  • welcome gemguin, sorry to hear you've been poorly, hope you start to feel better soon.

Disney I'm taking my maternity leave at 34 weeks (next friday, yay :) ), but I work in an office so I'm sat down a lot, but my commute can be up to 2 hours each way and it's more the commuting that I'm struggling with. That said I can't wait to be at home relaxing. I say relaxing but I'm not sure how relaxing it will be with an energetic 3 year old to entertain. With DS I had a really difficult pregnancy and went on maternity leave at 29 weeks, if I didn't work in an office I'd have done the same this time.

i've had awful backache a couple of times and foudn that doing some gentle open twists (yoga) really helped. If you look at this link it shows the kind of twist that I found helpful, but I put my hand on my knee and don;t hold the wall.
    http://www.yogajournal.com/images/article/AR_250_02_fnl.jpg

Basically, sit on the floor with your legs out in front.
Take one leg over the other, knee bent, and foot on the floor next to the other knee.
Then twist your spine (not your neck) gently and slowly in the direction of the foot on the floor (so if left leg is bent, turn right).
If left leg is bent, put left arm inside the leg and hand on your straight knee). Put other hand beside you close to your body to help you keep upright.
Keep your back upright and don;t lead with the shoulders, breathe deeply and exhale through any pain.
hold as deep and as long as comfortable.
    do on other side.
    Repeat.

This might help - it really helped release my back :)

    Welcome Gemguin

I've just realised I have a friend's wedding to go to on June 7 and no dress to wear! I like tight dresses that show off the bump rather than flowy ones that make me look huge - anyone got any ideas? I have almost no money so need cheap. Have tried eBay but nothing much on there that I fancy. I wear blue or green, definitely no black, grey or beige, and am size 10 pre-pg so maybe a 12 now.

welcome gemguin...aww bless you hope you feel better soon.

    Happy due date chelseablue!

Skintchick haven't really got any suggestions re dress, my first thoughts when you said cheap were matalan asda and tesco but after a quick look there doesn't seem to be anything fitting what you want. I haven't looked at them properly, but ASOS maternity have 400+ dresses and many in the sale, so if you search price low-high maybe you'll find something you need?

I had to show you all this dress while we were on topic though, I got it for a party at my cousins house and I love it! Showed off the bump, was light and comfortable and flattering for my size 18 self. I love Red Herring dresses pregnant or not! http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_119020212160_-1
  • Love the dress sunshine, its something I would wear myself

Thanks Skintchick - the pain is getting worse (which it did last time - and then disappeared!) its exhausting me. I couldn't go and collect my daughters from school yesterday (Theres a bit of a trek from the car to the school) and Im dreading half term if Im feeling like this!
So Ive gone from not looking forward to giving birth again to wanting this baby out so that I can reclaim my body.! - 39 weeks tomorrow :)

I like that dress Sunshine - for some reason maxis have never looked right on me, but I like them on other people! Im looking forward to wearing non pregnancy clothes now...I may have done a cheeky Next order to get some light summer trousers with elasticated waists (tapered style ones) - non maternity. Ive always been out of maternity fairly quickly so hoping I am this time as well!!! Will be selling it all on - as this one is definitely my last! x

Today is going to be a chocolate day.

Just been to community midwife for my 36 week appointment, told her about the whole birth centre issue, how everyone (including her!) has said as long as everything is OK I can go to the birth centre despite being a BMI of 37 when their BMI limit is 35. And everything else is OK. Now she's umming and aahing over it herself, so flipping peed off, she is going to ring the consultant midwife at hospital, speak to her and then get her to ring me in the next few days. It's really wound me up, I'm just left in limbo again. I know it might not seem such a big deal but it is to me it's like the little choices you get in birth are being taken away. I actually am crying into my milkybar buttons right now, what happened to encouraging active natural birth and all that.

On another note, little HB is 4/5 engaged! (apparently it goes downward so 1/5 is more engaged than 4/5)! Apparently they can be engaged for weeks before, however I have had stern words with him in the car telling him he cannot come out until his grandparents come back from Greece on the 31st May. He gave me a swift kick!

oh that's not good Sunshine.... I know a little about how you must feel as I was told at about 35ish weeks that I couldn't go to birth centre unless my iron levels went up (mw had never said that before) - luckily she tested them and they had gone up to 11 (10 is the magic no apparently) so I am now allowed to phone the birth centre when I go into labour. I really hope that you get the birth you want x
With birth centres they want the most straight forward births especially if they are stand alone- so need to minimize risk for themselves. My rational self told myself this but its still v frustrating when you are borderline.
I was engaged 3/5 at last apt - but I think on subsequent births they pop in and out! As you are on your first sounds like yours is digging its way into position...

Thanks sophiasmum... the birth centre here isn't standalone it's adjacent to the delivery suite, and I have openly said I accept that there may be circumstances in which I have to move but currently they only have my BMI to go off and since I've taken aspirin as they asked and have nil problems except the BMI I don't see how they can use that as a sole deciding factor, everything except BMI suggests my birth should be straight forward (and you never know with any woman whether her birth will be straight forward or not). I wish I wasn't big chested, I have been gradually growing from a DD at age 15 and no matter how much weight I have lost or gained they have continued to grow, so if they take off the boob weight my BMI will fit their criteria lol x

I'll shut up now before I sound like a broken record ha x

Ha ha community midwife just rang, she spoke to the birth centre and the consultant midwife and I am fine to deliver at the birth suite... phew. I have obsessive thoughts and I had blown it out of some proportion as the delivery suite is pleasant enough but I have a number of reasons I just wanted this to be right...

Shame it's cost me about 600 kcal in giant white chocolate buttons though!
