Most employers liability insurance won't let them have people who are medically signed off in the building.

I hate to be the voice of dissent again but this is a myth!

A fit note is just a recommendation and it's up the employee/employer to decide if they're ok to work - nothing to do with insurance.

I definitely agree though that you could try to cover some of the time with sick leave. You can self-certify for the first 7 days - I'd use this after EC as a procedure involving sedation/GA is likely to leave you needing some time off afterwards. Difficult though as the whole 'elective' element in some company's procedures can make sick leave tricky to arrange.

Isla - Just my opinion, but I would consider very carefully delaying your next cycle until 2015, as your fertility declines with age. Although the drs told me its not like your fertility falls off a cliff when you hit 35, it does start to decline (obvs I don't know how old you are!). Do you feel mentally ready yet, a failed cycle is a total headf**k! Like Tea said, you can self cert for the first 7 days if you need too. You don't need a note from the doc and you could just say you had a bug. I don't normally advocate lying, honestly, but this is important to you and your DH. Just my two pence worth, and obviously only you and your DH can know what is right for you both and what sits comfortably for you. big hugs with whatever you decide xxx

It's probably hard to claim a bug for IVF/ICSI, as the scans every other day in the run-up to EC are pretty hard to cover up...

Sorry PM I have no idea :( hope you get through to them.

I was hoping to take my IVF as unpaid/sick, and flex off appointments or have them at the weekend if I can. Dunno if this is possible!

Right, I'm off on holiday, see all you lovely ladies when I come back.

My manager's been lovely and is happy for me to take all the quick scan appointments as late/early lunch or make up the time. :)

My employer gives 5 days off per 12 month period for fertility leave. As above, hoping to get medically signed off between EC and ET, so I only have to use those 'fertility days' for EC itself, and maybe one or two for post ET before I go back to work (not taking the whole 2WW off - can't!).

At my IVF clinic, if a cycle fails they don't let you start again for six months. If the above plan works, I can eke out the five days I get to last the two cycles I'll do in the next 12 months.

    What a palava! :rotfl:
