Lemontree - I think LailaPs bag comes in other colours.
The boots bag is ok (I use it for my toddler) but found it too small when he was a baby. Also everyone had them at baby groups so make sure you put a toy or something on yours to easy identify it.Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."Official DFW Nerd 1365

Boots bag worked fine for us too (and is still working - DS takes it off to the childminders and we use it whenever we go out). Good idea about the toy Glimmer. We had a Thomas the Tank Engine fob on ours, through the zip. Unfortunately that part of the zip broke off! Still, it's now distinctive because it has a broken zip end....0

Hello ladies,
Was hoping to post more often once I was on maternity leave but have had a banging headache all week so have been reading but not posting, I think it's the lack of sleep combined with being at home all day with the world's noisiest 3 year old!
firey - I've borrowed a breast pump from a friend, she wasn't able to use it as her little one wouldn't take to a bottle so it's new really. In reality she won't want it back as she's not planning on having any more children, and if she did ever need it I'd probably buy her a new one (I do already have a breast pump, the same one actually Phillips Avent electric but I used it that often after having DS it's a bit knackered so decided I wanted a new one).
I'm quite lucky in that many of my friends have had children around the same time so we all pass things on amongst ourselves if they are in good condition.
Hope you manage to get your blood pressure and the bees sorted.
cmace can you google the make of your breast pump and see if there's an online guide?
I notice a couple of comments about not being supposed to express for 6 weeks after giving birth, but when I had DS the hospital had me expressing immediately. It might be because he was born by emergency c-section and smaller than average and also lost weight quite quickly, going down to 5lbs 12oz at one point despite being born at 40+1. So, I would breast feed him, but he would also need top ups inbetween the main feeds, but we used this little tiny cup thing rather than a bottle for his top ups. That said he did take a bottle quite early on, but he would only take it off somebody else, if I tried to give him an expressed bottle he must have been able to smell milk on me and would try to attach to my breast! I was quite poorly after having him so our families helped out a lot coming over and looking after him so I would express a few bottles worth so I could get some uninterrupted rest.
Welcome Dinah - hope your little man stays put for a while yet.
hope all your attempts to get baby to come out work soon sunshine. I see you haven't posted for a few days so maybe baby is on the way? exciting!
bluebell and scotsbride hope you both get the work finished on your houses in time!
glad your growth scan went well credit_crunch. I've also had ketones in my urine several times, I have gestational diabetes and the consultant thinks the ketones are due to my body thinking it is being starved (although I do not starve myself I did used to eat a lot of sugary food which I don't now).
We'll probably get a moses basket for baby to sleep in until she goes into the cot, but I don't see any reason why newborns can't go straight in the cot, as they don't roll over or change position when very small, just move their arms and legs. A moses basket is good because you can move it to whichever room you are in, but if we were downstairs DS used to nap in his pram.
Sorry to hear about your SIL and neice, I hope your SIL is getting all the support she needs.
skintchick nobody has been rude to me but I do get a lot of comments about my size, none of them are meant nastily though. I've been told I look ready to pop by a colleague (I was 30 weeks at the time), been asked how many days I have left to go by a waiter (I was 32+4), and one colleague asked 'you won't get any bigger than this will you, you couldn't possibly get any bigger could you?' this was at about 33 weeks and asked by a lady who weighs over 23 stone so it wasn't meant in a maicilous way as she wouldn't be nasty about anyone's size as she's sensitive about her own, she genuinely believed I couldn't get any bigger and was shocked to hear then I almost douibled in size in the last 4 weeks when expecting DS so yes I imagine I will be getting a lot bigger. Most of my close friends and family are all commenting on how well I'm looking and how neat my bump is but they remember how massive I was with DS (I had polyhydramnios so the excess water made me massive, luckily I haven't got it so far this time).
I was struggling to walk in the office due to my chair being uncomfy so I did get a lot of comments about waddling too. The comments don't bother or upset me though, although I do find it strange that it's acceptable to comment on the size of a pregnant woman to her face but you wouldn't necessarily comment on the size of a fat person, for example I'd never ask my 23stone+ colleague if she could possibly get any bigger!
On the plus side, when I was still commuting by train I had a lot of people offer their seat to me when the train was packed.
glimmer hope you manage to find a sling that works for you.
anyname hope you bloods come back OK from the GTT and you enjoy your time away.
derby glad the hospital have checked you out, hope the scan shows everything is OK.
welcome LailaP the bag you were bought looks lovely!
Hope I haven't missed anyone!
AFM, 35+3 now, all was fine at my midwife appointment last week, baby's heartbeat is 140bpm, she doesn't measure my bump as I have growth scans. Blood sugars seem to be under control once again, although every time I say that they go off the scale again! Headache seems to have finally gone, yay. My Braxton Hicks got very painful and to about 12 minutes apart on Friday night and I was umming and ahhing about whether to ring the hospital or not as being high risk I have to ring as soon as I think I've gone into labour, luckily they stopped when I got in bed. I've not even looked at the maternity bag list yet let alone packed a bag so I better start getting a move on. I'm the world's worst at procrastinating though, I can find plenty of unimportant things to do, but seem to leave anything important until last minute!
We've still got a few things we need to buy for baby too. OH has a day off tomorrow so hopefully we'll go shopping and get everything sorted. My next growth scan is a week on Tuesday and it's then they'll decide if I can go to 40 weeks or if I need to be induced at 38 weeks or sooner. As 38 weeks is only 2 weeks on Friday and I'm not ready yet I'm hoping I can go to 40 weeks!0 -
AM hope they let you go to 40 weeks and that you get your bag sorted soon.
I seem to be procrastinating at the moment as well, I've been so busy worrying about workloads at work that it kind of bypassed me until sunday that I've 15 weeks to go and almost no progress has been made on sorting out the nursery.
unfortunately doing that yesterday and a week of visitors beforehand left me exhausted today, so I came home at lunch time.
Hope we're not in for a hot summer, the temps at the moment are making me feel icky and dizzy and it's not even really hot. Only just managed to pull in on the driveway after driving home today before I was throwing up which I put down to the heat.0 -
Oh what an unimaginable thing Creditcrunch. So sorry for your family's loss xx
Skintchick, I am sick of people saying I am huge! I am 26+4 and got my FH measured for the first time last Wednesday. I measured 26 cm and have gained a 13lb which is apparently just fine! I have started to feel the extra weight and heaviness of the bump in the last few days. Peoples comments did not bother me at first as I was quite proud and wanted a bump but it did not take long for them to grind on me! I think people do it because they don't know what else to say tbh... Like when people say how is married life treating you, just after you get married. Now it is 'the bumps coming along'... I only saw you three days ago gggrrr! (OMG that turned to a rant lol)
LailaP that bag is so lovely!! I might have to look at one of those in person. See how red it is as my pram is bright red!
Ooohh Good luck AM, I hope you get to 40 weeks
Ugh I can not wait to get to 30 weeks, feel like I have been mid 20's for years!0 -
Aqua - they don't actually "let" you do anything. It's your choice to make based on your personal level of risk, so you don't have to be induced if you don't want to and you feel it's better for you not to be. Do your own research.
And yes if you have an early baby or low weight baby they will get you expressing immediately, but if you have a term birth with no complications, then the risks of expressing (nipple confusion, bottle preference) are not worth it. It's better to get your supply established in the first six weeks. But there are always exceptions, and it has to be a decision based on the baby's need. Preemies are a special case and require very different treatment, and we might also say to express for a child with a severe tongue tie, who cannot effectively transfer milk by themselves. But generally, with a full term baby with no issues, it is better not to express before six weeks. wow aquamarine that was a mammoth post! hehe
here's hoping your growth scan goes well. maybe if they do decide they would like to induce you at 38 weeks it will give you the kick to get everything ready! I finally finished my hospital bag today, god only knows what it's got in it, it's like a mary poppins bag ha.
it's interesting reading about other people's comments about their bumps, I can't believe people just say these things! I thought I had escaped any comments but today I was in Asda and the lady asked me how long I had to go and then proceeded to tell me my bump was lobsided! erm...thank you?! I didn't know what to say ha!
37+5 today, feeling pretty massive and tired, but I suppose that's to be expected0 -
Hi ladies
Just popping in to say hello and can I join you, 24wks today!Baby on board - EDD 29th Sept0 -
hi lollypopswater0

Oh gosh I was so sorry to read about your niece Credit_Crunch, that's awful. I hope your poor SIL and brother are hanging in there
.
Hello and welcome Lollypopswater!
Lovely bag LailaPWe have got the freebie Boots one so far, hoping to trade up when we know what we need. We are going to be using reusables, and I keep reading online recommendations for these mammoth bags. Need to get my head around whether we really need one so large! I'm still in the pre-kids mindset of travelling light.
Aqua, I've also had two evenings of intense braxton hicks going up to about 6 or 7 per hour. They're very annoying and uncomfortable, aren't they? They give me mega heartburn. I hope they don't come back again. Good luck with the growth scan
38 weeks today for me, it's SO nice to get to this stage. I don't think baby is on its way anytime soon though. The Dr measured me as less engaged yesterday - hope that baby isn't going backwards. OH stops work next Monday and I'd love a few days alone together. But hoping not to go overdue, as induction means no birth centre. This is my second day of maternity 'leave' (as unemployed now). It's amazing, I'm enjoying it so much! :j
Sorry to hear that people are getting mean comments about their bumps. People should mind their own business a bit more
Hugs to all x:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0
