  • Hello I've just graduated from the previous thread I'm 24 + 2 today due on Christmas Day. This is my OH and mine 1st child and we have experienced 4 miscarriages and I must confess am still very nervous.

It's 2.45 and I'm wide awake suffering with a rotten cold and a really sore chest I think a trip to see the doctor maybe needed :-( . Hope everyone is well and looking forward to picking up some tips for the last trimester x

Hello (again!) everyone, just moving up from the previous thread, having reached 24 weeks today! Very pleased to be officially carrying a baby rather than a foetus. :j This is my first pregnancy and generally going very well. I did have a very tired/faint patch for a few days last week. My midwife just called today with results form my 25 week check up, saying my iron was extraordinarily low, and she's left me some tablets to pick up, so hopefully they'll perk me up a bit.

welcome Timeflies! :T Glad the pregnancy is going very well. Here's to the rest of the time also following suit. With the iron, remember to take it two hours away from having any sort of milk, coffee, tea (or vitamin D if you're taking that). And always have it with orange juice if you can - this all helps absorption. Hope your iron picks up soon for you x

hi timeflies & toooldforthis, welcome to the 'scary' big girls threads. Hope everything goes smoothly for you both.

I've also got a rotten cold which I'm hoping will clear before baby arrives, fingers crossed but it feels like it's improved a fair bit today which is good.

I've got a wedding reception to go to tonight, hubby can't come now because he's got to work and he's on at me to try and get someone to go with me, I can understand why as it will be the furthest I've driven on my own for months, and I've been suffering from exhaustion but I feel my other work colleagues have done the usual and let her down and although I'm not her manager at the moment (she's currently temporarily acting up into my role) I should go even if it's just for a couple of hours. Plus I'm bound to know other people there and if I don't i'll just come home a bit earlier.
  • Hello all. Hope your colds are better today Toooldforthis and Lemon Tree - how are you both feeling? Did you get to the wedding reception Lemon Tree?

Thanks for the tips view, I knew caffeine interfered with iron absorption, but hadn't heard to not take the tablets with milk. Unfortunately my tablets have been locked in apart of the health centre that's not open again til Monday, so I haven't been able to pick up my iron yet, but I've been taking a multivitamin with iron.

We did our first baby shopping trip today, as we were both off work together. We need to get a travel system that will live in the boot of my car, as it seems like we'll be staying put in our little house for now (nothing's come on the market since our purchase fell through 3 weeks ago).

Has anyone bought the mothercare orb, icandy peach or mamas and papas sola, as they all seem to be good space-saving choices?

Having seen the size of cots, it's clear we can't fit one in our bedroom (if we still want to be able to move around!) so we might get a crib like this, anyone have one of these sort? :http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Swinging-Crib---Natural/477109,default,pd.html
  • Timeflies we have a crib as lasts longer than Moses baskets and when had one for first it lasted til 6 mths. You can get space saver cots which are smaller than normal cots I think Ikea do a small one which is pretty cheap too. Although Google space saver cots n will find them a family I night nanny for last yr who had twins got them once outgrew Moses n think we found them with matress for £65 each.

Lemon tree hope you enjoyed the wedding reception.

Time flies sola was on my list but was still too big to fit in my boot without removing the wheels so I went for a loola (amongst others!!). I guess you should try each out and weigh up the pros and cons.
We bought a crib like the one you linked to second hand as we also had the cot dilemma. Will use the crib in our room, cot will go in nursery and I think the carrycot can be used if I want the baby downstairs - not sure if that is safe of not though? Else I have seen some babies that sleep in their bouncers, again not sure if safe if anyone else can add any advice.
  • timeflies and toooldforthis! Welcome to the final step on pg threads!

TOFT - this is my first pg and I STILL feel nervous so can entirely understand why you would be feeling really nervous.

timeflies and lemontree - boo ya to colds

MrsC - a trying morning with all the prodding and poking? Ironically since my growth scan my bump has literally ballooned in the last two days and he reamins a wiggler. Is there any advice on when they start moving less due to less room?

BTW re arnica - according to NCT there is no benefot taking arnica before the injury. It's to treat current injuries not preventative so just take it once you've given birth.

Fascinating fact from NCT - a newborn's sotmach is about the size of a marble.

Lemontree - were you ok for the wedding reception?

We have a crib for the nursery, moses basket for our room and a carrycot as part of the travel system. Hopefully he'll sleep in one and if we really have to we can just about fit the crib in our room.

Can't seem to copy my email on the tablet (most likely user error - had a lovely but tiring weekend and only just got back) but the lullaby trust was a recommended website for safe sleeping and reducing SIDS.

I am going to follow alioops example and just offer hugs to all as who doesn't need one once in a while :D

  • I just typed a big post then managed to highlight and delete it so will try and remember everything I was going to say!

Lilmiss, it certainly was a trying morning, I didn't expect to be there as long as I was but they were very thorough and I'm to go back this Friday coming for another scan due to me being there mainly for reduced movement. The little alien hasn't stopped moving since and is certainly getting me back for something! It obviously just wanted to give me a fright!!!
We have been away for the weekend and we met up with friends last night and went for an Indian meal. I had a mild meal but must have eaten too much as that along with the heat in our hotel room (heating off) I was up all night with indigestion. I literally didn't sleep more than an hour at a time and actually thought I was going to have to be sick to get some relief. Thankfully I managed to find the gaviscon around 5am and took some, managing not to be sick with it, and I did manage a couple of hours after that. Not a nice way to spend what was probably our last night alone for a number of years!!!

Re the pram questions, I can't help as I was given my friends mamas n papas pram/pushchair/carrycot etc which was only used for one child and if it wasn't for the wheels you'd never know it had been used! It will defo go into our big car but haven't tried the wee one. I'm actually on the hunt for another car seat as my sister gave me hers but I don't like it and it's missing the head support for the newborns so I'm open to recommendations for one. Not spending a fortune on it though.....

Back to the doctors tomorrow for my next sick line.
    Hope everyone else is well.

We have the Mothercare Orb - 3 weeks in and we think it's fantastic for the price! It's collapses really small and is so easy to put together it's unreal. I'm a bit jealous as they have a new limited edition navy material and brown "leather" handle!!

  • Just thread hopping!

Timeflies, we have an icandy peach for our little one. She's 5 months and we've just moved her into the seat part of the pram. She was never really a fan of the carry cot as she's nosey!

In terms of the actual pram, I love it. It's on the heavy side but I don't mind as I keep it in the car. It's great for manoeuvrability, and if you need to store it the wheels come off making the frame fairly compact. One thing to bear in mind is that you have to take the seat off to fold it up so it's in two parts. I can fit the frame in my Fiat 500 boot so gives you an idea of the size!

Also, we have a tiny bedroom so got a mosesbasket for downstairs and a crib for upstairs.
