  • Not sure view (assuming you're talking about yourself) who is paying your SMP - is it the agency you contract via?

Are you technically on maternity leave from your contracting role?
  • Welcome TOFT and Timeflies!

I have a midwife appointment this afternoon, not sure whether I'll be offered a sweep or if it's too early for her to do it (39+3). I'd be quite happy for her to have a go, though I am enjoying the peace and quiet of maternity leave as well. I'm just getting impatient to meet baby now :)

Today's plan is to bake a cake and do some more cross stitch, before midwife and then collecting DS from childminders. Hope you all have a good day!

my only suggestion view would be for you to check that out with the CAB, I'm not sure how you would stand as a contractor. sorry

Sorry for late reply, yes was asking for myself. I'm a temporary employer / contractor and will receive maternity pay however not leave. I really didn't think you could 'accrue' holidays whilst you were receiving mat pay however, as my contract stays in place for a year with the agency (as they're not allowed to make any changes to my contract/dismiss me/change my work etc..) I just wondered.

All the sites I've been on speak of accruing holidays when you're on mat leave however no sites definitively say for temporary/contract staff.

As mentioned I'm sure the answer is no, there is the just the grey area of still having a contract in place for 12 months... so wondered.
  • View if you have a contract and are being paid maternity pay from them yes you will accrue annual leave and they would have to pay it on contract ending or should you return 9mths into that contract you could take all leave accrued in those final months either working less days ( work 2 paid for 5 for example) or taking as full weeks.

You accrue annual leave based on contracted hours when you go on mat leave whether a temp or perm contract even if you return on less hrs so for example if you work full time you go on mat leave in APRIL (start of annual leave yr) and want to return in Feb the following year 3 days a week you will have accrued 10mths full time leave so would be entitled to that plus the further 2mths accruing at 3 days a week.

Great when full timer n first baby n going back part time by manager left me on full time for couple weeks n had full weeks as leave and then changed contract to 4 days and I used a day a week annual leave for 13weeks so only worked 3 days til little one was 13mths old but paid for 4 days helped with childcare costs too.

Hope I have made some sense
  • Hi All

Had my 32 week growth scan yesterday and she's measuring spot on for her chart and have been told she's weighing 4lb 9oz - not sure if I should be worried about that weight lol.

Things are going well just really really tired out so went to bed early last night and seems like I will be tonight as well.

I have just read back but can't remember a blooming thing oops.

With Mat Leave I accrue holidays and bank holidays whilst on it and can use them up or if needs be carry them over to the next year but I do work for the local council so things seem to be a bit different.

Is everyone using a pillow to sleep or are you alright with not having support, I did borrow a pillow of a mate but having anything under the bump actually makes me feel sick.

The only issue I have with sleeping is that my hips are killing me due to having hypermobility anyway and a previous hip operation on my left hip so am waking up lying on my back. The diabetic midwife mentioned that I shouldn't be lying flat now anyways but didn't expand on the reason for it and my community midwife has not once mentioned how I should be sleeping. Ah well can't do anything about it if I'm moving in my sleep right??

Had a couple of ladies surprised when I said I still had 8ish weeks to go as apparently my bump has dropped so both were saying that I would be delivering early. As long as I get some time off work I ain't bothered lol.

Anyways hope everyone is doing well and coping with whatever needs to be coped with (making sense as always) HUGS xxxx

Thanks for the advice everyone. My agency is fairly useless so I'll take your advice and contact CAB to see what official info they say.

Alioops hi there. Glad all went well with the scan. I can recall what mine weighed last week will check and report back. Sounds like the officials are happy tho.

I use a pillow however wake up every 45 minutes due to a dead leg and pain in the groin. It's really frustrating. I've written about lying in your back in a previous post so if you search for the words vena cava you'll see why it's not recommended x
  • Alioops - check out view's dicsussion on lying on your back. In summary there's some big old vein running down the back that if the baby lies on and squashes might restrict blood flow. Also lying on the left encourages baby into optimal birth position of head down, back to the left.

I use a dream genii - really varies whether it's comfortable. I seem to have it in constantly different positions presumably because lying in one position I get stiff. I don't keep a pillow under my bump but between my legs. This way rather than my legs sloping down so my hips are at an angle, having a pillow between my legs means that my hip joints are level iyskiwm. Does that make any sense?

At 34 weeks they estimate 5lbs for me. DOn't get too hung up on it. I have heard lots of sotries where one friend was told she was tiny like me with a tiny baby. Her DD was 9lbs. Other people are told their baby will be 9lb only to be 6lbs. Other people they get right!

V tired here also and looking forwrd to finishing work. Who by the way have been sweethearts. We had a little party with cake - someone made a giant jaffa cake

and they gave me a snugglebundl, a swaddling blanket, a little vest saying 'everything is awesome' inspired by the lego movie i love, baby massage oil and a lamaze toy. The card says this is a temporary goodbye and they want me back :D Just 4 more days...

View I don't have any knowledge about leave either - sorry.

  • Aw, you have lovely colleagues lilmissreading! My team are slowly disappearing - there'll probably only be two left to see me off at the end of November!

I was thinking of getting one of those dream geniis alioops78. I have slept with a little wedge shaped pillow under my bump a few times- not sure it makes too much difference, and finds its way across the bed to wake OH up!

my pregnancy Pilates teacher did put a pillow between my knees for one exercise a while back, and it was so comfortable! I totally get what you mean by that hips being straight thing lilmissreading!

view, in a regular year, would the agency give you any paid annual leave? If so I'd expect you to accrue it on mat leave, but not otherwise. Worth asking them to confirm though.

I was a bit concerned today as I hadn't felt baby move all day, but baby has woken up from late this afternoon, when I was thinking whether to call the midwife, and given me a few little wallops this evening :)
  • I sleep with a little wedge pillow under my bump and have gotten used to moving it when I turn over during the night aswell. I did buy a Dream Genii at a happy mums market but I found I got tangled up in it easily and I was losing the head with it! Back to the wedge for me!
I tend to go to sleep on my right hand side if hubby's in bed but left if he's not. Sometimes I wake on my back and even now I can find myself waking on my front! I don't know how my body allows it!
