  • sorry to hear about your family bereavement shorty. Had you seen them recently? OH's grandma died unexpectedly last week but he is so pleased that he saw her a few weeks before that (she lives about 250 miles from us). I think that has made a big difference to him - and she was so excited about the baby.

Yeah it was my nan- I saw her xmas day so am grateful for that. I really wanted her to meet baby and if baby was on time she would have done. I believe she is still about in spirit so hopefully she will be with me in the delivery. We were very close so I'm going to miss her lots.

So sorry shorty, big hugs. It's difficult at any time, but combined with Christmas and impending babyness, it must make it a bit more difficult.

Baby is safe and warm and cosy (as demonstrated by their unwillingness to put in an appearance) so please don't worry about you being upset upsetting them-they're nicely cushioned from it all.

Ooh-bargains sounds good missy. I like OBEM. Not got OH to watch it yet, but he had to watch two full births today In ante natal, so that may be worse actually. ;)

Got told today I may not be able to have a water birth (at the end of the water birth ante natal class). It's not definite, we have an appointment to discuss it, but it's left me a bit upset and feeling out of control of the process. :(

    runmichellerun congratulations :)

shorty I'm sorry to hear about your nan :(

missymoo yes it's scary to think this will be our last christmas as just us two. I think it's hit DH now too and he keeps saying that "soon it won't just be the two of us" - I keep telling him it will be worth it! I haven't found much in the sales - wanted a xmas outfit for next year (a 9-12 month one obviously!) but everywhere seems to have sold out already!

Princess kate hope you managed to get your parcels out of the hands of City Link! I hear they have opened a few depots to allow people to collect them so hope yours isn't too far away. Good idea about shopping in JL for the guarantee on the pram to start from due date, Kiddicare does the same but they only have one shop left in Peterborough now.

Nicky envious about you starting mat leave soon! Haven't even thought about packing bags yet or washing clothing. Eek.

Aunty Pickle sorry you have been unwell for awhile :( Sorry if I missed that before.

Timeflies hope things start happening soon for you.

freshstart sorry to hear all did not go as you wanted. Hopefully things will progress more on the 4th.

Bubblepops welcome to the thread and congratulations :) Sorry you may not get the water birth you wanted - will you need monitoring a bit more closely?

I did see the silver cross simplicity car seat & base reduced in john lewis in the sales, although I just looked online and they don't look reduced there so maybe it changes depending on what store you go in or maybe only certain colours are discounted.

I've started seeing baby move from the outside over the last few days! It's probably been visible for weeks but is reliant on wearing little clothing and generally I am wearing several layers :)

In other news a friend of mine gave me a playmat and baby bath seat, we were talking about baby things over FB a couple of weeks ago - she has had 3 kids with no plans for more. I mentioned that I felt really embarrassed buying things like maternity towels even though I've obviously been buying tampons etc for years (totally ridiculous I know). Anyway when I got home from seeing her (she gave me bag fulls of stuff at a mutual friend's wedding) I discovered some towels and breast pads (unopened obvs!) in there too. Bless her. :) I suppose she could have had some left over from when she had her last but I doubt it. People can be very thoughtful! The playmat/gym looks awesome too (although has been taken apart so have to figure out how to put it together...!)

Must sleep now as have MW in the morning. 34 week appt eek! Probably won't post tomorrow but hope everyone has an amazing NYE :) (if sober..!)
  • Thanks everyone :)

Still nothing here after the sweep. 41 weeks today-
    Think i'll be pregnant forever!

Hopefully you can sort something out with regards to a water birth Bubblepops. It's hard when you have something in mind and then it isn't as straight forward as you hoped.

Oh Sulphate I love seeing baby move- i'm gonna miss it so much. It always amazes me..... I just sit watching. Hope your MW appt goes well.

    Happy NYE to everyone :)
  • So sorry to hear about your nan, shorty, at least you have some comfort from seeing her on Christmas. Its hard at anytime of year but around Christmas it just seems more cruel. Hugs to you. Your little one is clearly far too comfortable in there! Maybe a bit of partying tonight will start you off ;)

That was a lovely thought of your friend to give you those little bits, sulphate. Its just lovely when someone does like something that for you isn't it? For Christmas my friend put together a box for me and DH of useful little baby bits, things she said that when she was pregnant she didn't think of, like little baby cotton buds, nail clippers, baby wash etc which is just lovely. I really need to get round to writing everything down that we need and tick off what we have as I think we can tick a lot off from that one box :)
I've also been able to see baby move but its more like a little jolt in my belly when it kicks or punches, not a proper movement from one side to the other. My mum and dad keep telling me to watch out for when we see an elbow move right across as that's pretty weird but I'm like you, shorty, I could watch it all day!

Bubblepops, that's a shame you may not get your waterbirth, although they did say 'may not' so potentially its not a definite! Hopefully in the coming weeks you'll find out a bit more about the reasons why, or perhaps you could even use the pool for the first stages of labour and then actually give birth out of the pool? My experience from OBEM tells me this happens :):o

Talking about your antenatal classes Bubblepops, it made me realise that my midwife hasn't mentioned anything about them and I'm 26 weeks. I'm seeing her at 28 weeks so if she doesn't mention them then I'll ask her, but I'm sure on the NHS website and books say you normally start them round about now. Has anyone else due around the same time as me (end March/start April) been given details of their NHS classes, and for anyone, how early did you book private ones and who with? I'm starting to get worried I've missed the boat!
  • Bubblepops - how disappointing to be expecting one certain type of birth and then maybe not being able to have it :( Hopefully as missymoo says even if you can't actually give birth in water you will be able to use it during labour. I plan to be in a bath for as much as possible but won't be actually giving birth in the water. Hopefully at your appointment you will be able to have a full discussion about all the reasons and pros and cons.

OBEM - I used to love watching this (especially as a friend of mine is a midwife at the Southampton one!). I find it a bit more difficult now - it's all a bit more real!!! :rotfl: Haven't managed to persuade OH to watch one yet! In the meantime I'm trying to educate him with regards to different terminology ("crowning, transition, episiotomy" etc!)

Sulphate - I had an operation in November and they removed my right ovary and a big cyst which was growing. Fortunately it came back as being non-cancerous which was a big relief but it was a worrying time. I had a mid-line incision so have a scar from belly button down to below bikini line! They thought I might have to have a c-section but they have now cleared me for a vaginal delivery - hooray!!! :T
Re: your Silver Cross, it may just be certain colours which are reduced. The Bugaboo Buffalo we bought (hugely reduced) was only reduced in the "sand" colour.
Oooh, can't wait to see baby's body-parts from the outside!! At the moment, it's just like little "pops" or "jolts" barely visible - although I do sometimes get ripples when I'm in the bath!!
And how lovely of your friend giving you all those bits and pieces! :)

Shorty - don't know whether to hope you finally get things moving or to hope that you can enjoy NYE?!!!!

Missymoo - I was given a leaflet re antenatal classes fairly early on and the midwife mentioned it at my 22week appointment. The leaflet says the ideal time to attend is when you are 30-32 weeks. I've booked on the NHS ones and also Lazy Daisy ones (just went on their website and emailed our local person). I've also booked on the "Infant Feeding Workshop" (aka breastfeeding!) in March.

Hope everyone has a lovely NYE - we're going round to friends for a Chinese takeaway and they have said they don't expect us to stay all night!!! (That's the non-alcoholic pear-cider of course ;))

  • Ah wow, sulphate! It's amazing seeing that bump move, isn't it? And yep-definitely the weather for many, many layers!!

That's so nice of your friend-how thoughtful. I do know what you mean, I wimped out and ordered perineal gel online. Not psyched myself up enough to actually use it yet... :rotfl:

For the antenatal classes, missymoo, I got given a scratty bit of paper with a weblink on and told to book them quickly as they book up. But it's all different here, we don't have notes or anything (it's really stupid), so it's probably different for you. Maybe give the MW a ring and ask? It's only the second I've done, but we ranged from 21 weeks to 38, so there's a variety of stages.

Haha-'OBEM expert'! Between these forums and that, I consider myself well informed!!

Thanks for all the lovely comments, I was a bit worried I was over reacting. I'm hoping that we can sway them-chance to be in birthing centre, relaxing water birth will keep my anxiety as low as poss., best for little miss, less pain relief needed, blah blah blah, but I don't have good experience of them changing their minds. I think I've already jumped to worst case scenario, so I need to rein it in until my appointment, although that's easier said than done!

Yay for your delivery news, Aunty Pickle :T that's amazing that you have been given the all clear!!!! You must be so excited! Sorry to hear you've had such a tough pregnancy though.

Right-off to tackle kitchen decorating (again!! Like blimmin' Groundhog Day!). Have a great NYE everyone, enjoy your day/evening (with an OJ!) xxx

I'm due end of February and I received my letter about 2-3 weeks ago with my date for the classes. We are having them all in one day instead of spread over two weekends due to the holidays and such. I think it's different for each and every area though!

  • Missy I was given a leaflet about them at my 16 week appointment, bookended them after my 20 week scan & have them in March, I've also booked lazy Daisy weekly classes for me starting end of jan & the couples workshop for end of feb. Got a breastfeeding one sometime too! Thank god I've got it all written down in my diary or I'd stand no chance of remembering! The parent-craft classes with us are on a Wednesday afternoon 3.30-5.30 in a leisure centre. Luckily OH can take some hours flex to one with me but I can't help they're at quite a silly time!

Working my last long shift today, no more 13 hour days, thank God!! And I've only got 7 weeks left in work, finishing fairly early at 33 & 1/2 weeks but I can't wait!!
