  • Hey Daisie. The advice I was given by consultant today, on the hospitals new snazzy patient info sheet and from MIL is this:
    1. Only you know what 'normal' movements are for you.
    2. If you notice that baby hasn't been moving as normal then get an ice cold drink (sugary if you can), drink it and lie on left side. If movements do not return to your normal within 2 hours then ring the MAU and go in.

This advice was given to me as they are concerned about baby's size but they also asked me about any other 'risk' factors that i may have e.g. Do i smoke, what was NT screening test result, amy bleeding, cramping/ contractions or loss of water. I may be wrongly assuming here but to me that means they may have issued the same advice had I had bleeding episodes.

Today was weird. Got scanned and baby still stubbornly staying under the 5th centile. Everything else seems to be fine though the question about downs did get me quite worried. They won't offer to do amnio/cvs unless growth tails off further. Going to be scanned every 2 weeks, heart monitor every week and whilst they don't think i'll go to 37 weeks they want to induce me at 38 weeks. Will have to argue to see if they'll wait until it turns September though as OH is worried about birth bias... Quite scary to think that it's going to be 8 weeks and then baby will be here! Especially seeing as the house is a bomb site, there's so much to do and well- there'll be a BABY!!!

Is it wrong to not tell work about induction? It would mean I could carry more annual leave over to end of mat leave...
  • MrsC- sounds like a rubbish day. Can work do that to you? Is there a way you can invoke duty of care into a risk assessment? Adding 2 hours to your working day whilst you're pregnant/ in future heavily pregnant seems pretty mean. I'd be tempted to go to doctors re. Exhaustion and see if that stops them...

Ooh, forgot to say- anyone with a doppler- hearing baby's heartbeat shouldn't be taken as reassurance if movements are reduced. Movements trump doppler so speak to mw/ hospital if movements are reduced. Xx

Baby currently is headbutting the ribs on my right side. It's so uncomfortable. I've come to bed to try and get the little b*gger to move a bit. Feels like it's trying to touch a lung! :)

MrsC Sorry to hear about your bad day, agree with TCOD, seems harsh whilst you are pregnant.

teaandcakeordeath Glad everything seems fine at the scan and it's good that they are going to monitor things. Personally I wouldn't tell work, if you can carry over more leave, that is more time with your baby!

Speaking of work. I am slightly getting the hump with my place. They have been brilliant about my pregnancy BUT they have done nothing regarding a replacement/cover for me. The most important part of my job is a monthly thing and the beginning of August is the last time I will be doing it before I go off. I just worry if there is no one to cover then do they not see my work as important and that puts my job at risk? I have brought it up several times but never get an answer!

That's the thing, technically they will be able to as initially I was working both sites and it's still in my contract even though I've only been on one for the best part of a year! Driving isn't bothering me just now but I've not been doing much on a regular basis so it might change when I've done a few weeks of it and when I start breaking down in tears of exhaustion it will be a trip to the doc for me!

I will inbox you my address Plantpot. I am a bit useless with FB tbh.

Ema_o Thank you for the link. Bluebell, I am sure the midwife could have checked but did not feel the need to know at that stage. I did ask more out of curiosity as I like the idea of knowing where she is.

I finish work in 7 weeks (37+1) but I have just worked out it is 28 actual working days.

I am not sure if I should do this but my LO responds to a slight nudge. If I have not felt anything for a few hours I will put my hands either side of my bump and sort of gently rock it from one side to the other 1 or 2 times. She tends to respond with a kick or two either playing with me or telling me to back off!! Not sure which one...

TCOD, I hope you LO has a growth spurt and an induction can e avoided. If it is any consolation, two people I know that have given birth in the last four weeks had problems with growth, one with a seemingly small baby the other with a big baby.
Despite scan predictions, both went into natural labour delivering healthy 6lb 7ounce (small one) and 7lb babies! The 7lb baby was estimated to be 9lb at the 38 week scan.

I am just catching up with last nights OBEM

I do this but I'm not quite as subtle and just give it a good poke! Usually works!

  • Hello -broken brain due to exhaustion. Think the little one is hitting a growth spurt.

Daisiegg - sometimes his movements aren't very noticeable. Seems to go in ups and downs. Certainly being still makes it more likely and therefore i can't suss a pattern as i am never still at the same time.

Thanks for links. Back to sleep for me.

Hugs to all with rubbish times for whatever reason

MrsC can I say from experience don't leave it too late to do something if you start to feel exhausted. I have a 45 min drive each way to work, and they were quite happy for me to just keep going and then spend my weekends throwing up and sleeping. I hit my limit 3 weeks ago and didn't get enough support from my boss to get things changed as we had deadlines looming. I ended up being read the riot act by the hospital midwife on Tuesday and have now been signed off for 2 weeks.
I reality I should have done something 3 weeks ago but felt too guilty, but all I have been doing is putting myself and potentially my baby at risk.
I have to admit 2 days into my sick leave I'm bored but the fact that I'm still needing a couple of naps a day means I'm not over exaggerating just how exhausted I've been feeling.

Thanks lemon tree, I know what I was like on Monday after having a busy weekend so will see what happens once I start this new schedule. I have midwife again at the end of the month when I'll be just under 3 weeks into it so will see how I'm faring up then. I know the weekend after mw will be fairly busy and the following one will be completely hectic so I'll be really good on the Monday morning!!! If I pull out of that weekend away now I lose £125 as it's a conference and paid upfront with the deadline for cancellations being last Monday. Stress! Lol

You know we are supposed to wash the babies clothes before using them, does anyone know what type of detergent should be used? Presumably not my normal nice smelling one and fabric conditioner...

And how early can you do it? I was thinking of getting it all done in this lovely weather.

Non-bio and do it whenever you fancy. It's just to get chemcials and factory dirt off them.

Can;t face updating about me tonight. Too upset and tired. Maybe tomorrow. Hope everyone is well.
