Kenwood Chef - which to buy?

  • I am searching for a food mixer also. One that would replace my electric handmixer cause I have started making alot of soaps which need about an hour of high speed mixing and I am making alot of HM cakes.

I am shocked at the cost of the old 2nd hand mixers on Ebay they sell for easily £50, and then theres £15 delivery on top. Trouble is the cheapest brand new one I have found is £145 and that has no extra attachments like the mincers etc.

They really hold their value, lord knows why
If anyone knows where to get cheap ones please let me know :D
  • They hold their value because they are so well made and last for ever.
I have a kenwood chef i bought from John Lewis 30 years ago - it cost over £60 then, which was a serious amount of money. It came with a blender, "K" beaters and whisk. It gets used fairly often - the blender has had to have the rubber seals replaced. Apart from it looking a bit creamy rather than white now it is as good as the day I bought it. And you can still buy the same one today.

Totally agree with baileysbatttlebus - Kenwood chefs are brilliantly made and just go on and on. I did manage to wear out the motor on my very first one (Heavy bread making daily for years!). I had it repaired, gave it to a friend and then upgraded to the Excel which I've had since 1983 and it's as good as new. Much more reliable than other equipment like WM and DWs!

  • Hi
I have the Chef Titanium Food Mixer and brought it last sempt so has not had a lot of use , I have found the blade of the Glass Liquidiser is bent and its only been used for ice crushing ( yes added water ) to find Kenwood don't have any in stock to replace the blade and have now been waiting 6 weeks , only made a couple of cakes/batter in it but found it leaves mix in the bottom .
I do have the Magimix 5200 Food Processor which is great for chopping when making soup etc, and the best bread maker out today I have had it for 3 years and always in use Panasonic Bread Maker
  • The mother in law just gave me her old Kenwood Chef :T :j .

The other half gave it a clean and oiled the workings last night, so will have a go at making a cake in it this afternoon.

MIL has saved me over £80

Right, I wanna kenwood chef. I have wanted one ever since i can remember, but the price has meant it always gets put off.....

we even had the money put aside from our wedidng presents - but spent it on much needed deposit on new house instead!!!

anyway - which is the best one for me. I have a good sized kitchen, so space isn't too much of an issue. I want one which will do teh usual k-beater mixing, liquidising and be able to take a food processor attachment (to keep my magimix dreams in check!!!)

what do people recommend? is it worth trying ebay - or should I bite the bullet and buy new (my sister has a 1970's version and my mum a 1960's version so I know that if looked after they can last). bit wary of ebay to be honest, but don't feel the need to spend £300 plus on a top of the range new one.

what model do you use and what do you like/dislike about it?

I have the 70's version & most of the 'gadgets' that it takes but have to admit I dont use them lol
They only thing I dont like is the liquidiser sits on top & as I'm a short a*se it can be difficult to pour things in esp hot stuff - ie when I'm making soup.
Other than that I love it
ps - picked it up from a carboot for a fiver - like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KENWOOD-CHEF-TABLETOP-FOOD-MIXER-A701A-TOOLS-VGC_W0QQitemZ150248514872QQihZ005QQcategoryZ133701QQcmdZViewItem

I have this one, which was recommended by Savy Sue, for a novice chef like me, it's perfect, just a pity I'm not :rotfl:
