12-24 weeks pregnant (part 3)

Congrats on the pram shopping daisie. I don't think people realise how insecure pregnancy can make us feel about our bodies! My mum told me to 'shift my big bum' the other day in the kitchen. I could've cried! Only really had one 'nice' bump comment (other than oh who doesn't really count) and that was off my grandma who hasn't seen me since 13 weeks- she said I was really 'blooming'.
I've been having weird indigestion the past few days. I've had it a couple of times pre-pregnancy and it was really burny. This is totally different- it's a weird cold, minty type feeling all up my oesophagus. It's weird, not painful. Just uncomfortable. I found this page useful http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/indigestion-heartburn-pregnant.aspx as it tells you what you can take (pretty much all heartburn stuff is ok), ranitidine has been helping me out.
Spent 6 hours today doing odd jobs- unblocking the kitchen sink and external drain, 4 hours scrubbing the car. Back in bits now though. Blo.ody nesting!0 -
Hi everyone! Back in Scotland for the next 27 hours the we 're off again. Have managed a whole 3 hours sleep as we didn't get to mums til 5am and by the time we got washing on, I soaked my feet in cold water (just off to do it again) and then to bed it was 6am. And for some reason hubby had an alarm set!!!
It's going to be a fast day, pick up pram from my friend, 4 hours drive, then unpacking sorting and repacking while trying to get two boys organised to go to grandparents for a week. I'll be glad when I'm back on a plane tomorrow!!!!!
On the subject of bodies, I bent over the other day and hubby told me to move as he thought there had been an eclipse! He got a slap for that! Yip I know I'm massive but no need to go on about it!!!
Have been reading and dashing for the last week so sorry I've not been about to help for all those needing it, hugstl those that need them, amiles to those that don't, and for all those joining me with the feet and ankles....good luck, and the shoulder pain, get doc to refer you for physio as I was tod it was ligaments stretching and they can't give u anything. Hi all
Does anyone know the actual legalities of receiving maternity pay (not leave) for contractor/agency staff? I've googled quite a few websites and am finding conflicting info. Would be great to actually find the legislation and also a calc to work out exactly what I would be due.
I asked my agency and they were pretty clueless and the Branch Manager said she didn't know and 'there's good websites I'm' sure out there' ... so really need to know what I'm asking from them as very worried they'll get figures etc. wrong.. (in Scotland if that makes a difference and have been in same role now for just over a year)
Many thanks.
Oh and is ok to join? I've been sort of holding off (tried 6 years, myriad of specialists, tests, etc.. etc.. told not without huge intervention, we were a few weeks from finally receiving first set of medication ... bang, it happened!). Some days struggling to get my head around it (as were the specialist doctors!). I guess I had resigned myself to the fact it wasn't going to happen. Due 16th Nov although they keep changing the dates...0 -
Welcome view.
No idea about contractors least u will get is maternity allowance as that's what ni is paid for. Maternity pay is worked out on earnings from wk 15-25 of pregnancy so for first 6wks u get 90% of full pay so say u earnt an average of £200/wk u would get £180/wk for 6wks after that it's stat maternity pay right up til 9mths n then zilch.
Maybe tax office would be good place to ring beware will be on hold least 30min after automated voice crap before speaking to someone so use work phone n time as its their fault u have to ring.0 -

Thanks freebiequennie. I'll phone HRMC tomorrow.0 -
we had thunderstorms up here in Bolton on Tuesday night. It's the first time in 8 years that a thunderstorm here has even come close to a West Australia storm and it made me homesick lol. It's amazing what will set me off at the moment.
Miss those storms! I loved the rainy days growing up and think the heat of the summers made me love the storms and lightning even more. Starting to make me homesick also !0 -

THanks for the welcome and link... what is it with waking up early! I can't seem to sleep beyond 5am these days... so by the time 8am rolls around and it's time to leave for work I'm shattered before I even start...0 -
Wow this board definitely moves fast!
Mrs C hope you had a lovely holiday, is it another holiday you are off on or work related?
SewIt - yay for the scan. Had you hoped to find out the babies sex or were you staying team yellow anyway?
Alioops - hope you can get some advice or offer of physio for your shoulder. Hope the scan goes well
Freebie - hope you are feeling better today
Daisie - is it the same midwife you see each time or is it different? Can you make appointments at a different time to avoid any that are rude? Glad at least you heard the heartbeat
Lilmiss - what a cute bump! I cant wait until I am properly showing and not just bloated
Timeflies - how annoying about the buyer pulling out. Hope you get some more interest soon
Wendz - glad you had a lovely holiday
Runmichellerun - are you just looking to buy or do you have a house to sell too? Have you listed what you are looking for with agents so they can contact you if anything new comes on the market?
Hugs Mr Knight for not feeling well
Welcome view
Sorry to anyone I have missed, and hope all the ladies feeling poorly are feeling better today
Thanks for the suggestions about maternity wear, went shopping yesterday but came home empty handedMost of the stores near me didn't have any maternity section and those that did only had trousers in standard length which drag the floor on me!
I also am not a skinny jeans person, I am too dumpy anyway to wear them so doubt pregnancy is going to suddenly make them look better. Had a sneaky look in mothercare, though again the one in town doesn't have that much stock so already trying to convince OH to go further afield. Daisiegg your mothercare must be a lot larger!!0 -

No I see a different one each time and can't make an appointment with a specific midwife, it is just during a clinic which is on for a couple of hours on a Friday afternoon. I don't even know what any of them are called as they don't bother to introduce themselves and don't seem to wear badges. Think I just have to put up with it.
I have not bought any maternity clothes in person....it all seems to need to be online I am afraid!0
