Great news sunshine
Always seems crazy to me they can refuse you the birth centre because you could then in theory say "well I'll have a home birth then" which they can;t refuse and would probably be even more freaked out about!
And I'm so glad you mentioned chocolate as I remembered I bought some Dairy Milk this morning and had forgotten to eat it!:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

yay good news sunshine
you know what I have no idea whether I'm giving birth at the birth centre or on the delivery suite, they've never mentioned it at any of my appointments. Iv also never discussed a birth plan. has anybody else around my weeks done that? I'm 35+1 today! I'm guessing maybe at my 36 week appointment?
sunshine you have inspired me to ask my OH to bring me home some milkybar buttons to cheer myself up, I'm feeling sorry for myself today after getting another terrible cold! that's 2 in 2 months. also got horrible earache which iv never had before, not sure what you're meant to do for ear ache!
had my last antenatal class last night, I felt quite emotional like argh that's it I'm on my own now! no more lessons or advice?! hehe. OH made me laugh by saying that's it now, after 3 weeks of antenatal classes he's now qualified to be a dad apparently. ha.0 -
I don;t suppose I could ask people to choose choclate other than MilkyBar?

Nestle really are an awful company causing baby deaths around the world through their unethical practices. I've boycotted them for years.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Someone else needs to make some decent white chocolate!
I mustn't be intelligent enough to fully 'get' the issue... is it basically about them trying to sell their baby milk products over breastmilk? It's a sticky one... I spent a year in East Africa at an orphanage and for orphaned and abandoned babies Nestle's Lactogen was all we could get hold of (at extortionate costs I might add) and that effectively saved their lives. It was run by an English couple so they could ensure the water and equipment used was sanitary. Hmmm it's a bit of a sticky one...
I've stopped sulking now about the birth centre rigmarole and started looking for the last few bits we need for lil HB. Has anyone found a good, cheap changing bag? We are sadly on a tight budget! Currently looking at these three:

Firey, Ive just had my 36 week appointment and birth plan wasn't really mentioned (it seems my midwifes attitude is stipulate whatever you want but be prepared for it to go out of the window) but that might be because we got stuck on the birth centre issue. I have printed off the blank NHS birth plan which is pretty concise and filled it in. I've got to see my midwife again next week so she can put in my notes about the birth centre so I assume/hope she'll write about birth plan too x
NHS birth plan tool is here: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/birth-plan.aspx0 -
Very good Sunshine! Yay! :j :j :j
I've got my risk assessment at the birthing centre on Monday. Not sure if they will have my blood tests by then as they only got done today. In the old tests my iron is over the magic 10 (haemoglobin anyway is 11.7) but ferritin is low at 16. Big fingers crossed as I would much prefer to go there if at all possible.
Fiery, the mw told me that the birthing centre would go over my birth plan on Monday, but I'm not sure if that will still happen if I'm not allowed to go there?? It's weird, isn't it - everyone seems to make a big deal about it but it just gets ignored in appointmentsThere's an NHS online questionnaire that my OH and I went through last night - nice to have some prompts to think through what we wanted.
Skinty - glad you had a great holiday. Not sure I'd have the same problem forgetting about chocolate:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
Oh that's fab new Sunshine, glad to hear you have the opportunity to give birth where you want. I was going to say just remember it's all over in a matter of hours and once your little one is here it won't matter how they arrived!! What does HB stand for? I like the sound of him responding to stern words with a kick.
Firey - I think I prompted my discussions about wanting to go to the birth centre and my birth plan with my midwife last time. 36 weeks sounds about right though - by that stage they probably have a rough idea whether you will be low risk. I still have my birth plan from last time, might just re use it lol! It's only this time around I noticed there is a place for it in my notes!0 -
Glad you are able to go to the birth centre sunshine
My birth centre is stand alone but they can get you to a main hospital in 7 minutes....
Ive never discussed a birth plan (other than where I want to give birth and that is booked at 12 weeks!) in all 3 pregnancies. Im with it enough to research everything for myself but considering how often it gets mentioned - my midwives haven't seemed bothered! Im lucky to have had straight forward births so far so haven't had to challenge/decide anything of note - although have always taken the injections after birth (for placenta and something else) Am well aware that anything can happen in a birth situation though - and as Im obviously older now than with DD1 risks do increase, although Im hoping for one of these super speedy 3rd births that I read about!0 -
I wrote a birth plan with my first; but went out the window pretty quick as when we got there all the water birth suites were busy. But the mw read it and took on board our wishes Re pain relief natural 3rd stage etc.
probably should write one for this birth aswell.Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. HB stands for heartbeat, we had an early scan at 8 weeks (as I couldn't believe pregnancy was really happening to me!) and we just saw this tiny shape that looked like half a ying and yang sign measuring about 1cm, but no matter how much the sonographer zoomed out you could see this strong heartbeat flickering away. We got in the car and just stared at the scan pic and kept saying 'it's a little heartbeat'. Little Heartbeat became bumps name, and we just shorten it now to Little HB or just HB!
My I have got verbal diarrhoea today! :rotfl:0 -
Sunshine that is lovely. We nicknamed our 1st pop as he was the size of at one stage.
Guessing no news from Marywoohyeah and Vickyvics means that are having baby cuddles :-)Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.
