Hubby is absolutely convinced ours is a girl, to the extent that he refuses to even consider potential boys names as it would be a waste of time.
this is why we'd like to be able to find out at our scan, so there's 20 weeks for hubby to get his head around it being a boy if necessary.0 -
I just put my husband on a major guilt trip for buying a bottle of merlot (my favourite tipple) when I'm not drinking at all :rotfl: I couldn't resist watching him squirm around and try to placate me. It wasn't until he looked up and saw me smirking at him that he realised I was winding him up0

Haha daisi! I am so missing drinking. On top of my pregnancy I had months and months of low alcohol intake due to TTC so cannot wait to have a few good old fashioned cocktails ASAP! I'm hoping (don't want to research yet in case it's not the case) that expressing from time to time might help me achieve this!!
I always wanted boys but since my niece came along I just love her to bits and think having a girl would also be lovely. But I find the idea of bringing up a girl more intimidating - school can be horrible for girls and I don't want to pass on all my female neurosis! But either way I'll be over the moon and cannot wait to find out now!0 -
As you know, I'm keeping our 'colour' under wraps for the moment, but I suspected it is what it is. IYKWIM.
I'm really pleased, but I think my Mum will be disappointed as we have a few already in the family! My mum is a great one for inappropriate comments, so I might get my sister to 'leak' it first so she says the correct thing. Which is, of course, 'That's fantastic! Perfect!'. Otherwise I know I would get 'oh... that's ok I guess. Would have been nice to have the other though'.
Mum's... bless 'em.0 -
Daisy, yes I think you can take a pram in a London black cab - but that doesn't help my side of the argument!! (So we won't mention it again.
)
It would be easier not to have to take the whole thing in I think - just the [STRIKE]car seat[/STRIKE] baby carrier.0 -

Oops. Consider it forgotten!
Also, to help your argument, when my sister in law came for our wedding, she needed to get a cab from the station (we are not far from London so they are actually London cabs here too) and it took her about 6 tries before she would find one that would let her and her baby in. So,..that is definitely NOT what you want when leaving the hospital after giving birth! You can use that one0 -

At least your husband had the decency to squirm! Mine is blatantly drinking in front of me with no guilt whatsoever. Like yours, this week he has been on my absolute favourite (Californian Cabernet Sauvignon) and not a squirm in sight. He is really annoying me actually. I can happily live without beer, cider, spirits, but wine....oh how I miss wine
What is everyone's views on drinking btw? Not sure if we have had this discussion recently. I have had tiny sips here and there since 14 weeks but never as much as even a quarter of a glass. I would absolutely adore half a glass of wine though. Everything sensible I have read (mainly the Emily Oster book!) seems to suggest a small amount is absolutely fine. But still, I think I would feel guilty. When I first had the bleed one of the things I said was 'maybe it is because I had sips of wine on holiday!' Obviously it wasn't anything to do with that(!) but that was the way my irrational panicked mind worked.0 -
Daisi and wtdn- I don't really drink that much (the occassional class of wine with a meal, I go out 'drinking' maybe once or twice a year- christmas parties or family events but then I do get somewhat drunk...) but I don't intend BF to stop me from drinking. It's definitely not selfish though daisi- you make your choices on what's best for you and you don't have to justify them or apologise for them.
In our area wtdn there's 'bambi' classes. The woman I was speaking to at daisy birthing the other night (bambi coach) said she has a glass of wine every night- when I knew what she did it was the first question I asked despite not being a drinker!. Obviously if your intentions are to get rolling drunk every day then it'd be different but this is a handy link when I was worrying about BF, drinking and Christmas- no traditional baileys while making the dinner would be the pits! http://evidencebasedmommy.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/whats-on-tap-mom.html
Also wtdn when I was talking to M at the Hewitt after freaking out that being a mum would make me somehow lose who I am she made me laugh by regalling me of her favourite new mummy memory- drinking cans of cider in blundellsands park with her nct class whilst BF. She never fails to settle me!
I have referred to baby as 'he' all along, mainly out of history degree habit I think. OH thinks it's a girl, I think boy. At least one of us will be right!I would like to have a boy first as I always wanted an older brother and I also dread the buying of pink girly toys, clothes and beauty stuff if it's a girl as I'm really not into that and I am surrounded by 'girly' women who all think I'm weird for not enjoying shopping, make-up etc... Regardless, whatever baby is I know so far he's happy, healthy and doing well in there so that's all I really care about- arguing over pink tutus with my mum can wait!
all of the things we've bought secondhand so far are animal themed and brightly coloured so it'll do for either.

Daisi, i've had a few glasses of wine since week 12, I had a small ameretto and cranberry cocktail at home made by my bro so it wasn't a full measure of spirits and last week I sat in the sun and had a whole pint of lager shandy. It was delicious.
I think it's a really personal decision though. I was reassured by Oster and decided that I would drink as I normally do (as mentioned before I'm not a big drinker). I wouldn't be comfortable in getting tipsy/ drunk (and I am a lightweight) but I don't feel that an occassional glass of wine/ shandy will do harm.

I really thought you couldn't drink anything when breastfeeding! Off to read your link...0
