  • Hi all, can I ask a general question - when does the morning sickness stop?! I'm 13 and a half weeks now and still spending every few days with head down the toilet, and my oh so supportive OH going 'what are you doing, your over the 1st trimester so stop being sick!' lol xx
  • hippihaz - just after the first trimester for me, about week 14 or 15 so hopefully not long to go for you now !
  • Re NCT classes (the paid for ones!)
We're not going to do these because (a) they cost ~£200 and (b) they're not particularly local to us so the benefits of making friends probably won't be useful if they don't live locally! I would rather spend the money on the local Mum&Baby groups which are local (in the nearest little villages to us)
We might do the NHS ones (which are run by the same people) and definitely hope to do the breastfeeding class.

We're going to look at Lazy Daisy which are a lot cheaper, have really good reviews and explore "active birth" etc. I really like the look of them and their ethos.

  • hippihaz, without wishing to put a downer on things, be prepared that it might go on for a little while yet.....
I still have the odd day now (and I'm 20+4) although I can usually trace it to being over-tired, slightly dehydrated, or if I've eaten/drunk something particularly acidic or sweet.
I'm sure yours will ease really soon though :p

  • My sickness stopped around week 14, I was clinging on to t stopping bang on week 12 but that didn't happen. Had the random bit since, only twice but both when I started work early & hadn't eaten before leaving the house, rushed into work, grabbed a slice of toast when I got there & promptly had to run to the loo! I'm 21+4 now & this hasn't happened for a couple of weeks. Hope it passes for you soon but I think if you have suffered it helps to be more aware of thirst/hunger as to not be left feeling ill again.

Hey, thanks everyone, will hang in there! to be fair it does seem to be settling a bit, but its always after a few days I think, ooh we might be getting there, then returns with a vengence - at least I can now travel in a car for over 10mins without throwing up lol. xx
  • Ah bless you, it's so horrible but it will get better. x
  • Hippihaz have you tried taking some biscuits up to bed to have as soon as you wake up? Might help if you feel sick when hungry like I was. I had nausea until about week 15 but had a couple of off days since and that's normally when I've smelt a really strong odour! Hope you feel better xxx

  • Can anyone tell me how I would find out about free antenatal classes or breastfeeding classes? Things aren't very organised in my area at all! Xxx

Your midwife should let you know what NHS classes are available in your area, and if she doesn't mention it then do ask. Mine gave me a form to fill in at my 25 week appointment then I was given the dates at the 28 week appointment. I have classes at 31 weeks, 32 weeks and 36 weeks but anyone expecting twins should start earlier. We decided not to do NCT because couldn't justify the cost when there are free ones available in our area plus we are having a private growth/doppler scan at 35 weeks so need to save the cash for that. I think they are a good idea if you need them outside of normal working hours i.e. if you are self employed and can't get paid time off.

My boss seemed a bit put out that I would be taking 2 afternoons off (the other is in the evening) to go to antenatal classes and the HR co ordinator told me I should try and schedule them so they were at the end of the working day. I am pretty sure that the NHS is not going to reschedule a free, group class with lots of other people, on my behalf!

hippihaz I had morning sickness up on/off until the day of my 20 week scan!
