Oh lordy! Think I will return to read that email in the morning...thank you!

Mrs C, that makes sense. We will probably christen baby girl in the church where we got married (and my parents got married, and my siblings and I were all christened) and have already thought it would be nice to have the receptiony bit where we had our wedding reception. All depends how expensive it is of course, if too much it will be at home! Chilli and curry sounds great, can't see why anyone would not like that!

Phew so much to read in two hours!

I'm hoping for an invite to my mums this Xmas, as step kids will be at their mums this year. If not it will be me, oh and baby. Just us which will be lovely. I'm buying baby a jumparoo for Xmas. Might not be able to use it until jan/feb but I can't have no presents :)

I've got my friends dog for the weekend so my puppy and the dog have worn me out, I'm off to bed now.

I'll read that huge list in the morning, looks good!

    Nighty night all xx

I haven't even looked at Amazon for baby stuff, what sorts of things do they have on there and where do you look?

Wow, a very comprehensive list! I'd suggest getting the huge cotton wool rolls from Boots though (sometimes on 3 for 2), as they last much longer than the cotton wool balls.

Things from that which we never used - monitor, cot changer (though have a changing table downstairs), top and tail bowl, baby bath support, car blinds / mirror, bottle brush (sponge scourers fit inside), baby scissors, nursing cushion (used pillows). Still haven't got the in ear thermometer - will get round to it at some point!

Also the Boots changing bag is looking a bit worse for wear now, but still used daily! We haven't needed to buy another.

Maternity bras - everyone advises to get measured just before birth. I didn't, luckily, just approximated a size and bought some cheap bras off ebay. I think my under bust measurement shrank by a couple of inches after giving birth, so anything measured beforehand wouldn't have fitted me.

I'd suggest taking a LOT more food in with you. I did have to transfer into hospital after birth last time around and they didn't feed me anything other than a couple of slices of toast until the following day, and DH ate most of the food we'd put in the hospital bag!

Oh, and as our cars date from the 1960s we don't do modern car seat bases, ;) Our travel system's basic car seat worked fine with a seatbelt, and we'll be using it again for number 2.

The other thing we found useful at first was just a cloth apron to wear during nappy changes. DS could send a jet of liquid poo horizontally for over 3 feet (that's the distance to the bathroom wall) during a nappy change. Saved a lot of changes of clothing!

It is a fair list to read through. Most of huge time I'm just throwing a couple of extra bits in with the weekly shop and some of the things I'm just looking at giving it 'really'? Oh Ives. Lot to learn! Lol. You'd think with all the nieces and nephews I'd know a fair bit but everything I did know I seem to have forgotten and their mothers aren't exactly forthcoming with any help as they're pathetic and barely speaking to me! If you're not living in their pockets and doing everything their way you're not worth speaking to! Kids themselves!!!

Funnily enough I was joking with my sister about this earlier as she was saying she'd get me some medical gloves for nappy changes and maybe I should think about an apron...I said I fancy a full body suit, maybe like a beekeeper's suit! :D
  • I was thinking about having a naming ceremony. Both oh and I were brought up catholic. He still believes in god but doesn't go to church. I am resolutely an atheist. We didn't have a church wedding- i didn't want to make a mockery of other peoples beliefs or my vows by lying in a church! I've offered oh that he can have baby christened but i don't wish to participate in the ceremony- i've been a godparent before and found swearing off satan vaguely ridiculous and felt like I was unintentionally taking the p. He's still wavering about it but is leaning towards no. As far as I can see (cynically) the only benefit to having baby christened would be in order to get them into a good catholic school by my house which doesn't outweigh the cons in my head. :/

I'd like a ceremony to introduce the baby to family at our house with a humanist celebrant but not sure how it'd go down with oh's practising catholic family or my very northern and blunt family... Is anyone considering a non religious naming ceremony? I hope I haven't offended anyone, these are just my beliefs!
