  • Hope you are ok Daisy and the bleeding has settled down.

I really wanted a lie in this morning, but woke up at 7am, desperate for a pee and with the baby dancing a jig. Trouble is, once I am out of bed the dog demands his breakfast, so no lie in for me!

I think baby is going to like music- certain tunes on the radio set it off wriggling, and last night OH was playing his guitar, and baby starting jigging around! I have warned him, when baby arrives and won't settle he will have to play it to sleep!

I am AB+ though they did find some red cell antibodies in my booking in bloods which had to be sent off for further investigation. Seemed to be ok in the end, they just said they will need to test my blood again later in the pregnancy and test the baby's blood when it is born. I did mention it to doctors etc when I was bleeding but no one seemed bothered about it.

Does everyone else have their blood group written on the front of their notes? The mw did not put it on at my appt yesterday and I was wondering if I should write it on or if it doesn't matter. Also there is a box for 'final agreed EDD' - it seemed to say that that is generated from the 12 week scan but again she didn't fill it in so wondering if they wait until the 20 week scan?

Also...finally!...as I will be having this scan on Tuesday now when I will be 17+5 do you think (obviously if everything else looks fine) they will be able to see the sex? We did have a private gender scan booked for next weekend but we have cancelled it now, because we had to rearrange plans we had for this weekend to next weekend in light of the bleeding etc this week.

I woke up feeling terrible this morning. Sick, dizzy, exhausted. I think I am 'crashing' after the worry of the last couple of days when the adrenaline was getting me through. I am still in bed. We have a plasterer here doing the ceiling in what will be the baby's room (I feel a bit funny about doing it before seeing all is ok on the scan on Tuesday, but we did hear the heartbeat so I am hoping that was a good sign - and he is really busy so if we had cancelled wouldn't have been able to do it for ages). Hubby has been up since 7am rushing around doing chores, trying to tackle the laundry mountain from getting back from holiday, doing grocery shopping, housework etc....I feel so guilty and lazy just lying in bed but I feel drained and knackered :( I wish he could just relax too - there is nothing that can't wait - but he is not very good at that.

Anyway sorry this was going to be a quick message and turned into a long one! Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Gosh Daisy, the hospital sound a bit rubbish. I can't believe they didn't even try to find the heartbeat. Glad the midwife did, I'm sure it didn't put your mind at rest entirely but hopefully it did a bit. I know there's a couple of people who recently had babies who had unexplained bleeding at various points and everything was fine. Hoping that Tuesday comes round quickly for you, and you can relax a bit in the meantime (easier said than done I'm sure). x

Thank you :) yes the hospital did not really fill me with confidence. The midwives from the other hospital are much better. In fact they are from over your way so I wonder if it is your hospital they come from! Still the hospital is 10 mins away from my house which will probably be welcome when it comes to going into labour, at least. I did ask and the only other place where I could deliver would be the Rosie in Cambridge, which I know is meant to be very nice, but it is an hour away in clear roads and more if I went into labour during rush hour and had to get up the M11! So I think there is no option but to stick with the hospital we are at and hope their EPU is not an indication of what they will be like for delivery...
  • Daisy, i have my blood type on my file but it's b neg so they need to be aware in case of bleeds etc. for the anti-d. Positive blood types (85% of population) they don't really worry about as you won't form antibodies to baby (unless there's something very rare going on!) and it won't risk future pregnancies. I don't know if they can or will check gender on a scan to make sure everythings alright but it's always worth asking. I assume this will be in addition to your scheduled 20 week nhs scan so even if they can't/ won't check at least you've not got long until it comes around...

Also they base your final due date on the 20 week scan- it's when you get your mat b1 form (for mat benefits) and that's the date they stick at so it can change from 12 week scan. When I asked my consultant (been stacking up overtime in work to boost mat pay so needed to know!) how much it tends to vary she said not a lot but it can move by a few days either way.

Take care of yourself and have a nice rest!

Thank you for the very helpful replies :) I suppose I was thinking way ahead and wondering if something went terribly wrong during delivery wouldn't they need to know your blood type in case they had to give you a transfusion? Anyway it is ages away yet so I can just ask the midwife next time if it needs to be on there!

I am hoping this will be in addition to my 20 week scan rather than replacing it - no one has said otherwise. I know they won't be actively looking for the sex at this scan but just wondered if it would be obvious and if everything else was ok, maybe they would be able to tell us. It is not a big deal at all anyway as our 20 week scan will only be two weeks later. Just wondered :)

Thanks again for the replies to my questions!
  • Been quite busy so just been lurking but wanted to give you my support Daisiegg. I had to wait a couple of days for an epu appt with my 10ek bleed and that seemed like an eternity so can't imagine how you are feeling.

I thought being further on they would be quicker but it seems I was wrong.

    Take care xx

  • Worst case scenario if they needed to transfuse and didn't know your blood type they'd transfuse you with o neg as it's the universal blood type (no antibodies on the cell so there's nothing in it for your own immune system to react to). I know in my file there's a page dedicated to blood results (hiv, rubella, hep, blood type etc) and as that's what you're *supposed* to have with you (I keep forgetting mine, may have to start wearing it on a chain or something!) I wouldn't worry about the info. It's all on the hospital system too and blood typing in labs is pretty quick now- I think it's about 5 mins if they put an emergency order on it.

It's mad the things you find to worry about- i've really started freaking out about placenta. I hate the stuff anyway but now it's bringing me out in a cold sweat! :)

This scan should be aswell as your 20 week scan. Remember to ask about the sex as we got told they won't tell you unless you ask. We also got told that it was our 12 week due date that would stick and they wouldn't. change it from then so I think it varies at different hospitals.

Hi ladies, I'm popping in to thank the person who mentioned the FB baby sell pages. I signed up and found out about a local mum2mum sell event near home. I came back with 31 unisex items of clothes including an all in 1 winter suit, pair of shoes and loads of body suits and sleep suits, plus 2 maternity tops - all for £17.

They also gad a lot of baby gyms but I don't need one.
