Alioops - would it work to have the normal physio or try to speak to one on the phone because sometimes other physio can transfer referrals internally to neuro physio? If they can do this it can be far more streamlined than going through the drs. Feel for you. How FRUSTRATING

Thanks lilmiss I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow anyway so am going to see if she can suggest anything but I'm not going to hold my breath.

How exciting skint, good luck hope you're not waiting too long.

T2D my midwife told me about the whooping cough jab at my first appointment but I can't remember at what stage you're meant to have it done other than it being later on in pregnancy. Unless you're allergic to it everyone should have it done apparently.

Speaking of jabs, does everyone get the whooping cough vaccine? I've heard of it around the place, but no mention by my MW or many doctors. Should I ask?

You have it from 28 weeks up to 36 weeks. I was told to book my appointment to have it done at my 26 week appointment. I would ask just in case.
  • Yup was told from 28wks T2D and just needed to book appt with nurse at GPs who jabbed me (took all of 2secs) and that was me done!

Random question ladies, is/had anyone bought waterproof sheets for Moses basket and/or cot? Just wondering if it's something we are likely to need?x

28 weeks here. I would have refused it last time, but I'll be getting it this time. Not for the whooping cough part, but for the tetanus part. It's a multi-part vaccine, there is no whooping cough only vaccine any more. I'm due for a tetanus booster middle of next year, so I figure I'll get it while it's free!

I've never had a tetanus shot. Should I have??

I've got an appointment in 10 days so I'll ask then. No rush I don't think. The doctors keep a close eye on me so I'm sure they have it planned at some stage.

I don't know about here, but in the US, they are required to attend school. Then you're supposed to get them every 10 years or earlier if you cut yourself with something dirty. I sliced my hand open (not too deep, but long and painful) on a meat slicer when I worked at a grocery store when I was cleaning it, so I had to have an extra one then. More than likely, unless your parents were against vaccines, you had it as a child and possibly teenager. Boosters are recommended every 10 years, at least in the US. I'm always accidentally cutting myself, so I make sure to get those boosters as I need them, having a bit of a sore arm for a day or two is much better than contracting tetanus in my opinion.

I had all my vaccinations as a baby and teen for hep c, so perhaps I had it then. I have a yellow book somewhere with travel vaccines too. Since I managed to get HPV cancer I'm totally pro vaccines now! I'm wondering if I can get my boy to be vaccinated against HPV too.

In Australia there are rules around proving your child has had their jabs before they can attend school and preschool. Not sure if the details but it's certainly very strongly encouraged/mandated!
  • T2D, i thought my mw could do whooping cough jab but I had to make a separate appt with practice nurse to get it done. Might be worth making an appt with them for after your next dr appt to save on a trip?

I don't think you have to prove immunisation status to go to school here but imo I think you should. Don't understand rational behind not immunising your children and compromising everyone elses....

Cmace, as everyone else has said you don't need anti-d. :) three less needles for you! :)

i made an appointment for my whooping cough and got a letter from my practice as well, they did check that I was over 28 weeks before they gave it to me. It wasn't as bad as I'd heard it could be.
I agree that you should have to prove your immunisation status before school, I know there was the big thing about the joint MMR but i'll certainly be making sure Little Miss gets her jabs. I even work with someone who refuses the flu jab on the grounds that she thinks it will make her walk backwards - I kid you not!

I do vax, but I think people should have the choice not to. Yes herd immunity ends up reduced if people don't, but why should we be forced to inject chemicals into our bodies and our children's bodies if we don't want to? I think it's a slippery slope for the Government to be able to force people to do things whether they want to or not, in terms of their own bodies.
