pack a hospital bag yet at 26 weeks:) Perhaps its because you've done it before and so it won't be that much of a shock as it probably was last time, plus I could imagine you have lots of stuff already. Will be interested to hear if you manage to turn him round though, perhaps one thing that maybe isn't under your control!
As for my 'operation baby', yesterday I wrote up a list on the laptop which DH kindly offered to print at work so that we can take it with us when go shopping, but then I realised I quite like writing things out by hand so I've just finished doing that, being a little obsessive and putting things into categories like clothes, bathing etc and having a separate page for each - 5 pages in total! Although not each page is fullDinner is in the oven so whilst I'm waiting for that I think I'm going to go up and start seeing what I can check off, its all getting very exciting

Well to start with I wasn't happy at all about the birthday thing-
Purely because I hate when mine is...... However I've kinda come around to it now. It might be nice to have a birthday buddy- would certainly be the best birthday gift ever
I love the sound of your list(s).
I always like handwritten notes- there is something a bit nicer about them lol. I didn't pack my hospital bag until about 36 weeks.....
Tbh i'm not convinced I have everything I need now but I'll just send OH out if i'm missing anything.
Walk was lovely- got some sea air. Stopped for early birthday dinner out and then am going to have a bath. Baby is super active, especially the last few days- it's lovely but can be quite exhausting!0 -
Good luck for Sunday shorty1978! There's a fair chance baby won't appear til the day after anyway, but definitely a double celebration!:j Same situation here with OH - he thought he'd be off work for Christmas and not going back, then he thought he'd be off for New Year's Day and not going back. He is so on edge he took the afternoon off today for no real reason, as no signs yet (will be off til Tuesday). I hope for his sake things start before Tuesday!
X_missymoo_x I'd rather not have an induction firstly beacuse I'd like to give birth in the midwife lead unit with my music, birth ball, pool and dimmed lights and be free to move about. With an induction at my hospital they take you to a different unit, to be wired up, on a drip, monitored by doctors. I have to be open minded, that might be the experience i get,but it's not my first choice. Secondly I've heard inductions can be more painful (because baby wasn't ready - in a natural start baby signals they're ready by startingthe contractions) and they're more likely to result in forceps/ ventouse/ epidural/ Caesarean delivery. Thirdly, you can be told you're coming in for an induction, then they decide they're too busy, due to emergencies or the number of natural births, so they send the induction patients home again - I can't imagine being psyched up for it and sent away again, like poor freshstart11 had to endure this week. Fourthly, they'll quite often give you meds, then send your partner home til the next day, and you have a night in hospital before labour has even begun. So purely selfish reasons - I want labour to be as relaxed and pain free as possible :A (Bound to end up with every intervention known to man now I've said that :rotfl:)0
