    Hi ladies

hope everyone is keeping well, sorry been totally awol, I had a stupid cold and my sickness came back with a vengeance so spent the last week and a bit feeling pretty sorry for myself lol. It seems to be over now so happy days!

I'm a bit worried about my weight, I plucked up the courage to weigh myself thinking I should have started to put on the stone I lost in the first 12 weeks but I have in fact lost another 3 pounds. I know I should be putting on weight at this point and it's not like I'm trying to lose it but my appetite is just shot to pieces, I guess my body will put weight on when its ready and properly over the sickness?

Also had my results back from my downs syndrome tests (nuchal fold and blood) and I'm low risk at 1:16500 phew.

I'm currently enjoying a game of thrones marathon in preparation for the new season, DH is away in France so I have to do something to pass the time! Season 3 blueray should be here tomorrow yay!

I think thats all my news I shall have a read back and see how you've all been getting on

    hugs to all x

£3 that's amazing!! I like that rose one and it's normally £30 whereas the normal ones are about £25.

We got the mirror chassis from mothercare, as kiddicare is an hours drive from us, so just incase something were to go wrong it's easy for me to get to a store, but the carry cot was cheaper from kiddicare so ordered that from there & clicked on quidco first to get cash back!

Got the grape colour pack (but not really seen any amazing deals on these) from mothercare, so more quidco cash back, and the apron too. I don't think kiddicare had these on their website just other colours like lime & red.

Then got the car seat adaptors from baby lurve. And then the pink carry cot cover from Debenhams Plus as no where else had pink!

When we were in kiddicare (we went once to try out buggys and look At furniture) I saw a reduced I think dalmation buggy pack! They seem to reduce random items in there, maybe display ones or something?!

yeah the lady who told us about the black rose carry cot cover pack said they found loads in the back so they were selling them off cheap! you'd think they'd reduce them to like £10 though not £3 when they are meant to be £30! I wish id found a Dalmatian one, it's a dream hehe.

I forgot about getting a matching apron you know. I was also confused when I got the pram out and the seat had no hood! but then I realised you get the hood with the colour pack. you'd think it would come with a plain black one though?

  • purcy I didn't have much sickness at all but from like weeks 12-18 I had no appetite at all, I became really picky (I lived on Special K for a week!) and even stuff that I usually like I went right off it! my appetite has come back now though with a vengeance! maybe you could mention it to your midwife about your weight, to put your mind at ease?

I don't know if iv lost/gained weight as I don't have scales and don't even know what I weighed exactly before I got pregnant. ignorance is bliss :D everybody keeps saying how small my bump is though, I don't know it feels huge to me haha.

You've got plenty of time to put the weight back on. I lost around a stone in the first trimester. I'm now 34, almost 35 weeks and am now just about back up to my pre pregnancy weight!
I've not been weighed at all since my booking appointment and as long as you were under weight to start with you should be ok.
Mention it to your mw if you're still concerned, but just think of it as a helping hand for popping back into shape after baby arrives!:D

Edited to say, bump is measuring at the 90th centile on the graph!! So no concern that baby is too small either.

  • Purcy - I have lost about a stone since getting pregnant! And as I had a high BMI to start with my consultant is actually pleased! Though going off even favourite foods, constant nausea for 4 months and still being occasionally sick (at 21 weeks now), wasn't (and still isn't) fun.

He's taking the odd step of weighing me again (they don't re weigh pregnant ladies round here), in case my BMI has dropped.

As for me, ^ I think I forgot to say that my Consultant appointment last week went so much better. I'll probably write too much here but skip or forgive me please.

I put my foot down about not seeing the trainee, and was happy to wait longer if needed... Well I was seen quickly, by the head consultant, and a nurse accompanied me (It was obvious she was keeping an eye on me).
He started by going over my notes, why I was there, and what we both needed form the session. (Wow! :) ) He's happy that I know why I'm on what meds, understand the risks etc. he's v happy I lost weight, and even says I don't look big enough to be taking the extra AdCAL! He isn't concerned (yet?) about my birth defect stomach muscles.

On leaving the nurse showed me out and pulled me aside. She actually apologised for what happened last time! And said they'd had a team de-brief about it to learn lessons! I was gob smacked!!! I had to stop myself crying!

At the front desk I handed my sheet in and asked for next to be booked. I asked for the consultant not the trainee, she said it wasn't possible... Then looked at my notes, saw that the nurse had annotated it clearly on who I was to see, and changed her mind! Then she gave me the consultants secretaries direct phone number!!

The appointment letter came in the post.... And he dosnt want to see me until June!! I'm so very happy! :)

Very exciting to have ordered your prams Firey and Claire!!! I'm absolutely dying to. The Babystyle Oyster looks lovely :) Ah the terms you end up knowing in this pregnancy lark - who knew what a 'colour pack' was before?! Lol.

We got a lovely moses basket and stand from the Gum_tree this weekend for £20. It is so clean and new, the couple were both from outside the UK and did a lot of travelling, so they said it only got used for a few weeks. It's so sweet and tiny. We also picked up a cot given to us by some friends, but it's not in the best condition, with some cracking. They have also gaffer taped over the screws because they explained that they come out sometimes? I'm not really sure it's okay to use it? Or perhaps I am being too sensitive. My sister has one but she's in Scotland and we're in London so I'm not sure how much it would be to transport it. Hmmmm! Decisions, decisions.

OH and I also had a sort of row / tense chat which is unlike us :( Feeling a bit bad about it.

I'm so glad to hear your consultant appointment went well Robots :) Sounds like they are taking on board your concerns which is really nice to see.

Ebay.... you could go mad switching colours about!

yeah I thought the pram came with a black hood and the colour pack was just an optional extra? Good job I bought one then!!
  • Hi everyone,

I had no choice about which Down's test to have, I don't think. I was offered "the Downs test" and it was a combination of bloods + scan. I also haven't been told an actual number for the risk - just that the risk is low. It's funny how much variation there is in how things are done in different parts of the country!

Well done to those who have bought prams etc. - I'm putting off buying anything until after the 20 week scan, but I've started looking and feel bemused by the whole thing!

Robots - glad things worked out well with the consultant. Here's hoping you carry on seeing that one!

AFM - we had a mad dash to the EPU at the weekend. Short version: Everything's fine. TMI alert: I "passed" something solid and pinkish when I went to the loo a day or two ago. Cue panic! Went to the EPU, where they checked vitals and reassured me. Then got the doppler out to listen for baby's heart beat. It took about 15 seconds I think to find it (longest 15 seconds ever!) but it was there and all is fine. They don't know what happened, but as far as they can tell me and bump are both fine, and it hasn't happened again since then. Panic over...

Has anyone else not really "come out" about being pregnant yet? We've told close family and very close friends (semi-distant family don't know yet, and we've only told close friends if we've seen them), and I've told my line manager at work, but that's about it! The rationale was that because we know the pregnancy carries higher-than-average risk, we didn't want to say anything in case it all went wrong. But I'm over 19 weeks now, and it's becoming rather obvious! I think I'd rather tell people before they could tell by looking, but not sure how/when to go about it. How did everyone else decide? Or if you haven't yet, do you know when/how will you will tell people?

    Any thoughts?

Hope all's well in your respective corners!

  • has anyone booked their antenatal classes yet? I got told at my booking in appointment to book early (after 12 week scan) as the places on the free ones fill up quickly. I've emailed the hospital who run the free ones and shes told me to ask my community midwife about it, it was she who told me to email her. I'm going round in circles

Work is a nightmare our personnel is crap. They've know I was pregnant since week 5 as I've had a lot of bleeding. I had what I thought was a risk assessment at week 8 written on a scrappy bit of paper where I told them I did not want to work 9 hour shifts on my own (I work in retail on shopfloor its a lot of running, lifting, pulling and bending) I was ignored. It took an a and e visit after a lot of blood loss and a 4 week doctors fit note for the tills to be taken any notice of. It was only after then I was given a proper risk assessment by another manager. Then i was told I couldnt have any maternity trousers due to no money in the budget, well beans gonna out grow my trousers whether you like it or not.

Sorry for the rant work are really getting me down as my manager doesn't seem to understand all that I can't be on my feet 9 hours a day five days a week and it's because she has to do some work now.

Bumblebee I didn't tell a lot of people until after the 20 week scan incase anything was wrong. Close friends and family we told at the start, and others after the 12 week scan. I'm now 34 weeks and only just told some people I don't see often! So you're not the only one.
