Hope it all goes ok for you. I had this all a few weeks ago and aside from the massive unusual bruising from the GTT (more on that below) all was ok. I had almost got myself into a tizz over the whooping cough vaccine imagining a massive needle and dead arm for a week (silly I know!). The needle was teeny tiny and over with in seconds... my arm didn't even hurt at all. Hope it all ok for you too - let us all know how you get on xrunmichellerun wrote: »I'm sure I've read a couple of you have suffered from dizziness. I'm starting to get it now and wondered what it tends to be down to? Iron levels? Just general pregnancy stuff?
I had heard a few things about this - mainly about how lying on your back at night can put pressure on your vena cava from your your abdomen resting on your intestines and major blood vessels (the aorta and vena cava). Anyway, if you put pressure on it, it can make you feel dizzy. Lying on your left at night will increase the amount of blood and nutrients to your baby and won't put pressure on your vena cava. I'm sure there are other pg reasons for dizziness (including low iron), just this is the one I keep hearing about.
The iron level thing - I have had chronic fatigue before (although didn't realise it until my hair started falling out). Bloods taken and iron and vitamin D was in the gutter. I started to bruise very easily and felt fairly rubbish...anyway, when I had the GTT I bruised very badly, like someone had grabbed me roughly on each inner elbow.. had my iron levels tested at the 28 mw apt and although my iron levels were ok, they were just on the cusp of the bottom of the scale. I had felt dizzy lately also. I take ferrous sulphate (you can get this from Boots for less than £2) and it has 200mg iron it in. Helps a huge amount. You take it with orange juice and after a meal to help absorption. Iron should be taken at least two hours before/after coffee/tea/milk. Obviously everyone should speak to their GP, mw or consultant first... but certainly helps me and gets my levels up pretty quickly.
Hope that helps...
Now ladies (aside from hoping you're all doing very well) if I may ask a question.
I recently bought two v shaped pillows that were £30 each (down from £100 each) thought, what a bargain I bet they're AMAZING! Unfortunately they were ABSOLUTE RUBBISH! So back they went... I have been umming and ahhing about getting a dream genii however have heard many people find it flattens reasonably quickly and as it's nearly £50 I want to be sure.... I find pillows between my legs and lower towards my feet works best ..
Can anyone recommend v shaped memory foam pillows?0 -
View I bought a bogstandard long body pillow from Argos as it was a lot cheaper than the Dreamgenii. This one. I have it between my legs and kind of wedged under my bump as it feels like it's being stretched if I lie on my side with no support under it. Must say I've been sleeping better since getting it, I really like it. Not sure how long it'll last but it feels fairly thick and has a removable cover you can wash.0

thankfully yes, now just feel dizzy when I overheat or get too dehydrated.0 -
I got a deam genii because it was a penny on ebay! It does flatten quite quickly but still good enough for me. i find sometimes I want it, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I use it backwards ie the long one to my right to prevent me rolling over on to my right. It has a removable washable cover. I wouldn't have wanted to spend £30 on it for sure.
Done 2 NCT classes ann thanks to this thread I seem to know so much!
34 weeks tomorrow and my mw check at 11am. Got whole day off in lieu. So ready for no work. It's also our wedding anniversary tomorrow so we spent today mooching round town, going for a drink, buying a book with DH's book token and spoiling ourselves with an M&S shop of reduced items with more vouchers.
Got Lazy Daisy tomorrow evening and NCT on Tuesday so going to be busy...Met DH to be 2010

I've got a Dream Genii pillow aswell bought at a happy mums market for £2.50. It's a nightmare, keep finding myself tangled up in it and waking more than usual. I much prefer my little wedge pillow. No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000

Thanks ladies for the comments about pillows... I think I'm going to try the Argos one - even if I bought 4 and rotated them until they were flattened still cheaper than Dream genii!
Hope you're all feeling well today. My wee one must be going through growth spurt as she now wriggles about from 10 to 6am... all good tho can't complain at all.
First antenatal class tomorrow, looking forrward to it.

Hmmm just got back from 34 week at mw. Everything absolutely fine but bump only measuring 30cm at 34 weeks. She did say it's most likely as I am slim anyway and have only put on 4kg so far since booking in (not a weight gain she is worried about apparently). So that's me off for growth scan on Wednesday.
Little bit worried but seem to remember other people on this thread saying the tape measure method can be down to human error hence the back up of growth scans?
Also was very reassuring to hear a good, strong heartbeat and bless his heart, he is lying head down and to the left which is optimum for a normal birth.Met DH to be 2010

lilmiss - I can understand why you would be worried, but try not to be (I appreciate how difficult this is!). The tape measure thing is quite unreliable, which is why they back it up with scans, which are much more accurate. I am measuring fine on the tape measure, but on the scans, our wee one is a bit small. So the opposite, to you, but still no one is very concerned as baby is growing and has a strong heartbeat. You might just have a small baby!
I guess I am saying, try not to worry too much at this point. Even if they find the baby is small or growth has slowed down, then at least you will know and a plan will be made. They have the very best interests of you and your baby at the centre of things, so trust you are in good hands. Plus its an extra chance to see the baby!
View - I am just using normal pillows, a flatter one under my hip (a tip from the physio to reduce hip pain) and a normal one between my legs and slightly under my bump. I would only spend the money on expensive pillows if you feel you will also get the use post baby, i.e. feeding or something like that.
RMR - I get dizzy from time to time too when walking about, and is only relived by sitting down. Doc said it could be pressure on the artery that View was talking about, low blood pressure, anaemia or just one of those pg things that can't be explained! She did say that pressure on the artery can cause less blood to your heart, making it skip a beat or two, which can make you dizzy. So I got a heart monitor test from the hospital last week. Still waiting on results, but not expecting it to be that to be honest. Please mention it at your next MW appointment though, as they might want to investigate further.
Freebie - sorry to hear about your pain and cramp. At yoga, they recommend going on all fours, lifting leg up and then pointing toes to the floor to get a good stretch on the calf. She claims this prevents cramp, but I am not so sure. I do use it when I get cramp though, and it does help.
Laila - how are you feeling now?
Ali - hope you are getting on ok at work?
congrats Scotsbride!
I've got 7 weeks left at work, but am using TOIL and bank holidays so I won't have to work a 5 day week, except one week and even then I will work from home one or two days that week. Mat leave cover recruited, just waiting on a start date from HR, just a million hand over notes to write now, as well as to keep the money rolling in! (I'm a fundraising for a charity so the pressure never stops!)
Sorry for the mammoth post ladies! xx0 -
hi everyone, I'm sure baby has dropped down a bit as I'm not achy around the ribs at the moment but unfortunately I have felt really breathless since last night, feels like I just can't get enough air in my lungs. I know medical people will say that it's just where baby is compressing everything inside me but when she was higher up kicking heck out of my ribs I didn't feel like this0

RMR hope you're GTT went okay. I'm suffering from dizziness too but just put it down to needing to eat and being warmer than usual.
Sewit it's so handy being able to work from home isn't it although with the day I've had today I wish that I had rung in sick like I wanted to as I did not want to leave my bed today and it's just too stressy at the moment as all invoices are meant to be done by the end of the day and there's no chance that's happening due to issues. I'm just in a cranky mood today and everything little thing is getting to me.
View I've not bothered with any pillows, I tried a cushion folded up under my bump but I found it actually made me feel sick but I'm also not feeling that uncomfortable sleeping so not too bothered.
Lilmiss I saw my midwife this morning and I'm measuring 32cm at 31 + 1 but the midwife said that previously to the charts being used they would only be concerned if you were 3cm bigger or smaller but as I'm getting regular scans anyway due to GD she's not worried. If you're really concerned can you not ring your mw again and just double check if you should have a growth scan anyway.
Had my mw appointment this morning and was so tired I forgot to take my urine sample with me oops. MW wasn't happy but I did mention that I had done a sample for a suspected UTI so she checked the results, which were clear, and was okay to use those but I did get told off. She's said that sproglet is head down and even got DH to feel where the head was. I really like her as she involves everyone and remembers what has been said at previous appointments. As above she's not bothered about my measurements and is happy with everything. My next appointment with her is in 3 weeks, the first day of leave yay.
Bless hubby over the weekend we were out and about all day Saturday with barely being in the house for an hour at a time, I think we went to every supermarket there is. I was absolutely shattered and we ended up arguing as I was stressing about leaving him to do everything and he was telling me to leave him to do everything. It's funny what you can argue about, anyway after relaxing in bed finally he brought me my tea and said that I was not to move from bed tomorrow and that he would start sorting everything out. True to his word on Sunday he spring cleaned the lounge room and shifted things around so we've got a better set up now. He's definitely worth the homesickness and crappy weather.
Another mammoth post - I could've turned it ranty about work but it's just not worth it any more lol. xxxDEBTS ARE BEING DEALT WITH AS BEST WE CAN:heart: Married my prince on 27/08/2011Baby Girl born 21/10/14:D:D:D:D
