Hi, I've been through many of these threads but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking at buying an earlier-model Kenwood Chef and I'm trying to work out the difference between the models. I've been looking at various machines for sale on eBay and I've figured out pretty much how to determine what model a machine is by looking at it. But I still have a few questions.
1 - What's the difference between an A701 and an A701A? Do they look different?
2 - How does the A703C compare to the A701 and A901? Since the A901 takes the new attachments but the A701 does not, what about the A701A and A703C?
3 - What power is the motor on the A701/703/901?
4 - I read that the 701 starts up gently, whereas the 901 has a very fast, powerful startup and so you need the spatter-guard to prevent your mix from hitting the walls! What about the 703C?
5 - The 701 is apparently quieter than the 901 - what about the 703C?
6 - In which model did they introduce the electronic speed control? And is it worth having?
Sorry for so many questions, but I'm trying to work out which one is best to buy. If anyone has any links to a site that answers these questions, that would be great! Thanks....

Thanks for that link. I've had a read through those threads and while there is a lot of useful information in there, I still can't find answers to my questions, especially relating to the 703C - there seems to be very little information about this model anywhere, despite there being quite a few available on eBay!0 -

The A701 is earlier than the A701A - they look the same and take the same attachments except for the ones near the bowl - k-beater, whisk, etc. They tend to have a different way of attaching with a slot rather than a pin.
I believe they introduced the electronic bit in the 80's - I've never been able to notice any difference from the regular chefs.
They are all noisy IMHO, but very worthwhile machines! I would recommend either an A701A or an A901A - both are very sturdily built.
Thanks heaps! I'm in Australia, so that would explain why I'm finding 703C's here but not much reference anywhere else. It sounds like any of the earlier models would be fine. I'm not sure about later models... eg KM201 - I've heard mention about the plastic ones not being as strong/reliable, but I'm not sure how much plastic they have or when they became different!0 -

I have already got an old Kenwood Chef which is sadly one without any add ons and although I’ve used it a lot for pastry, cakes etc and I’m looking to upgrade to one that has add ons like sausage/pasta makers etc. I was wondering if anyone can recommend one that does pretty much everything? I’m (very) happy to go for second hand and am open to suggestions and alternatives.

Hi dronid
What are you going to do with your old Kenwood Chef? Just wondered if you knew that there is quite a market for old Kenwood's...lots of people prefer them to the new-fangled sort. I sold my almost 30 yr old one on ebay for nearly £70  Also, lots of Kenwood attachments for sale on ebay too.0 -
Thanks, as ever, Squeaky. Just what I need!
£70 Mir!! Gosh! Sadly my one is one of those that can't use most attachments so I'm going to be very OS and hand my old one onto a friend who makes cakes a lot and needs one!
Thanks again.
