I have the chef titanium and love it, I don't find it takes up that much space as the attachments for mixing etc sit inside the bowl on the worktop and any extra bigger attachments like the food processor are in the cupboard.
I have seen some people complain about the size of the food processor, but I find its fine for us, mind you I like chopping veg and find it is mostly quicker than getting the processor out.

Its brilliant for mixing dough/cakes/icing/merange etc, so if you are a baker (can you tell i love my baking lol) definately the kenwood. However I would say for anyone who wants the machine more for chopping and grating perhaps a good quality large food processor may be better.

But I love love love my chef and wouldn't be without it.

I recently bought the one above, it does everything you're looking for. I used the MSE shopbot thing to find the lowest prices and then used quidco to look up cashback deals on top of that. Ended up paying £102 or something, these are £160 in my catalog.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared

I've got an older 901 Chef. It and the 701 are pretty much the same size but the attachments don't fit each other, so be careful if you're buying these seperately. The Major was the professional version of the 901 when it first came out so the attachments can be interchanged.

You can get more attachments for a 901 than any other version of the Chef that's ever been made. It has two different grater/shredder attachments, liquidizer, mincer, coffee bean grinder, cream maker, pasta maker, grain mill, baby food liquidizer, bean and peel slicer, sausage maker attachment, potato peeler, dough hook, whisk and K-beater. I think there's more than that but that's all the ones I've ever owned. I do also have four bowls for it...they turn up in charity shops and car boot sales occasionally and it's useful to have extra ones when baking.

The dough hook can handle enough dough to make 2x 1.5 lb loaves at once, so it's powerful. I think I read somewhere thet the 901 had a 1/10th horsepower engine, lol!

The 701 is much the same for capacity but has fewer attachments. It definately has a mincer and at least one grating/shredding attachment though.

I inherited my Chef from a great-aunt and on the day it finally gives up the ghost I'll buy another one off Ebay, I expect! Excellent machine, lives out on my worktop, I use it most days for all sorts of things.

Thanks valk, you have given me loads of useful info. I hadn't realised it was possible to have so many attachments for one machine!! I will certainly remember your tip to watch for bowls at boot fairs etc. I have burnt out my hand mixer trying to make bread dough so the large capacity will be great if I can find a suitable mixer.

zippy, I think it is the weight of the dough I can't manage when kneading. Probably could make smaller quantities, but I am too lazy!!

Thanks for the links to the other pages. I think I was looking in the wrong places on here.

  • I know this question has been probably been asked several times before but Kenwood chef or kenwood prospero?
I want to buy a kenwood mainly for baking and unsure which one.
The chef is slightly more expensive, but you have options to add attachments.
Like I said main/ initial use would be baking, I still live with my parents so do not need to cater for family cooking.
Therefore, I dont know if I would use attachments thus the prospero may suit my needs.
I feel once I got the chef I may be encouraged to buy/use attachments but not an option if I buy Prospero.

So do you use your attachements and which ones?
  • I have a chef and I use the food slicing attachment and the mincer.

Personally, I'd go for future proofing, buy the Chef, don't bother to buy attachments at the moment but as and when you are living independently you won't need to replace the whole thing to buy add on's.

  • I had a chef, but recently bought a major. Mine is mainly for baking, but I have the jug, and will be investing in the ice cream maker as a gift to myself from Santa :D I agree with PLP, future proof it, buy the chef and you can add on as and when you need it.

Oh gosh I've said it so many times, I love my Kenwood Chef

I use the sausage maker which is amazing, makes brilliant sausages.
I use the mincer to mince shoulder of pork for the sausages.

I use the slicer attachment, and love the liquidiser, I make some lovely soups and milk shakes with it.
I've got the pasta maker too which is really cool.

When I bought it I decided that as it was expensive it would have to really earn it's keep so I use it as often as I can. It's never been shut in a cupboard in the dark, all lonely.

  • My name is PenPen and I love my Kenwood Chef :) I bought it 17 years ago when I didn't return to work after maternity leave with my first child. It's been used on a more than weekly basis ever since.

I use the K-beater, whisk, liquidiser, mincer and sausage maker. The only attachment that I have that I don;t use is the dough hook (came in the Chef pack when I bought it). MIL was right when she said I'd not use it :o

Please can you give more details of this. Maybe Santa will get a discount if he buys me one too :rotfl:
