I was a drinker, although I've cut down a lot over the last few years. I thought I would miss it much more than I have - I've not really been in the mood recently. All this talk of a nice rich merlot is making my mouth water though...

We went to Bruge a few weeks ago and I had half a glass of Cava (as it came with the room) and one fruit beer. I'll probably drink with BF'ing though. My friend used to have a drink as soon as she finished so it would be mainly gone by the time the next feed came around.

I've never been a drinker as I don't enjoy the taste. I have maybe a couple of drinks a year. Some of my bfing friends said after a big night out they now express and throw it away. Their babies had a bad day after having the milk and screaming babies and a hangover don't mix.

I've just noticed that DH has used half one of those mini bottles of red wine in the dinner. Which means there is a small half glass of red wine looking for a home tonight... I think it is fate.

Oh, cava! This afternoon hubby and I spent a very pleasant hour in the garden on sun loungers. He was having a gin and tonic and he commented 'once upon a time you would already be halfway through a bottle of prosecco by this time on a sunny Sunday'. He's right! :( how I miss it.

I wouldn't say I was a huge drinker (though I could put it away on holiday or special occasions!) - wouldn't usually drink much during the week (maybe the odd single glass of wine with dinner once or twice a week) but really enjoyed very good wine with meals at weekends, and very partial to prosecco on sunny weekends! We are very into wine and have done lots of wine tasting etc. In fact my hen night was at Vinopolis. Oh, that sound of the 'glug glug' as the first glass of wine is poured on a Friday night. It is not the same when pouring it for hubby!

Dear god, I sound like an alcoholic. I'm really not, as evidenced by the fact I am managing to function perfectly well not drinking! Can't say I love it though.
  • Do it! Lol. I fancy a shandy with a bit of lime in it. I'm classy like that... :rotfl: sadly no lager, lemo or lime and no urge to take pajamas off to get some. Was up all night on call so today has been a bit of a bust- with the exception of winning my baby swing auction. Boom.

Shall I have one too? :D hubby has a particularly nice bottle of red open.

I think the main message from Emily Oster, if I remember correctly, is about drinking slowly enough to let your body metabolise the alcohol effectively.
  • Mmmm. Prosecco. Had the most amazing one in venice, both 'plain' and with pulped peaches. It always has me salivating at the memory. Reminds me of our wedding.

I have some non alcoholic beer and while I think it tastes horrid on its own it is actually quite nice in a shandy.

That reminds me, when we were on holiday I instructed a batman to make me a shandy with a quarter of a glass of lager and three quarters lemonade (which I then only drank half of anyway) - he was looking at me like I was utterly mental! :rotfl:

Prosecco, prosecco, prosecco! I adore it.

    Stupid baby.

When I say I was a drinker, I don't mean I was an alcoholic! Basically the same as you Daisy - the odd big night, lovely wines with dinner, and a welcome glass of wine some evenings. And of course Rose or a Corona beer in the sunshine.

We used to a mixed case of wine delivered every 2 months or so, but I've had to stop that. :( DH likes an endless variety of fruity ciders, which I don't like so much so at least I don't have to feel jealous.
