Popped into the chemist today and picked up my first bottle of gaviscon free under the minor ailments scheme. Will be cracking it open just shortly. Think alien is telling me to lay off the spicy foods

In Scotland we get free prescriptions. They also run the minor ailments scheme for over the counter stuff for kids that you can get for free, and being pregnant aswell as getting any prescriptions for free I can also register for the scheme until the wee one is a year old. I just took my exemption certificate in with me, they took a note of the details and handed me a bottle. Not sure if it applies outwith Scotland and you can only register to use it with one pharmacy but it might be worth checking. My sister went through many many bottles when she was pregnant, hopefully I'm not going to be the same!

Latest bargains.....met with a woman yesterday to pick up 2 sleeping bags I'd bought for a total of £4.70 on eBay and she also handed me a bag with a wedge pillow, 2 blankets, hat, bib, and bootee, and 2 packs of brand new washable maternity briefs (these are a size 10-12 and too small for me so if anyone wants them I'd gladly pass them on). This was all neutral stuff and totally free! What a lovely lady

I have a question, Daisie you might be able to help with this, aswell as other posters who have been on hols.

We go away every June to Italy for a week (just me and DH and a whole bunch of friends) and this year we also had a week booked in October to take one of the step kids on holiday (other 2 are gong with their mum). Now obviously we had to move that one as I'm due the week we were going to be away and I wasn't prepared to lose £600 deposit!!!
The only time we could go is we the week before we're in Italy and take the boy out of school for the week (I hate doing this and wouldn't normally but this year I see it as exceptional circumstances as neither me or DH can get time off in July or August when schools are off).
Anyway, DH has travel insurance through his bank account which covers us all, but, I was thinking about getting a more comprehensive one just for me, for the just in case factor. Can anyone recommend a decent policy that would be good for Gran canaria and Italy?

Hi,
holiday insurance wise, I went away at 18 weeks to france and 24 weeks to Portugal and I get travel insurance through my bank. I rung them expecting to pay extra or not to be covered. They literally couldnt have cared less and said I was fully covered. I dont think the whole holiday insurance/pregnancy situation is complicated unless you have a pre existing condition, which you probably wouldn't get cover from anyone anyway.
And for people wondering about the minor aliments it does exist in England but nhs website is very unhelpful as to which pharmacys run it, im off to try my luck at a large boots, im going through gaviscon like its going out of fashion....

We are the same regarding holiday insurance - we have it through hubby's bank. We just called up before going and they said yes that is absolutely fine, pregnancy is all covered, no problem. We too thought maybe we should get another policy but it seems we really didn't need to.

I am having loads of gaviscon tablets (actually I am having tums at the moment that we bought in the US but I think it is the same thing) but I cannot take the liquid. Even just talking about this makes me gag, but during the first trimester I had very bad sickness and also kept getting heartburn and I tried the gaviscon liquid. I was immediately soooooo sick and I was bringing up loads of weird voluminous bright yellow foam. I looked online and discovered that the way gaviscon liquid works is by creating a layer of foam on top of your stomach so that acid can't rise up. I'm sure it's fine if you are not about to be sick but bringing it up was really,really, really unpleasant! So it has put me off completely. Tablets it is for me!

Last night was the first time I'd had the liquid. It was......interesting. It worked for me though and I managed to sleep.

Speaking of which, I had a massage yesterday. If I sleep like that after a massage I need to have one every day! Woke up in bits today though! Lol

Thanks re the travel insurance, will get him to check with the bank just incase and will go from there bug sounds like I wont need anything else

For anywhere in the EU you would be entitled to medical treatment if you have that card. Can't remember what it's called but it used to be the E111. Hopefully you know what I'm on about :rotfl:
