I much prefer Rennies to Gaviscon. The tablets. The other day, hubby bought me two packs of 72 tablets and we have bet on whether I will get through the lot before baby comes! The one time I took liquid Gaviscon in the first trimester I was so sick and it was absolutely horrendous - it works by making a layer of foam that floats on top of your stomach to stop the acid rising up, and let's just say, vomiting that foam up was NOT GOOD!

I have used stretch mark oil and body butter all the way through but have absolutely horrendous stretch marks...the worst I have ever seen in pictures or anything. I think it is just genetics and luck! :(

Movements - I am now 31+2 and rarely feel much when standing up, some when sitting down and lots when lying down. At 24/25 weeks I certainly only felt movements when lying down and I think that is normal.

I posted about this on the FB group too but yesterday at my 31 wk appointment the midwife asked me my shoe size and wrote it down! I have small feet and she said small feet can indicate a small pelvis and suggest that you will have trouble delivering. She worried me a bit but then I texted my sister (doctor) who asked her doctor housemates too and the overwhelming consensus was it is a ridiculous old wives' tale and not to take any notice. Phew! Just wondering if anyone has also been asked this or was that midwife slightly mental?!

Thanks Daisie. Even just looking at food give me heartburn now, midwife reckons work stress isn't helping that.
DH still hasn't felt baby move as every time he puts a hand on it stops. He's joking it's not going to be a daddy's baby but all kids love him so I'm guessing this one won't be any different. I feel most when lying down, the other night it didn't stop for 3 hours!!
Never heard that about shoe size but if it's true I'm lucky with my size 8 boats lol

    Morning ladies, how are we?

I got a gift of boots Sanctuary collagen bump butter, and it's excellent. Really light and soaks in quickly (would recommend). Touch wood, no stretch marks so far (at 27 weeks), realise there is plenty time to get them though! Hoping as my mum and sis mostly escaped them then I might too.

Getting a wee bit of heartburn if I eat greasy food, so trying to avoid. Got a big bottle of 'generic' gaviscon free on the minor ailments service. Does the nhs in England have that? In Scotland pg ladies can get stuff for heartburn, piles, painkillers and other stuff for common niggles free from pharmacies.

MrsC - glad you are planning on taking things easier at work, it does sound like your work is full on. Great you have mil to help and reassure.

Laila - boo to swollen feet and hands, but great that mw is going to keep an eye on it.

Tacod - yeah for head down! This wee one is still transverse, I can feel leg/arm digging in to my bladder, creates a strange pressure sensation in my pelvis!

T2D - how are you? Feeling any better and have you sorted things out with dh? Still thinking of you lovely x

Got weighted at new dr the other day, I've put on around 5.5kg since booking app (at 13 weeks) so around 9 since the ivf in Jan. Think that is ok?

Crazy weekend here, including working tomorrow then the closing ceremony of the commonwealth games at night so a late one but should be fun! Have good weekend ladies and take care of yourselves! X
  • MrsC- I swear by ranitidine tablets- gaviscon is rank! It's safe to take in pregnancy but double check with your mw/ GP. You can buy it otc. I've been buying it in cheapy shops (poundworld/ home bargains etc.) as it's way cheaper than in pharmacies (about £1 for 12 rather than £3 for 12 in boots...)

Daisie I haven't heard the thing about small feet= small pelvis. Will ask mil later if she thinks there's anything in it. She's delivered hundreds of babies so I'm sure she'll have an opinion one way or another! Wonder if it's related to height though... You're petite anyway aren't you (5ft?) so size 3 feet for your height make perfect sense and sounds in proportion. I'm 5'7" and my feet are a 5. My OH always laughs at how ridiculously tiny they look compared to me- especially if I brave heels! They don't seem in proportion to my height (of similar height friends i have the smallest feet- they're all 6,7 and one 8)...

I've been using nivea avocado body oil whilst my skin is still wet from the shower. A bottle lasts about 6-8 weeks so it's pretty cheap too! I don't have any stretch marks yet but I don't think it's down to the oil. It's made my skin lovely and soft though. I never moisturised before pregnancy as i'm pretty lazy. Reckon I'll get stretch marks soon, but if I don't the only reason will be because i've been about 2 stone heavier in the past so maybe i have a bit more skin for baby to grow into! :)

Sewit- from what I've read there are no weight gain guidelines set for pregnancy in the UK. I only got weighed at booking in and haven't been weighed since even though i'm now under a growth clinic as baby is small for gestation. I weighed 13 st 9 at booking in (bmi just over 30) and on my scales this morning i weighed 13st 10. I have had no appetite for months now and I wish I had gained more weight as then I couldn't blame myself for baby being small. There's this calculator/ article from a baby magazine i read http://www.gurgle.com/guides/pregnancy/42-pregnancy-weight-gain but I really wouldn't be concerned at what you've gained!

Also for any English ladies- the 'minor ailment scheme' Sewit uses in Scotland is called 'care of the chemist' in England. As a pregnant lady you can get gaviscon and lactulose on it for free without seeing your GP as long as you produce your exemption certificate. :)

Hi ladies, just popping back to update you on our boy's name. We finally made a decision and he is called Gabriel James.

I really wasn't a trooper re the no pain relief - I was desperate for it and had a totally hysterical moment when I realised it wasn;t coming in time, and pretty much lost it. My doula had to talk me back down. I mean, I'm kinda proud of doing two births without drugs BUT I'd much rather have had the drugs you know? Because it's not a contest to see who's hardest :D

Anyway, I will update the list with Gabriel's details and then lurk for a while to see how you all get on.

    hugs to everyone xxxxx

    Hello everyone,

Well it's been an exciting day and a half. I had the ECG but she could not get a clear view of my heart because of my huge boob and bump being in the way. Then I wore the heart monitor for a day. I'm sure I filled the diary in wrong. This morning I had a bath and suddenly felt very sick and dizzy and I thought that collapsing in a bath would not be a good thing so Mr P had to help me out and to the bed while I recovered.

Hi Lemon, yes I'm ok. I think I scared Mr P and this afternoon I lay down to make sure I could feel bump move. Bathing in future may need a bit more thought...
