Version 1 of my birth plan has been written. I used the NHS one as a guide and read through Skintchicks (thanks), chose the options I wanted and typed them up so it all fits nicely onto one page.
I've decided not to have trainees there as although I'm sure the trainee midwives are lovely; in the past I've found observing/trainee doctors to be a bit cold or trainee nurses to be distracting.
Has anyone thought about what position they want to be in when they give birth? I hope we'll try them out at the lazy daisie classes. I know I won't want to stand up but may try squatting and leaning on something or sitting upright.
One thing I've learnt in the last few months is there's pain interventions I can learn/take aimed at helping women to cope with giving birth that I hope will help me to cope with the pain I experience from endometriosis. Like hypnobirthing, lazy daisie breathing techniques, PR paracetamol and TENS machine. I hope they work, but it seems crazy that I've experienced chronic pain for 20 years and have not been told/found out about them yet they are available for 1 day. If they work I'll tell the class teachers they can also aim the classes at endometriosis sufferers.Pots: House £6966/£7100, Rainy day Complete, [STRIKE]Sunny day £0/£700[/STRIKE], IVF £2523/£2523, Car up-keep £135/£135, New car £5000/£5000, Holiday £1000/£1000, MFW #16 £2077/£3120

I am not anti-vaccine and neither is my family as there are risks from the virus. I think single vaccines should be available and I would be willing to pay for them - especially if the vaccine is live like the MMR. I also think the health professionals need to say what the potential side effects are, when I asked mine they said there was none but I decided to look it up and there are. Which makes me start to mistrust the advice they give. Even if the effects are mild people should be told, so if the patient does not feel lied to if they have a reaction.
I experienced this. Both the midwife and the nurse giving the vaccine never informed me of any side effects. Over a week later I was still experiencing really bad shoulder and chest/back pain so I went to the walk in centre!! Ended up all being put down to the vaccine...0 -

I didn't mean to give birth to DS standing up, I just got out of the pool to use the loo and then he popped out! :rotfl: So I wouldn't spend too long working out exactly which position you prefer, you just never know what might happen....
Skintchick, glad your meeting with the midwives went OK and that they were happy to listen to you in the end. Enjoy your DD's birthday!
Going to do baby clothes sorting tomorrowIt'll be nice to get one thing ready at least... feeling pretty disorganised still at the moment. We should have a working washing machine any time now, as the new kitchen is being fitted today. I'm not sure if the clothes will need a freshen up wash after being in boxes / vacuum bags for a couple of years, but I suspect they will.
I have ordered some bf'ing bras now too, as I only had one decent one with DS, and promised myself some new ones this time. Hopefully they'll fit!0 -
Peonie I was thinking of positions after the class at the weekend. I reckon if I can labour naturally I'll be all over the place like William Shatner in family guy..... http://youtu.be/XP-krMn5k4E . I don't think i'll find on my back comfortable but any other position is fair game in my head! Also I was told by one of the Hewitt doctors (Dr Green I think her name was) and by an antenatal clinic doctor (Dr Ford) that once pregnant you essentially are 'cured' of endometriosis. Not sure how true this is as obviously haven't had af but am hoping that they weren't bs'ing me!
I've written a draft of my birth plan but with everything being so up in the air as to whether i'll need ecv/ induction or section I feel a bit pfffff about it all. None of it is in my control at all so am wondering whether there's a point! Lol. I've been putting frozen peas on baby's head to try and get the b*gger to turn but i'm dubious as to whether it'll work or not... Know that it squirms away which is reassuring that it has room to do that but then head reappears under my ribs once the area has warmed back up again. Not sure what to make of that!0 -

Endometriosis is a potentially chronic condition and current approaches do not cure endometriosis. The hormones released when pregnant temporarily suppress the menstrual cycle – which can alleviate symptoms. Many women find that their symptoms return after giving birth and their menstrual cycle has returned. The decision to have a child should depend on lots of things and only you will know when you are ready to start a family.
I'm mentally preparing myself for the few days after labour and potentially the first period after labour to be extremely painful. After my mc, last laparoscopy and embryo transfer I was in horrible pain so I don't see how this will be any different. The MW said I can try and see if the GP will prescribe PR paracetamol but it is very expensive and if bfing will only be able to take paracetamol and ibuprofen.Pots: House £6966/£7100, Rainy day Complete, [STRIKE]Sunny day £0/£700[/STRIKE], IVF £2523/£2523, Car up-keep £135/£135, New car £5000/£5000, Holiday £1000/£1000, MFW #16 £2077/£3120

Good morning ladies! 36+1 for me today!
I can safely safe the nerves are kicking in! If one more person tells me I've a rough time ahead of me, I will not be held responsible for my actions :rotfl:
What do people hope to achieve by trying to scare the life out of me?!!!
I had my first (and hopefully last) unpleasant mw experience. I was due to have a growth scan last week but the incompetent receptionist didn't book it in at my 29 wk scan. If she had, she could have told me immediately that the consultant was on holidays last week! We we're sitting in the MLU like 2 lemons & my oh had a tough time getting out of work for that particular appointment!
They got me another appointment in another hospital which I couldn't make & then had the audacity to contact me asking why I was pestering another hospital! Got a scan booked for 2moro so all sorted now hopefully.
Does anyone worry their baby might be too big for them to deliver naturally? Is that a rational thought? I am petite with what I think is a huge bump, and now I'm at the stage where I feel sick after eating or even a large drinks because it feels like there literally isn't an inch of free space between my boobs & pelvis :rotfl:
Off work today so baby clothes in the machine, and I'm going to finish packing my hospital bag. Think I just need witch hazel or tea tree & that's everything. The hospital is 5 mins from my house so I wasn't going to pack anything for oh but maybe I will, just in case I end up being transfered from MLU to big hospital for any reason.
God that turned out to be a long post! Sorry about that ladies!0 -
Hi all, I'm still very early days (4-5 weeks) but am sneaking on here to just ask if anyone has any experience of childcare vouchers on maternity leave? Currently use them for nursery fees for ds and I've heard conflicting info about whether you still get them whilst on ML as it considered a benefit like holidays, bonuses etc. would be a huge huge help if we still got them!!

Hello everyone, what another gorgeous day! I'm sat in the garden and doing no housework today.
For those ladies breastfeeding, can you help me understand how expressing works please? I'm looking at electric pumps but what do you do with the milk once it's out? How do you store it and for how long?
If I go out for the day do I have it in a bottle and do I need to warm it? Or keep it cool until warming? I've really no idea!
I really want to bf but not in public so I'm looking for a pump.
Thanks0 -

Congratulations
My employer still offers childcare vouchers on maternity leave. When my pay drops down to SMP they aren't allowed to make any further deductions from it, so they have to give me the childcare vouchers without charge. When I'm getting my SMP topped up by my employer they make a deduction from my pay for childcare vouchers as normal. Different places may have different rules about it, but that's how ours works.0
