Hi everyone, been reading along but not replying as typing on my phone is slow going. 28+6 here, 6 more days than I made it last time. My growth scans aren't showing great things, there is a lot of resistance through the cord and baby isn't gaining much weight, so scanning twice a week and hoping and praying he can hang on in there for a few more weeks. I've got an ear infection as well and to be honest I'm almost completely absorbed by that pain rather than focussing on the pregnancy right now!

  • Dinah - fingers crossed lb hangs in as long as possible

Robots - nice to see you back :-).

Our hospital provided the rtu bottles but that was 2 yrs ago so may need to change again

Sunshine thankyou for doing the lists.

I won't be packing bibs or dummys but its a good starter list.

  • Welcome Impulse. I think your only buying the essentials approach is the right one. I'm forever telling myself we have 24 hour supermarkets where I can get the majority of things I need for a baby once I have the basics.

Sorry to hear you're having problems in this pregnancy too Dinah. Is there anything the hospital can recommend to do to help him put on weight? Sounds like they will be keeping a close eye on you, so fingers crossed there is something they can do to help. Hope your ear infection clears up soon.
  • I dont watch OBEM but between the ad for it and the ad for BHF I am a jibbering wreck when they come on.

Aww I love OBEM! I am a FTM and loads of people told me not to watch it when I am preggers because I would scared but actually it makes me really excited!

I went an got a few bits for my hospital bag today and then had to leave the shop as I got all emotional lol. I got a few sleep suits, some scratch mitts, some pre-packed bottles (I'm not going to be BF), some dummies. For myself I got some slippers. I'm not really decided on what to wear during labour yet so still need to sort that out.

Also, what is the difference between maternity pads and sanitary towels? Are they not the same thing or are the maternity pads a bit more hardcore?
  • I love OBEM too, I watched it before I had DS and I found it very informative, it didn't scare me at all, although I can understand that it might scare some women. I was so scared of giving birth last time that I found it helped to watch it as I really don't know what to expect so I learnt a bit more by watching it.
I make OH laugh though, because I'll sit there saying "oh poor woman" if it's a difficult birth and he'll looking at me with a puzzled face and say "but yours was worse than that". Bless him I think he's still traumatised but it doesn't bother me at all. I usually cry everytime the baby is born, it's a great programme!

I took some cheap button up Matalan nighties for DS' birth but ended up in a hospital gown. Not sure what I'll take to wear this time as hoping for a waterbirth. Will take button up nighties again in case of non-waterbirth, I don't own bikinis only swimsuits due to being on the large side pre-pregnancy, but might just wear a bra, or bra and t-shirt maybe if I do get to have a waterbirth.

I found maternity pads to be like bricks but no more absorbent than the Always Ultra Night with wings, so switched back to sanitary towels pretty quickly.

Thanks for all the nice comments about my bump :)

I'm not worried about the weight gain for me personally but I'm worried I'm growing a big baby and as I'm a first time mum it's making me worry about labour :o OH and MIL have both said he had a big head and that coupled with me being my mums heaviest out of 4 and already putting on more now than my mum did full term is just putting the frighteners on me a bit.

    I need to chill out :D !!!

my friend was induced due to being overdue and reports that her baby howled for the first few days as he was hungry. No-one apparently suggested formula at first as they wanted her to bf ut she wasn't making enough for him. Then when they did suggest it they had expected her to bring formula and bottles.

Hey Impulse - congrats! We also have a 12-24 week thread if you'd like to join us too and have a foot in both camps? Otherwise no worries - people just stay where they are happiest - no rules!

    Welcome Impulse :)

I keep forgetting - am I the only home birther? I need a transfer bag list but it won;t need as much stuff as a hospital birth bag list and I wondered if anyone already had one.

Off to hang out some washing now and then do some alterations to a prom dress for my client. DD is at a playdate after school so I have till 5pm to get things done - bliss!

Hope you enjoyed your free time! I'm also planning a home birth. Had a home birth with DS but transferred in afterwards, so I did need the bag. It wasn't until a while after I got there that I realised I had no toothbrush, toothpaste or hairbrush, and also no camera... So having at least some kind of toiletries bag ready for you, plus your clothes, baby bits and lots of food packed is definitely a good idea!

hi all, I was glad I chose to take a flexi day yesterday for the rest. was back today and was again hit by the heat. This time it gave me a touch of the runs :( but sadly that made a temporary nice change from the permanent constipation I've been suffering from.

I will also be bottle feeding my baby, after what my sister went through with her first. I did get a bit freaked out about whether my hospital still provided them, but her friend is a midwife and she said that they still do provide it at our hospital, she didn't mention it only being available to those who try and fail BF first though.
after being career minded and giving every ounce of my energy to work for the duration of my pregnancy so far I've made the decision that if I'm too exhausted then I'm too exhausted. I need to get stuff done at home to get ready for the baby so I can't spend my entire time at home asleep so they will have to put up with me working my normal hours and if a job doesn't get done, then it doesn't get done! Just need to follow through with it, though I do have a maternity meeting with my manager next week so will be telling her what I've decided. If my dad, whose register blind, can tell I'm looking exhausted then I think it's official!
I have to admit that I'm dreading this summer though in our office which has no air con, and two entire walls full of windows.
I'm still being an ostrich about giving birth, we have some cabbages in a veggie patch in our garden and I'm sure that's where i'll be finding the baby when she's ready to meet us!
