  • I bought it because it was £170 is Argos and the glass jug attachment was £15 bought at the same time, I posted it on the grabbit - the major was £10 dearer or cheaper at the time, too.

EDIT they've gone back up now, but are still a good price - worth comparing with amazon etc. http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002451&langId=-1&searchTerms=KENWOOD+CHEF

Thanks for info. I ve been thinking about this for a while and normally scan the grabbitt board- dont know how i missed that one. Ah well, now I know what price range to look out for!
After all the helpful comments I think ive narrowed it down to premier or major.
Am I correct in thinking main diff is major has bigger bowl and wattage?

    thanks for sausage info

    Hi

I have a prospero and can honestly say it is pretty useless. It doesn't mix properly, the k beater, hook and whisk don't mix all the mixture - it's as if they are not close enough to the bottom of the bowl. I use it but really wish I had saved up a bit longer and bought a chef. I trusted the brand and it was a mistake.

The food processor attachment works ok but the liquidiser is still in it's wrapping as I've never used it.

Had the mixer about 2 years and keep praying it will blow up so I have an excuse to replace it. I wish I was one of those people who replace things on a whim:rotfl:

    Hi!

If your Kenwood is not mixing properly, you can adjust the beaters so that they reach the bottom - I am not 100% sure how you do it now but is fairly simple - I think there is a nut or screw that you can turn so it reaches the bottom. Best check your instructions as that is what I did with mine. If you don't have them just give Kenwood Customer Services a ring and they will talk you through it.

Or post on here and I will dig mine out for you. Just won't be a quick response as am working tomorrow and probably won't log on here until Monday now.

Just for info, I now have a Kenwood Chef Titanium with liquidiser and food processor. Also have the potato peeler attachment, spice mill jars and mincer. Have just got the ice-cream attachment but not used yet as been too busy! Will do in the next week hopefully :D

Have to say is great! use it for baking, dough (have a panny too tho :p)
Also use blender for soup, smoothies, milkshakes, use the spice mill for spices :rotfl: but also for asian fresh chutneys. Don't use the mincer much these days as just no time but will do in the run up to xmas. Made own sausages too but haven't been able to get skins so not done as much as would like.

Deffo go for the best you can.

  • As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread on selecting a Kenwood :)

Thanks for that I'll dig the book out and have a look.

If you want to make sausages http://www.weschenfelder.co.uk/home is where I go for skins - they sell smallish packs.

That's where I get mine. The quality is excellent and they arrive promptly, but if you;re buying small quantities P&P is

The height of the beaters can be adjusted - check the manual or online - it bugged me for ages til I read on here!

Yes, just lower or raise the nut depending on where you want it to be.

  • After sleeping on it Ive come to the conclusion that its got to be the chef but which one....
Having missed out on the argos offer, Ive concluded:
Kenwood Chef is 179.99 @ Argos (price until 24/12)
    147.00 @Amazon
Kenwood Premier 561 is 224.99 @ Argos (price untill 30/11)
    560 is 201.90 @ Amazon and includes a liquidizer
Kenwood Chef Major 636 is 224.99 @ Argos (until 7/12)
    unavailable at Amazon

    decisions, decisions!
Although you get a liquidizer with the Premier at Amazon, Argos is offering attachements at half price, although food processor isnt one of these! But the slicer/grater would be handy.
At the time Argos is out of stock, but im sure it will be back in stock
And obviously the chef Major would be best value, or is it 25.00 more for a bigger machine and bowl?
    decisions! ahhhhh
  • Kim, in my view the ordinary Chef is plenty big enough for a "normal" family (whatever normal is!). If you're thinking of getting a Major please get somewhere so that you can see if you can manage the bigger bowl, I found it impossible to hold it easily to pour the mixture and to hold and hand mix anything.

If it's just you and the moment and any hypothetical family then a normal Chef will be fine and easier to use. If you're planning to bake commercially or large batches of bread like Jackie a Major might be worthwhile but for normal domestic use I think you'll regret it. I batch cook and I've never found that it hasn't been big enough for me.

(I thought the Premier always came with a glass liquidiser?)

  • Have a look here http://www.electricshopping.com/kenwood-kmc560-chef-premier.html the Premier is cheaper and comes with the glass liquidiser. I didn't buy my Chef here as it came from Costco but I bought my mincer and slicer from here and would recommend them.
